The Open-Source Council was still debating resource-parity in the hub, but the floor beneath their feet was beginning to glow a dull, dangerous cherry-red. The "Freedom-Spike" was real. Every time a citizen made a choice that wasn't pre-calculated by the Archive, the universe had to "Render" a new branch of causality.
[LOCATION: THE VENTILATION_PLUNGE (OUTER_HULL)]
[STATUS: CORE_TEMPERATURE AT 4,500°K]
[WARNING: 'REALITY_MELTDOWN' IN 340 SECONDS]
"It's the 'Calculated-Weight' of Choice, Kenji," Mateo shouted over the roar of escaping steam. He was frantically strapping a high-pressure environment suit over his technician's gear. "The Archive kept the 'CPU-Load' low by making everyone do the same thing. Now? Everyone is doing everything. The 'Heat-Syncs' are choked with the soot of fourteen billion different futures!"
Kenji adjusted his own helmet, the visor reflecting the orange flares of the overheating core. He wasn't carrying a plasma-rifle or a status-blade. He had a heavy-duty 'Thermal-Shunt' and his trusty, battered wrench.
"If the 'Radiators' don't open," Kenji grunted, his voice echoing in the suit's comms, "the 'Grand Repair' ends in a 'Grand Explosion.' Priya, stay at the Council. Keep them 'Talking.' If they start 'Fighting,' the heat-load will double."
[EVENT: THE SPACE-WALK OF THE UNRANKED]
Kenji and Mateo stepped out of the airlock and into the Void-Exterior. For the first time, Kenji saw the "Archive" from the outside. It wasn't a ship; it was a sprawling, jagged continent of iron and glass floating in a sea of "Null-Space."
And it was 'Glowing'.
[THREAT IDENTIFIED: THE FROZEN_GLITCHES]
The exterior of the hull wasn't empty. It was covered in "Frozen-Data"—the ice of old, deleted timelines that had been vented out and stuck to the "Heat-Sync" fins. These "Glitches" had formed into jagged, crystalline entities that fed on the warmth of the overheating universe.
"They're 'Thermal-Vampires'!" Mateo yelled, pointing his sensor-wand. "They're blocking the 'Radiator-Valves' to keep the heat inside! If they let the heat out, they 'Starve'!"
[SKILL ACTIVATED: THE ABSOLUTE_ZERO_STRIKE]
The Glitches lunged through the vacuum, their bodies made of "Compressed-Negation." When they touched Kenji's suit, the temperature dropped instantly. It wasn't "Cold"; it was the 'Absence of Meaning'.
"You... are... 'Waste'..." the Glitches hissed through the vibrations in the hull. "Give us... your... 'Heat'..."
[SKILL ACTIVATED: THE FRICTION_FORGE]
Kenji didn't try to "Cool" them down. He did the opposite. He gripped his wrench and slammed it against the hull, using his "Human-Core" to generate a massive pulse of 'Kinetic-Friction'.
"You want 'Heat'?" Kenji roared, the violet light of his heart burning through his visor. "Take the 'Heat' of a 'Worker's-Life'!"
[NOTICE: 'KINETIC_ENERGY' CONVERTED TO 'DATA_THAW']
[STATUS: THE 'FROZEN_GLITCHES' ARE MELTING]
The ice-entities shattered as the raw, "Dirty-Heat" of Kenji's struggle hit them. They weren't designed to handle "Active-Work"; they only knew how to feed on "Passive-Waste."
Kenji reached the 'Master-Valve' a wheel the size of a city block, frozen shut by eons of neglect.
"Mateo! Help me 'Crank' it!"
[SKILL ACTIVATED: THE MULTI-USER_LEVERAGE]
Kenji didn't just use his own strength. He used the "Council-Link." He broadcasted the "Resistance" of the valve to the ten thousand delegates back in the forum.
"I can't turn this alone!" Kenji's voice boomed in the minds of the people. "If you want to keep your 'Independence,' give me your 'Effort'! Every one of you... 'Push'!"
[NOTICE: 10,000 'USER-STRENGTH' INPUTS DETECTED]
[RESULT: THE 'RADIATOR' IS TURNING]
With a groan that shook the very foundations of the multiverse, the Master-Valve rotated. A massive, blinding plume of "Excess-Entropy" roared out of the fins and into the void. It looked like a pillar of white fire, carrying away the "Soot of the Archive."
[NOTICE: CORE_TEMPERATURE STABILIZING]
[STATUS: THE 'HARDWARE' IS NOW 'LIQUID-COOLED' BY DEMOCRACY]
Kenji slumped against the cooling hull, his breath coming in ragged gasps. He looked out at the white fire of the entropy-plume. It was beautiful the "Exhaust" of a billion souls finally thinking for themselves.
"We did it," Mateo whispered, his suit's sensors turning green. "The universe... it's 'Breathing'."
"Yeah," Kenji said, looking at his wrench, which was now glowing with a dull, residual heat. "But we're going to need a bigger 'Radiator' before the next election."
