For all his whining, Eugene didn't bring himself to ask Arthur about his grievance over their future, even while they were having calls.
He told himself that such a conversation should only be held face-to-face, but truthfully, he knew he just wanted Arthur to come forward by himself, not by Eugene's insistence. Was it something like a lover's tendency? Eugene felt like he was giving out enough hints already, so he felt annoyed that Arthur didn't send out the same amount of signal.
But, wow...just thinking about it already made Eugene feel ridiculous.
Perhaps he just had too many useless thoughts because he had nothing to do. With Arthur busy and Hannah at school, Eugene was alone during the day, with nothing to do. Perhaps if he had something to occupy his mind with while he was alone, he would be able to see it as nothing more than a silly worry.
That was the spirit he carried with him when he went to the publishing company.
