Eunji Jeong is a proud sorceress and sixth year student of Kamigami Academy. She had a lot of things that people are envied of; her beauty, prowess and skills. In Ethereal, Eunji is qualified to be a part of society's official sorceresses the moment she graduated from Kamigami Academy.
There are only a few students who are able to go toe to toe against her or an individual who is able to subdue her. It was a stressful pressure for the strawberry blonde to be in the spotlight yet her determination and hard work pushed those thoughts away as it managed to make her the person that she is today.
However, in this moment, she had felt something terrifying but it wasn't something negative as it was something positive. The terrifying feeling of someone who'll be able to catch up to her.
"This pressure… Is he catching up?" Eunji thought to herself before blocking his glacier with her own. She could see the difference of the glacier as hers were more durable and stronger due to the latter having his own being demolished almost instantly.
The two were just sending each other a barrage of glaciers although Rei's version was weaker than hers which gave the sorceress the advantage to overwhelm him if it weren't for his own combat intellect and skill to continue on.
"She's gotta be at least on Sylvie's level or a level higher than her." Rei uttered before he tried to catch his breath, the heavy toll of copying Eunji's prowess weighing down on him.
He had no choice but to continue on as he tried to catch the sorceress off guard by surrounding her with pillars of glaciers which were ultimately destroyed instantly with a singular pillar of her own. "Yup… she's out of my league even if I did manage to copy a prowess that doesn't take a heavy toll on me…" Rei uttered although he wasn't of options, his mind already planning a crazy execution.
"If I'm able to last long to this extent… Then I have at least a chance to win!" Rei smiled before channeling every ounce of his spiritual energy, using everything he could offer to go for one last attack.
......…
The students who were watching immediately felt a powerful aura from Rei which was surprising for them since the only people they knew who could do the same were Eunji, Haru and a number of seniors in the academy.
"Hey! Hey! Aren't they going a bit too far?!" One of them asked as Eunji was doing the same, matching his powerful aura by channeling her own spiritual energy into her next attack.
The instructors were almost on the edge of losing their mind since none of them were powerful enough to break the spar off. "Shxt! They'll destroy each other along with us!" The PE teacher stated as they were chanting, summoning what seemed to be a barrier as it encased the ring.
"Would this be enough?" One of them asked which was totally rhetorical to be a question with the amount of powerful aura that the two on the ring had emitted.
The students were almost trying to run away when Rei and Eunji had made their move. "Hold onto your dear lives!!!" One of them shouted as they screamed and braced each other or on whatever they could grab.
A bright light almost covered the ring before the barrier broke while the impact had sent them all stumbling on their feet. It was powerful enough to make the building shake for a bit before stabilising afterwards.
"Who won?"
The single question of the students had put everyone on a chokehold as they had gathered every ounce of strength they had left to see who was the victor of the spar. They could see a pile of remnants to Rei's glacier while Eunji had her pointed at the direction where they assumed the latter was standing before.
"She won… as usual…" Erika muttered before her eyes widened when one of the rubbles was shaking as Rei stood up with a slight injury on his head.
"HE SURVIVED?!" Half of the people shouted while Sylvie sighed heavily, glad to see Rei not maintaining any serious injuries.
She was glad that the latter survived since the incident from Sir Ellis Kadoorie High School had still traumatized her. "You damn bastard… I'll make sure you get an earful lecture from me!" Sylvie gritted her teeth as she was prepared to punch Rei later.
......…
Eunji was confused since she was breathing heavily especially when she only had done this when training extremely hard or facing an opponent that was out of her league. "Am I? Glad? To be standing against him?" She questioned herself, totally unbelievable to know that Rei was able to put her in a state like this.
"He's a 7.5 in Hong Kong but after I assessed the assessment for today…" Eunji muttered before comparing him to her current level.
She had a different level in Ethereal but if gauged in Hong Kong leveling system then she would be instantly a 9.1. In Ethereal, her current level is 8.0 while Rei should be in 6.5 and Sylvie at 7.5. "Unbelievable… No wonder why the headmaster wanted Rei to be in the academy…" she thought to herself before walking to Rei as she patted him on the shoulder.
"Good job. You lasted at least 32 minutes." Eunji said out loud before leaving the ring while Rei felt himself succumbing to his exhaustion as he sat down.
Most of the crowd were amazed since Rei was the only one who was able to stand against Eunji without going unconscious or being defeated in such a humiliating and humble state. The first time in the academy to see another gifted one that would be a part of their institution.
......…
Sylvie was the first person to go onto the ring before snacking Rei's head with such power before cheering him on for his victory. "You dumbass! I thought you're trying to get yourself killed again but I'm glad that you survived!" She exclaimed while helping Rei to be escorted to the staff that were prepared to check for his injuries or to supervise him while getting the results of his overall assessment.
Rei sighed as he drank what seemed to be a recovery potion after one of the staff had offered him the test tube. "Man… This tastes like the one I used to have at Sir Ellis High School…" he thought to himself, recalling the memories when he got hurt a lot during the time of his act as a blank.
"Good memories…" he chuckled to himself softly, reminiscing about the nurse getting used to his daily antics and schedule. "It's a shame that I couldn't say my goodbyes during the short break when I had my therapy…"
His face softened before closing his eyes and staring up at the sky while the building was about to revert back to the original state. A quick look of the above before being covered as Rei sighed in relief as he was able to leave after a brief assessment with the staff.
"I guess this is my new life…" he muttered to himself, standing next to Sylvie as the two head off to their next class.
Rei was looking forward to whatever he was about to learn and witness in Kamigami Academy as the bad memories of his life started to be replaced with ones that were worth living for.
His mind with a clear goal.
To push himself and live life to the fullest without worrying of his execution regarding being the vessel of the ancient being that resided within him.
"Thank you. Sylvie." Rei muttered softly, appreciating the latter's presence for keeping him company during his darkest hour and emotional moments. "This time. It's my turn to do the same."
