Chapter 145 - The Watchman (Part 5)

Despite the fact she had managed to avoid the rest of the needles, one pierced her shoulder from the back. Only the sharp, thin, end managed to graze her, while the remaining fell to the ground with a heavy metallic sound. It was almost like a sword stabbed a little until her bone was met and then was instantly pulled out.

Her hand immediately reached towards the wound as she fell to her knees while becoming almost breathless and her forehead started to sweat. Her fingertips touched blood as she glanced up at the beast who stood before her with a joyous tone of voice. "Don't worry... the pain will be over in less then a day!" The nurse spoke while picking her up by the collar, which was extremely painful from her side.

Endure it... just a little bit more... She thought to herself as a version of comforting her to adjust to the environment. "Your blood type... its pretty rare... no, just not from the list of blood I know. Anyway... onto the next test! This ghosty pal is just one step away from becoming one of us." She spoke while letting her go.

"May I know what is the next test?" Aefia asked while standing back up with trembling hands. I am nervous... what is next... and my arm has become hard to move... the pain itself is taking away the last bits of oxygen inside my blood and I feel like I will pass out any second now. I am just... holding into the last thread of hope just to see what outcome I can get.

"Oh... the next test would be... cutting off a piece of your skin to see if it is resistant to... a certain drug." The nurse spoke while turning around mid-walk. "You know... some humans don't really bind well with the medication and they get second degree burn... and seeing how pale and bloodless you are... I might as well spare the skin ripping part and directly head over to the shockwave experiment. You know? To see if you will be able to react to electrocuted blades during high pressure environments! Most humans have failed miserably but I hope you don't... ghosty pal."

Her eyes widened in fright as she stepped back just a small amount and watched the nurse pull out a few scapels from within her flesh and held a strange rectangular device over the metallic tips. A white and purplish line of spark ignited against each one of them as she waited an angonishingly long time just to watch the nurse walk up to her and hold her wrist up, the one holding the sharp pin.

"Now stay stood for a short while... don't be a dissapointment!" The monster sent a scapel into her intestines, making her spit blood onto the floor with her head looking down at the blade that pierced her skin. As soon as it had reached down on her organ, the scapel was removed and brought over her head as if to bring it down again.

Just in time, Aefia spun the sharp edge of her clip towards the monster's wrist and stabbed the area with heavy pressure as it let go of her and she jolted backwards while holding her stab wound. A scapel fell to the ground a with a clatter as the nurse seemed to be shocked with the way mere human fought back to a ghost who just planted a major injury into a major organ. "I said don't be a dissapointment!" The monster shouted as she moved forward with the blade still held high in the air.

I shouldn't have gone as far as to stab! Aefia panicked with the thought that she really needed to get some good distance away from the monster if she still wanted to be alive. She stood her place while clenching the clip tightly against her fingers, as her bloodied hand held out in the air as if to block the oncoming blade. Her height compared to the monster was comparably short, by two or three inches, and her hand couldn't stop the blade from partially contacting the left side of her face.

Blood fell in drops from the area as she used the clip at her hand to draw a diagonal line in the air, keeping the monster away from her for a very short while. "What is up with you ghostly pal? Are you really thinking about quitting trying to become one of us? I am certain it would be fun to get you when more of us starts coming after you!" The nurse shouted while turning around, trying to chase behind the girl who dashed from beside the talking monster.

Aefia's eyes scanned the area she was running to, her collar buzzing continuously, making speaking a hard task at this point. I had so many options to run away and I neglected every single one of them! What was I thinking that I could have solved a paranormal mystery?! Was chasing behind the watchman a major factor in my life? That without it I won't have survived?!

She thought to herself as her wound screamed with pain due to the heavy work. And just in time, she found a gate to a more destroyed side of the abandoned hospital. An idea instantly fell into her mind as she ran a mere inch away from the door and slammed it with her elbow while throwing one of the two scapels at the other, and a weird mechanism immediately shut the gates behind her, keeping the monster away from her.

She kept running, didn't even stop of glance back. "I will get you every now and then!... Ghosty Pal! I will make sure you skip no other experiments the next time!" She shouted while walking back towards the opposite direction of the closed gates.

Her head felt dizzy from all the running and heavy breathe as she came to a stop nearby and collapsed instantly to the floor. Her eyes stared directly at the ceiling covered in blood as blood fell from the side of her face and rolled down towards her ears. Her vision blurred as she slowly rolled to the side and covered her face with her blood covered hands and muttered words without knowing what she was actually saying.

"What an insolent child I was that I didn't care to take my parents' advice... twice... thrice... and I keep doing it again and again without knowing the consequences it would bring me?!" Tears escaped her eyes as she bleeded with every breathe and turned the floor around her red. She knew very well that with her voice and loudness... the many monsters would come after her with absolutely no mercy, and crush her bones without hesitation.

"I left my room back when I was eight... then got myself entangled into a bunch of violence... changing myself entirely into a child maniac. Why didn't I think I could have found some other way? Then I got myself brought into this torturing dimension that basically wants me dead again and again! Might as well take my own life now! What was the point?! It was just a phone and I could survive without technology!"

