"Adam, long time no see."
Spencer forced a smile, but his trembling hands and constricted pupils revealed the extreme fear in his heart.
Toru sat across from him without any hurry. He lowered his head, looked at the glass shards on the floor and the liquor soaking into it, then chuckled.
"My dear adoptive father, it seems you're in a bad mood. I still remember that you liked breaking things whenever you were upset."
"After so many years, you still haven't changed that bad habit. You're still so short-tempered. You're the CIA Director now, so how can you still be this unstable?"
Toru shook his head regretfully. He picked up an unopened bottle of champagne from the table in front of him, then took two clean glasses and poured one for himself and one for Spencer, who was sitting opposite him.
Spencer stared at the bottle, watching the golden liquid pour into the glass and form faint bubbles.
Toru lowered his gaze and chuckled. "What, are you regretting not putting poison in this bottle? That way, if I drank this glass, you could kill me directly."
"Adam, you're joking. How could I want to poison you?"
Spencer forced a smile. He took the glass Toru offered him and took a sip himself, as if saying, See? There's no poison in this wine. I drank it myself.
Toru did not comment. He also picked up the champagne and took a sip.
"Anselme Selosse, sold for thirteen thousand dollars at an auction three years ago."
"It seems you were the one who bought this bottle, my dear adoptive father."
"I really miss it. I remember three years ago, we were still drinking face-to-face. You told me you had become the CIA Director, and your goal wasn't just to be Director. You had greater political ambitions."
"You hoped I could help you. Help you climb to a higher position."
Toru's eyes seemed to show a trace of reminiscence, recalling everything that had happened in the past with some emotion.
Immediately after, Toru's gaze sharpened. He looked at Spencer, who was sitting opposite him, his body gradually grown obese and his former edge long gone, then shook his head regretfully.
"You've really changed too much."
"I remember when I was five years old and first saw you in the orphanage. You were so spirited back then. Your cold gaze and serious attitude are still unforgettable even now."
"I also remember what you once told me. From now on, you will be called Adam. Adam, remember, I will give you a privileged life and a great future, but you must obey my orders and complete those cruel training sessions."
"The training was cruel, but I was the best among the cadets in those batches, and you fulfilled your promise. You did give me a privileged life, and my future can be considered relatively great."
Toru looked at the fearful and restless face before him, becoming increasingly disappointed.
"Although, as I grew older and saw too many things, I clearly understood that you only needed my abilities. You treated me as a tool and had no feelings for me."
"But I don't care about such things. After all, you did change my life. I think you're also very confused as to why your brainwashing, which was so successful with other children, had no effect on me."
Spencer did not speak, but such doubts had indeed appeared in his mind.
Spencer's brainwashing methods were derived from the same line as those unethical experiments from the former Soviet Union.
Theoretically, a child whose worldview had not yet formed would become an absolutely loyal machine after undergoing such education.
Spencer saw Toru's talent and ability, and wanted to turn him into his most loyal tool.
However, he never expected that this education would have no effect on Toru at all. Instead, Toru had an extremely strong sense of self.
No matter how much Spencer racked his brain, he could never have imagined that Toru was a reincarnator who had possessed an adult's consciousness from a very young age, as well as his own unique worldview.
That set of brainwashing methods, which was only effective on children, was completely useless on Toru, who already had an adult mind.
"Adam, let me go. Please let me go. For the sake of the kindness I showed by raising you for more than ten years, please spare me."
Spencer pleaded humbly, his voice choked with sobs, his gradually obese body trembling uncontrollably.
Toru's gaze was disappointed. "Spencer, the life you've lived these past few years has completely corrupted you. The old you wasn't like this. You were so strong and brave. You had such conviction."
"Even when you used me as a tool back then, I still admired you. In fact, in some ways, I was learning from you. Learning your strength, learning your ruthlessness."
"But look at you now, actually begging me for mercy so humbly. This is simply unimaginable. Ten years ago, you wouldn't have begged me for mercy even if you died."
Spencer showed an ingratiating smile. "Adam, people change. Just like how I initially treated you as a tool, but after interacting with you, I now have feelings for you."
Toru shook his head and scoffed. "Do you believe that yourself? If you really had feelings for me, would you have sent those drug trafficking groups who had a grudge against me to Japan, hoping they would kill me and the people related to me?"
Spencer quickly said, "Adam, that was all a misunderstanding. You're also a CIA agent, so you should know that's how we operate."
"I had no choice. The people above were pressing me hard. I had to obey their orders to kill the Former President, otherwise I would have been finished too. If you had followed orders, how could I have done those things to you, right?"
"You should know that in the CIA, orders must be obeyed. Otherwise, you'll be treated as a traitor."
Toru took a sip of the champagne in his glass and said leisurely, "No. Even if you had refused those people's proposal, they couldn't have done anything to you. You simply made that choice because of your own ambition, your ambition to climb higher."
"Moreover, Spencer, since you've said it yourself, you should also understand that I am a CIA agent. Naturally, I will use CIA methods and means to settle the grudge between us."
Spencer knew there was no way out with Toru. He looked up and saw the disguised Mary standing behind Toru. He quickly said, "Mary, MI6 is planning to take you down."
"Convince Adam. Tell him to prioritize the bigger picture. As long as I'm alive and remain in this position, I can help you get MI6 to cancel the manhunt for you."
Spencer did not know that Toru had secretly replaced Rum and obtained most of the Black Organization's resources.
Seeing Toru lead so many elite armed personnel to attack the island, he thought this group belonged to Mary, that Toru had cooperated with Mary, or even that Toru had become Mary's subordinate.
He had no idea that Mary was actually the one listening to Toru. He had completely mistaken the relationship between the two.
Mary guessed Spencer's thoughts. She looked at Toru and smiled.
"Boss, do you think I have the ability to change your mind?"
Toru shook his head sadly. "Sorry, I'm a very stubborn person. Once I've made a decision, I won't allow anyone to change it."
Spencer listened to their words with wide eyes, his expression filled with disbelief.
How could this be? Mary was actually Toru's subordinate?
How was this possible? She was the Queen of Agents at MI6. Even the current head of MI6 would be afraid that Mary might take his position when facing her.
He seemed to know far too little about this adopted son. Although he knew Toru was talented and brilliant, he had never expected him to be this outstanding.
Spencer regretted it. He regretted it deeply.
If such a person could have been used by him, how could he have fallen to his current state? Perhaps he should not have restrained Toru like a tool back then, but instead used emotions.
