Arthur unconsciously gripped the plate he was about to serve his daughter, eyes darting toward Eugene in a fluster.
He had, without Eugene's permission, told them about Eugene's family situation. While he had told Eugene about it while apologizing profusely before, and had begged his cousin and grandparents not to bring it up unprompted.
It was clear, however, that they immediately understood what the silent dining table pertained to. Arthur just hoped his grandparents didn't see it as an invitation to ask Eugene about his family.
The one who spoke first, unexpectedly, was Hannah. "Papa always talk to Hannah when we eat, so it's never quiet!" she announced innocently. "But Papa used to tell Hannah not to speak while eating. How weird!"
"Because Hannah didn't know she shouldn't speak while chewing," Eugene said while wiping the corner of the girl's mouth. "But you know now, right?"
"Oh!"
"We also do that," Samantha chimed in beside Hannah. "Isn't it more fun?"
