Chapter 2 - New Beginnings

Lin Yue was quickly admitted for her head injury and taken back to be treated. Fu Ping sat with her husband and sons in the waiting area while their daughter/sister was seen. "Captain Mo has decided to be responsible for any loss of honor to Yue-yue. He will visit us another day to discuss the bride price and betrothal gift."

Lin Jinkai spoke to his wife and sons. "Do you know his character father?" Lin Yuqin spoke. He and Yue were closer to each other than the other two. As the oldest sibling, he felt it was his responsibility to protect little Yue. He adored and protected his baby sister. Lin Jinkai knew his son well. Yuqin felt responsible for not being there for his sister. "Captain Mo is our new Brigade Captain. He is taking over in a few days. He is a true soldier and man. Commander Mo raised his only son to be this way. A hero to a fault."

"Will he be true to Yue-yue?"

"His mother Madam Mo taught him to be true to his wife, no matter who she is or where she came from, only one marriage is allowed in the Mo family. That is usually for life." Lin Jinkai looked up as the doctor came over. He stood and addressed the woman. "How is my daughter?" The doctor sighed but smiled to relieve the families tension. "Miss Lin has a mild concussion and her wound needed stitches. Come back in three weeks for them to be removed. If she has any problems before then, come in for us to treat it on time. She will need help washing her hair as the stitches can't get wet. She also has an injury to her spine due to hitting a rock, she will need assistance for a few weeks until it heals." Fu Ping began to sob for the pain her child was in. Lin Jinkai nodded to the doctor in thanks. "Get her a wheel chair and make sure it's a quality model. I'll go pay the bill. Boys, take care of your mother and sister." The general left and then he leaned against a wall where no one could see and let the tears fall. His precious Yue was so injured and for what? A man's own ego, or something more. He should have come at him, not his sweet little girl.

The brigade watched a military car drive up to the Lin family home and stop by the front gate. The womenfolk whispered amongst themselves about the incident at the river. Their new Brigade Captain had rescued the Lin family daughter. He had to give her air to bring her back from death. This was highly improper for women. Once a woman held the arm of a man and her family beat her until she was forced to marry him. It looked like the Lin family would also go down the same path.

Lin Muqin got down and opened the gate to let the car in. Lin Jinkai parked the car beside the house and got out. Yuqin and Junkai helped their sister gently into a wheelchair. Fu Ping ran around them and opened the doors that lead to Lin Yue's room. The boys helped her into her room and into bed before leaving her to go back to work. Fu Ping placed a blanket on her child's lower body. "Just rest child, I will be here if you need anything." Lin Yue hummed in response. Her head was pounding and she could barely think past the memories that flooded her mind.

She was sitting in her apartment working on an embroidery piece when her building exploded. She was now in the body of a young girl who was murdered by a sick man because she had rejected him. But this time she was alive and a military captain had rescued her. Lin Yue sat quietly trying to take in every memory of 'Yue's'. She was a kind girl with three older brothers. The whole family spoiled her to distraction. The girl had skills in embroidery and made her family's clothes for them. She can blame any confusion on the head injury.

She will have to thank Mo Jinchen for saving her. She spotted the black leather and a basket of thread in several colors. An idea formed in her mind. "Mother, can you pass me the black leather and my basket of thread? I want to make a gift for Jinchen as thanks for saving me." Fu Ping smiled and handed her talented child her things. "What do you think of the Captain?" Lin Yue smiled. "He reminds me of the Samurai of old. Brave and honorable." Fu sat down and watched her daughter cut and shape the leather into several long rectangular pieces. Then she took a stiff dark blue fabric and placed a rectangle of leather against it. Lin Yue took her strong leather needle and sewed the two pieces together before cutting out the leather again. She did this once more before creating smaller rectangles. She then embroidered the characters for samurai on one large piece and Mo Jinchen's name on the other. She finally sewed everything together and folded it in half and placed a thick padded brick gently over the wallet to create the fold. By tomorrow the wallet will be ready for him to use.

"What did you make?" Fu Ping was curious. "It's a wallet. It holds money and your identification card. I hope Jinchen likes it." Fu Ping inspected her work. "This style is more masculine, I can make you one, but it will look different." Fu Ping smiled. "later child. Rest, I'll go get your medicine for the pain." Fu Ping left the room and returned with a small pill bottle and a cup of tea. "Here, child take these and rest. I'll go prepare dinner." While Lin Yue took the medicine, Fu Ping moved the basket and remaining leather to the desk where she kept it. Then Lin Yue settled down to sleep. A smile on her face.
