"What the fuck was that?!"
Arthur couldn't fathom what had just happened. He was so dumbfounded that he snapped out of his daze too late. He couldn't find Eugene and Hannah in the lobby, and there was no hope for him to find them in the wilderness of the city population.
And he had learned that going to the apartment when Eugene was clearly angry would only exacerbate the situation, so he channeled his flabbergastion to someone else. He didn't even know what he was feeling after all that.
"Why? Why is he angry? Why is he angry at me?" Arthur slammed his fist against the leather sofa's armrest.
He was asleep when the call came, exhausted from a journey the night before. When he took it, he was so distraught that he simply threw on the coat he had worn the night before and drove right away.
It only occurred to him that he received the notice through the academy instead of Eugene when he was walking through the lobby and had no idea where he should go.
