Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Question

Gods. Mysterious existences with indescribable power. They are the highest beings in the world. Beings with absolute power that can easily destroy the world. But even so, they cannot do so carelessly. Even gods have their own rules.

Humans. Weak creatures filled with desires. Unlike other races with unique characteristics, humans appear truly ordinary. But even so, human intelligence and abilities are not to be underestimated. Although considered weak, with hard work and adaptability, they can learn many things. Such as becoming knights with advanced weaponry skills, mages with various elements and spells, building public facilities, developing food technology, and so on.

Half-humans (beastmen). Their appearance is actually quite similar to humans, the only difference being the appearance of some of their body parts. For example, they have rabbit-like ears, some have cat-like tails, their hands have tiger-like claws, their bodies are as large as bears, and so on.

Elves. Their appearance is also quite similar to humans, what distinguishes them is their long pointed earlobes, and they are said to have unrealistically beautiful faces. They also have long lives. Also, unlike humans who need to train to use magic, elves have an instinct for magic from birth. Their resonance with nature is also high. In other words, they are naturally talented in magic.

Dwarves. Their appearance is also quite similar to humans, only their height does not reach that of an adult human. They are not very skilled in combat. But even so, their skill in forging weapons and other equipment is undeniable. In other words, they were born to forge.

Vampires. They are a unique group. Their appearance is no different from humans, except their skin is very white and pale. Their bodies cannot be exposed to direct sunlight. As soon as sunlight touches their skin, they will burn and turn to ash. But even so, vampires are nicknamed immortal beings. Although it is not true immortality. They drink blood and raw meat as their food. Although it sounds disgusting, their manners are not inferior to the nobility of human kingdoms.

The demon race. The name alone sounds like something evil. They live side by side with dark energy that can corrupt one's sanity. But even so, they still retain their common sense.

With such differences in characteristics and abilities, is it possible to win a battle?

Like humans and beastmen, although they have almost the same combat skills, the physical strength, stamina, and other innate characteristics of beastmen are superior to humans.

Elves and vampires, although their magical powers are almost equal, how can vampires survive in the sun?

Doesn't their comparison seem overlapping?

Well, that is a problem they must find a solution for themselves.

But the problem is not that.

Heroes.

A person with powers blessed directly by the gods. They are blessed when they enter the church at the age of five.

That blessing is woven into their souls, down to their very last drop of blood.

Not everyone can receive it.

In each race, there might only be one or two who receive it.

A power that ranks above all others. No matter what family they come from, they are sometimes called the chosen children of the gods.

They are respected and treated with the respect of royalty.

But what exactly is a hero's duty?

Heroes are strong figures who protect the weak. They stand on the front lines against ferocious monsters and all the dangers that exist.

Heroes are also the ones who stop the battle that nearly wiped out the population.

But no one knows what those who bear that power bear.

In a long war that takes countless lives, the recipients of the blessing cannot simply stand idly by and watch the destruction.

Each hero from each race will protect their race.

They will fight, no, slaughter all who threaten them.

For thousands of years, from the previous heroes to the new ones.

But as time passed, they began to realize something.

This was not right.

Magic. A miraculous thing that held many mysteries to be solved. While many people can use it, they have their own levels.

The greater one's understanding of magic, the greater their control over it.

A thing unknown to anyone except those blessed with the power to become heroes, 'Memory magic.'

Every new hero who receives the blessing will receive the memories of their predecessors.

These aren't their entire memories, but rather messages they wish to convey to the new heroes, opening them to new perspectives.

Why would they bother doing so?

While the balance between races is still shaky, those who bear the name of hero have a duty to protect their race.

Slaughtering more than one weaker than themselves, their hands holding their weapons begin to tremble.

As they looked back, they saw the people they had protected cheering proudly.

But what lay before them was a pile of corpses cheering in despair.

Whether they were human heroes, beastmen, elves, dwarves, vampires, or demons, they all wondered the same thing.

Was this the right thing to do?

This power existed to protect. They had done the right thing, but something was bothering them.

What was the point of this war, really?

Weren't they just wasting supplies and energy?

Was so much blood shed just for the sake of truth and vindication?

At the end of the war, heroes representing each race would face off against other heroes.

They were both blessed by the gods, though from different gods.

However, experience, skill, and talent would be the deciding factors in determining who would win.

They fought with all their might.

And it was then, when the other hero had fallen, that the uneasy feeling began to resurface.

The hero they had killed had also been a protector of his people.

They too had family, relatives, and friends. No different from anyone else.

They too bore a heavy duty. They had the same duty.

But the fallen heroes had failed their duty. And the victors had fulfilled theirs.

There was no need to pity them.

But was the duty they fulfilled the right thing?

Were their fellow citizens worthy of protection?

Were they without fault?

Even within one's own race, discrimination persists. The strong and powerful will oppress the poor and weak.

That is the law of nature.

So, what is the difference between those of different races?

Dislike, hatred, revenge, distrust, and so on.

So what? That is the basic nature of all people, depending on how you sort it out, it will produce different results.

Even within your own race, it is the same.

But what is there to think about?

It is everyone's problem.

As time goes by, people begin to change. Little by little, people's minds begin to change and open up, though not all.

Some of them even marry other races and have offspring called half-bloods.

This creates a new uproar in society. Many people do not accept this.

They even call these half-bloods 'dirty blood' or 'cursed blood'.

Why is that? What was wrong with that?

These people faced even more horrific discrimination. They ultimately chose to leave and settle far from the kingdom's territory.

Seeing this, the heroes, also known as S-rank adventurers, felt a little confused.

If these mixed-blood descendants were in trouble, how were they supposed to help them?

Half blood of them were of the same race, but the other half were not.

Should they simply be ignored?
