Chapter 4 - Secrets Beneath the Chi

The air inside Seiko Ayase's house buzzed faintly with protective energy. The smell of incense and old wood filled the living room, grounding the three battered teens after the chaos outside.

Kial sat cross-legged on the tatami floor, still panting lightly. His knuckles were bruised from the earlier fight, golden energy faintly pulsing under his skin. "That thing…" he muttered, "it wasn't a normal yokai or alien. It felt wrong. Like it knew me."

Momo shot him a quick glance. "Knew you? What's that supposed to mean?"

Before he could answer, Seiko Ayase stepped in, her usual calm smile gone. "It means," she said, setting down a steaming cup of green tea, "that what you fought isn't just invading this world—it's searching for something." She looked straight at Kial. "And that something is you."

Kial's eyes widened. "Me? I've never even seen that thing before."

"Oh, maybe not directly," Seiko said, settling on a cushion. "But your chi… it's not ordinary life energy. It's ancient. It's the same essence used by spirit warriors centuries ago—guardians who once fought yokai when the boundaries between worlds were thin."

Okarun, still vibrating slightly from residual Turbo Granny energy, frowned. "You mean like monks or something?"

"Not quite," Seiko replied. "They were called Chi Sages. Human conduits of energy from both heaven and earth. The hybrid you fought may be a remnant of what they sealed away—a fusion of yokai malice and alien tech."

Momo crossed her arms. "So it's after Kial's power to… what? Recreate that fusion?"

"Or worse," Seiko said softly, eyes sharp. "To stabilize it."

Silence filled the room, broken only by the faint hum of the barrier outside.

Kial clenched his fists, golden sparks lighting his knuckles. "Then I'm not running anymore. If that thing wants me, I'll take it down myself."

Momo sighed. "Typical hothead line."

Okarun smirked. "Yeah, but this time, I'm with him."

Seiko stood, her aura briefly glowing faint blue. "Then you'll need training. That creature won't stop, and if it's truly connected to the ancient Chi Sages, there will be more like it. You three must prepare—for a war that started long before you were born."

Outside, thunder rolled across the night sky. The hybrid's distant roar echoed through the city, faint but full of promise.

Kial looked out the window, golden light flickering in his eyes. "Let it come," he whispered. "Next time, we'll be ready."
