Arthur knew Eugene told him to be careful, but there was no way he could just drive slowly. He even ran through the emergency stairs and wasted no time knocking on the door, still panting from the exercise.
But perhaps he wasn't the only one who was impatient, because the door opened less than five seconds later. Silence fell for three seconds as thousands of emotions were exchanged under shaking eyes, and it ended with Eugene pulling Arthur inside--into the apartment and his arms.
"I'm sorry," Eugene's voice sounded even shakier than when Arthur heard it through the phone--perhaps because he could feel the omega tremble in his arms. "I'm sorry, Art."
"It's okay," Arthur shook his head, hugging the omega back tightly. "It's the system's fault."
Eugene lifted his head, eyes tinged red even though they were dry. "It is, but taking it out on you is my fault."
