CHAPTER 10: The Final Chase – Fire Without Fear
The Fire Nation capital simmered under a crimson dusk, the air tense with the anticipation of war. Azula stood on a balcony overlooking the palace grounds, her posture straight, perfect… and too still.
Robert stepped beside her, wearing his dark armor and wolf mask at his hip.
"You're quiet," he said gently.
Azula didn't look at him.
"Father expects perfection."
"You're more than his expectations."
That earned him a sideways glance — tired, but grateful.
"No," she whispered, "I'm not."
Robert reached for her hand. She let him hold it, fingers curling slowly into his.
"You are to me."
Azula exhaled shakily — a sound she would never let anyone else hear.
"I'm… trying," she said softly. "I want to be better. For you."
"You already are," he said.
The words made her eyes soften like cooling blue flame.

🔥 Mission Assignment: Hunt the Avatar (Again)
Inside the war room, Ozai's generals knelt in formation. Maps were rolled open. Plans laid out.
Ozai's voice boomed like distant thunder:
"Azula. Robert. You will track the Avatar and weaken his allies. Leave the final blow to me."
Azula bowed flawlessly.
Robert bowed too — though inside, he fought a twist of unease.
As they left the room, Azula grabbed his wrist and pulled him aside.
"He doubts us," she hissed.
"No," Robert said calmly. "He doubts everyone."
Azula clenched her jaw. "I don't want to disappoint him."
Robert took her chin gently, guiding her gaze to his.
"You won't. But you don't owe him your soul."
Her breath caught.
Azula Fire Nation Princess caught off guard — not by battle, but by kindness.
"…You really believe that?"
He nodded.
"I believe in you."
Azula looked away quickly, blinking too fast.

🏃♀️ The Chase Begins
They tracked Team Avatar across the Fire Nation coastlines.
Smoke trails from Appa's fur.
Waterbending marks along rivers.
Sokka's sloppy footprints from rushing everywhere.
Azula squatted over a set of prints in the ash.
"Two hours old," she murmured. "They're close."
Robert knelt beside her.
"Want to take them down or just scare them off?"
Azula hesitated.
A month ago, she would have said: Crush them.
Now… she thought of him.
"I don't want to hurt them more than I have to," she admitted.
Robert smiled softly.
"That's improvement."
Azula elbowed him lightly.
"Don't get used to it."
But she was smiling too.

⚡ A Sudden Ambush
Team Avatar spotted them first.
Appa roared.
Toph stomped the ground.
Aang soared forward, air swirling around him.
Robert blocked a blast of air with crossed arms, skidding back.
Azula moved to his side, blue fire blazing.
Mai and Ty Lee arrived moments later, flipping through the brush.
The fight began — fast, chaotic, blurred.
Aang dove at Azula — Robert intercepted, kicking Aang away.
Toph earth-pushed a boulder — Robert shattered it with a spinning strike.
Katara launched a wave — Robert took the hit to protect Azula, tumbling across the ground.
"ROBERT!" Azula screamed.
She didn't care who heard.
She ran to him, sliding to his side.
"You're hurt—"
"I'm fine," he coughed, sitting up. "But thanks for yelling my name in front of literally everyone."
Azula scowled fiercely.
"I don't care. You scared me."
Team Avatar, shocked, slowed their attacks just from seeing Azula care about someone.
Aang blinked. "Uh… since when does Azula have feelings?"
Azula rose, blue fire blazing.
"Shut. Up."
Robert put his hand on her arm.
"Azula, don't. Let's fall back."
She looked at him — really looked — and nodded.
They retreated into the forest, flames lighting their path.

🌙 That Night: Azula Begins to Break — But Robert Holds Her Together
The camp was quiet, lit only by fireflies drifting between trees. Azula sat apart from the others, staring into the dark like she was waiting for something to strike her.
Robert approached slowly.
"You didn't sleep last night. Or the night before."
Azula didn't look at him.
"I can't. Every time I close my eyes… I hear Father's voice."
Robert sat beside her.
"You're scared he'll be disappointed."
"I'm scared," she whispered, "that without power, without fear, without perfection… I'm nothing."
Robert reached for her face gently, turning her toward him.
"You're not nothing. You're someone worth loving."
Azula froze.
Worth… loving?
Her breath shook.
"Robert… I— I think I love you."
He smiled softly.
"I love you too."
Azula leaned in slowly — not the fierce, confident princess kiss from before — but a trembling, vulnerable one.
A girl terrified of losing the only person who ever saw her.
Robert held her as she leaned her forehead against his chest.
"Stay with me," she whispered. "Please."
"I'm not going anywhere," he murmured.
Azula shuddered, closing her eyes, letting him steady her.
For the first time in her life…
She wasn't alone.
She didn't have to pretend.
She didn't have to be perfect.
She just had to be Azula,
and Robert would stay.