"Then... what was a small watch and chain going to cause a huge problem? I could have just gotten a new one and dismissed this one! I could have just went to another watchshop!" Her hands pulled away from her face as she clenched them tightly and smacked her fist into a broken tile, causing it to bleed a little bit more. "What did I think?! I could have done whatever problem it brought me?!" She continued shouting to herself... completely aware of the approaching footsteps.

"I hate the fact how you just forgot the most important sentence I had told you..." A familiar voice came from behind her as she rolled forward, facing the ceiling with a teary blood covered face. "You know... you really are just dumb... and you are weakening the more you don't go through the things that you call mom and dad... 'abusing' you." A mirror image of her spoke while placing a hand under chin with an expressionless face, as the fingers of her free hand wrapped against her chin, pulling her into a sitting possible.

After doing so, the mirror image stood up, looking towards their direction. "But also... if you very well know you have to return back home intact and not in pieces, you would have gotten up a long time ago and fought back, you have your training from your uncle's Mafia business to make up for your unresponsive element. Have you become powerless in that too? Besides... I don't remember myself rolling in the dirt covered ground and crying to herself saying she had practically failed her life.

"You know you have come here for one task... so complete that task and go back to the palace...otherwise you will die and no one will come around to save you the second you wake up. The last time... you friend came along. This time... you are alone... facing hundreds of paranormal creatures where you knew you had a chance to fight back... multiple chances to escape and millions of thoughts of hesitation."

"Then you tell me... what I should do next..." Aefia asked as she wiped her face with the back of her hand. The mirror image smiled as she faded away like a memory. "Fight... and feed them their own meat. Be as gruesome as you were back when you were just twelve." Those last words floated into her mind as she stood up and dusted her dark green coat at the shoulders where it was darkened to a blackish colour.

Clenching the scapel she had picked up not so long ago, she waited walked forward, towards where the monsters were approaching. Her panicked steps turned solemn and silent as she looked down with shadowed eyes, making herself seem like a ghost. Just like the others present inside this abandoned row of buildings, her steps turned bloody as shoeprints of her heels' sole was left behind, in a deep dark red. Her choker buzzed to life as she ignored it completely and took a turn, bumping into the arguing monsters.

"That girl tried to lock me away from her fresh live meat! I should be the one to kill her!" The nurse shouted, silencing everyone else. "But I was the one who set up that collar against her neck! I should be the one to slaughter her alive! I should be given the right as the first ghost to have met her! If she is crying right now... she must be crying for bumping into me the first place!"

"Nonsense! That girl has meat that smells like animals! Most probably a fierce wolf! Her scent is blocking our noses right this second!" Another feminine voice added while sniffing the air around them. "This is going to be the feast of the decade! How long has it been? A hundred years since I came here?!" The excitement roared across the group as one by one, they spoke about their debuts into this monster world.

Then, unknowingly, someone else joined them, someone new. "You seem to all be having your own shares... but what about me? I also want to know what raw meat taste like." Placing a hand against her chin, she was found to be sitting on a bench cross-legged while glancing at them with a penetrating smile. "Do note the fact that I am included into this havoc too, so I must have a huge serving size in the group... right?... Ghosty pal?"

"What do you think you are up to now?!" The nurse turned around and stomped her feet as she neared the girl with her hands clenched at her sides. "You are going to return to the test labs and continue your experiments! I don't want to hear any one of your excuses anymore!" The monster lifted her up by the collar as she was continued smirking at the plastic face.

"I thought you said I was already a ghost..." She asked, which sent a ripple of shock against the group of monsters who were behind them both. "Uh... well... it doesn't work like that! That was just a compliment! You don't know proper wording?!" The nurse held up a claw above her face as she brought it down.

"I hate your type... precisely because of this... and I don't want to get along with anyone of you... ghosty pal..." Her soft and low voice rang against the quiet hall as the sound of meat being stabbed echoed off the walls of the abandoned hospital, and within a small amount of time, blood spewed out from the back of the nurse's head as the monster collapsed, letting go of the girl completely.

"She had no sense of how to hold a human up? She was suffocating me like I was nothing." Aefia's hand was covered in blood as she pulled up her sleeves and tried to shake off excess blood off the only piece of blade she had. "Who is next? Step to the front!" She shouted as the monsters stepped back one at a time. Did I get your nerves already? She internally smiled.

Her footsteps lifted towards the others as she stepped onto the dead monsters body and moved forwards. Terrified, some of them broke into a run while the others went into a much more slow and steady pace of seriousness and wanting to attack back. Aefia continued walking... remembering how she was practically a walking dead ever since she managed to get back alive the day she fell from the fifth floor. "Why are my pals running away from me? I thought we were sharing the meal?" She asked, knowing how in an uproar the rest was in.

"Just run!" One of them shouted as they grabbed a few standing monsters along with them. "Why? She is just a powerless human!" They protested as they moved towards the girl who pursued her steps without hesitation, almost as if she was now used to this type of situations.

"Why else you dumb fish! You know that humans who are serial killers, maniacs and psychos are more dangerous then ghost and monsters themselves! Of you want to keep your head intact... run!" One replied while trying to pull them along. Behind, some other monsters added with pure hesitation.

"And psychos outrank everyone of them! And that girl is clearly a psycho!"
