Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: Depraved

Not fully understanding how to respond to this, they decided to meet with each other's respective heroes from the other races.

The meeting didn't go well at first. They were wary and didn't lower their weapons.

After they had some explanation and felt the same way, they finally sat down and talked.

"Is that race really that important?" Asked a human man who appeared to be in his thirties.

"Yes, it is important. But what's the difference between us here and those out there?" The man continued.

The other five people listened intently.

"The only differences we have are characteristics." Said an elf woman.

"And although our food is different, we are all living creatures living in the same world." Said a vampire man.

"Yes, that's true. Actually, they've only been exaggerating it all this time." Said a beastman man.

"We don't know each other." Said a demon man.

"Yes, that's true." A dwarf man nodded in agreement.

"But if everyone thought like this, war would never happen, right?" Said the dwarf man.

"Yes, that's true. And even if we tried to explain it to them, they wouldn't understand." Said the demon man with blackish-purple eyes.

The human man with blond hair and blue eyes pondered for a moment.

"Yes, and even if it came from a noble family, they wouldn't listen." He said.

Sometimes heroes could also be from royalty, and perhaps even the king himself.

But because they also received blessings from the gods, their duties became even more difficult.

"If this continues, war will always happen." Said the elf woman with sparkling yellow eyes like diamonds.

"And those half-bloods... how should I put it... don't they seem like the embodiment of peace?" Said the elf woman.

"Yes, you're right, but the treatment they receive is truly horrific. I'd like to hear your thoughts on protecting them." Said the human man.

"Protecting..." everyone muttered almost simultaneously.

"I have a thought." The blond human man raised his hand and spoke.

Everyone watched and listened.

"I've always thought this so-called hero's job is being misguided. We shouldn't go out into the battlefield and slaughter people."

"We exist to protect. Peace can be achieved without bloodshed."

"And that's why I say this..."

"Heroes must disappear from their sight."

Everyone who heard this was a little surprised.

"What do you mean by disappearing?"

"Disappearing doesn't mean vanishing or running away. By disappearing, I mean we all hide in the shadows of society."

"We'll keep watch, but we won't reveal our true identities."

"And that way, we can also protect the half-bloods without anyone having to worry about our race."

Everyone pondered for a moment.

"Yes, I think that's quite a good thing. Honestly, we prefer smithing and crafting to fighting." The dwarf man responded.

"So, instead of heroes standing on the front lines, heroes protect from the rear. That's not bad." The beastman man said.

"I think that's quite good, too." The vampire man and the elf woman nodded in agreement.

"But this will only apply to our generation. What about the new heroes who have been chosen?" The demon man raised his hand and spoke.

They all fell silent for a moment.

"Well, we can start thinking about it slowly." The human man said.

"So with the heroes gone, they'll think twice before starting a war."

"And that might start to open their minds."

The six heroes sitting in a circle nodded in agreement and reached a common understanding.

And so time passed.

As time went by, changes slowly became apparent. With the heroes gone, they hesitated to start a war.

But the peace was only temporary.

While wars on the battlefield were no longer happening, there were other things they were doing besides war.

The disappearance of the heroes seemed to provide an opportunity for rampant crime.

If attacks on the front lines couldn't be carried out, they would do it behind the lines.

Kidnapping, extortion, slavery, murder, and other things from the shadows.

The heroes couldn't stop them all at once, because after eliminating one, another would always appear.

Even if they could just slaughter the criminals, what difference would that make on the battlefield?

They would return to being slaughter machines.

But that was the only way to cleanse themselves of their heinous deeds.

Even so, seeing these heinous acts, they couldn't just stand by.

They saw children sold into slavery and treated cruelly, the poor squeezed dry by taxes, innocent commoners thrown into prison, and even mass murder.

Were people really that rotten all along?

Even people stole from and killed each other.

There was no justice, no truth.

Regardless of race.

The cries of suffering went unheard.

Was it really like that all along?

Noble families and even the royal family also had their own evils to hide.

So, what was the point of what we were doing?

Trapped in a complex state of mind, something no one had ever expected happened.

The figures of heroes who should have shone brightly were now shrouded in a black fog of darkness.

Their once-passionate eyes were now dark and filled with anger.

They were angry, they hated, they didn't understand.

There was only one thing on their minds now.

If they could no longer protect, then they would now judge.

The light of the heroes had been corrupted by darkness.

Seeing nobles oppressing the common people to the point of executing them, citizens pitting each other against each other, killing each other for a few gold coins, children forced to work hard and even starving to death.

A sight more disgusting than a battlefield.

The hero of the human race, the second prince of the Luxilion kingdom, Lucian de Luxilion.

The prince who decided to withdraw from the struggle for the throne and chose to live as an adventurer.

Outside the magnificent royal building, the expression on his face said what the hell is this? This is too much.

The sight before his eyes was a poor man who accidentally nudged a young nobleman.

Even though the poor man had sincerely apologized, the young master kicked him and even trampled on his body. The young master even spat at him and insulted him by calling him a filthy creature.

Lucian's fists clenched with anger.

Not only that, in the same place, a little distance behind the young master, he saw several people chained in a row and even dragged if they were no longer able to walk.

Their bodies were covered in wounds and very weak. Not only adults, children were there too.

All of them who were chained were probably going to be enslaved and forced to work until they died.

Lucian's blue eyes that looked from behind the hood of the coat he was wearing were filled with anger.

Was this what he had been protecting all this time?

Seeing such depraved human nature made him so angry and disappointed.

No, actually he had known for a long time that even fellow race would not be able to avoid cruel acts.

Lucian was not only angry with them, but he was also angry and ashamed of himself.

He had been ignoring it all this time.

Lucian stepped forward and removed the hood of the cloak that covered him.

Unable to bear it any longer, Lucian's blue eyes slowly turned red.

His seemingly friendly face was now filled with anger.

He drew the sword sheathed at his waist, quickly slashing at the head of the young nobleman before him.

Everyone, including the young master's guards, was shocked to see him. Before they could fight back, Lucian's sword spilled blood again.

Lucian walked over to the man dragging the people in chains and immediately slashed him too.

Red blood had coated his sword and even turned it as black as a deep abyss.

Lucian continued walking and slashing at the slave traders he saw.

He even approached the dilapidated residences of the nobles, finishing them off and destroying their luxurious mansions.

The power of the God that always radiated light had now turned into a dark black mist.

He continuously slashed what he considered evil before him.

Lucian screamed in anger.

A hero who was supposed to protect humanity was now destroying a human kingdom.

The human hero's blonde hair had now turned jet black.

Black veins also appeared on his body and face.

The hero has fallen.

He became a 'Black knight'.
