While Sandy and the others were fighting Enel, Chopper—who had gotten separated from Luffy's group—accidentally wandered into the territory of Gedatsu, one of the God's Enforcers responsible for the Ordeal of Swamp.
At first, Chopper was beaten badly again and again. He felt he couldn't keep running forever. He couldn't rely on others to protect him every single time.
Especially after that morning… when he solemnly swore in front of everyone that he was a brave Pirate.
So Chopper mustered his courage—only to be beaten even more brutally.
The power gap was simply too large.
Dizzy and battered, Chopper suddenly remembered Sandy's explanation back on Drum Island about their Pirate flag: turning the impossible into the possible—perseverance.
That was the belief of the late Dr. Hiruluk… and the dream he entrusted to Chopper.
So Chopper called upon that spirit.
In that moment, an invisible strength supported him. It allowed him to see through Gedatsu's weakness, and with his strongest technique…
"Engraving Hoof!"
…he defeated Gedatsu.
Right after the battle, Chopper happened to run into Nami.
Chopper rushed over, excited.
"Nami! I—I'm a Pirate now too! I defeated a God's Enforcer! Woohoo!!"
Seeing his injuries, Nami quickly stepped forward in concern.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine! I'm really happy today. I must tell that bastard Sandy later that I defeated a God's Enforcer, hehe…"
"Alright, alright," Nami sighed. "Didn't you leave with the others? Why are you alone?"
"We got separated halfway." Chopper sniffed the air. "Huh? Do you see that giant vine? I smell Robin's scent! Should we go find her?"
"Of course we have to!" Nami replied. "He's the only one who can find the gold anyway."
"Oh right," Chopper asked, "Where are Sanji and Usopp?"
"They got struck by Enel's lightning," Nami said helplessly. "They're still unconscious on the ship."
Soon after, Chopper and Nami met Robin at the base of the massive vine.
After exchanging greetings, Robin said calmly, "Based on the clues and ancient text I've deciphered, the gold should be at the top of the giant vine."
"The top?" Nami looked up at the vine disappearing into the clouds. "Then what are we waiting for?! Let's go!"
"But… how do we get up there?" Chopper asked. Then—
"Wait. What's that sound?"
The three of them stared downward.
No… way.
"That giant vine is collapsing!! RUN!" Nami screamed.
"Why would such a huge vine suddenly collapse?!" Chopper panicked.
Robin answered while sprinting, "It looks like someone cut it down."
"Robin," Nami cried, "did you see who did it? Who can cut down a vine that big? Wuwuwu—my gold!"
Then they all froze.
Because there was someone who could cut it down.
"SANDY!!!"
Meanwhile…
"One two three four, two two three four, three two three four…"
Everyone stared blankly at Sandy, completely confused about what the hell he was doing.
Anyone from Blue Star would've screamed: Isn't this just morning calisthenics?!
Wyper asked Raki with a darkened expression, "Didn't he say he was dealing with the vine? Why is he doing… whatever that is?"
Raki could only shake her head.
Zoro asked in exasperation, "Luffy, why the hell are YOU doing those weird movements with him?"
Luffy grinned happily. "It's fun! Wanna join? Two two three four, three two three four—"
Zoro slapped his forehead.
"Do you idiots even realize what's happening right now?!"
"Alright!" Sandy stopped. "We had to warm up first, so we don't tear a ligament later. You sword-wielding illiterate wouldn't understand even if I explained it!"
"What did you say?!" Zoro snapped. "Say it again and I'll cut you down!"
Sandy ignored him and suddenly leaped into the air, drawing his sword—High Wind.
From high above, Sandy looked at the massive vine. He had no choice but to slice it into sections and stack them upright.
That was all he could do for now.
Everyone watched as sections—each about twenty meters long—were neatly cut and stood upright in one location. After several pieces were removed…
A giant golden bell, as tall as a person, finally revealed itself.
"This is—!!"
Wyper, Raki, and Gan Fall all trembled with excitement.
The Golden Bell.
Also known as the Light of Shandora.
If they rang that bell high in the sky, the people of Skypiea would hear it—and the feud of over 400 years would finally end.
Wyper and Gan Fall exchanged looks of disbelief and joy.
Sandy landed lightly and boasted, "Pretty artistic cuts, right? Not bad, huh?"
"DUANG!!"
Nami stormed forward.
"You bastard! This was your fault! You almost scared us to death!!"
"Everyone—!" Chopper waved excitedly.
Robin smiled softly. "So the Golden Bell really exists."
"Golden Bell?" Nami blinked.
Then she followed Robin's gaze, saw the glittering gold surface, and her eyes widened like stars.
"Gold! Gold! Real gold!! AHHHH!!"
Sandy ignored her and walked over to Gan Fall.
"Old man, do you happen to know where Enel's Ark is located?"
Gan Fall nodded. "I know the general location, but I'm not sure if—"
Sandy already knew most of the gold from Shandora had been used by Enel to repair the Ark: Maxim.
If he found that ship, would he ever need to worry about money again?
Sandy planned to dismantle it piece by piece.
As for taking the Ark for himself?
He wasn't interested. He didn't understand how to use it, didn't want to understand, and didn't care.
Taking the gold was enough.
