Chapter 35 - 2: SPECIAL - “RAIN IN THE FORBIDDEN ABYSS”

Year Four in the Forbidden Abyss. They'd been cultivating relentlessly, pushing toward Nascent Soul realm. But today, both were exhausted from a brutal fight with spirit beasts.

They found shelter in a cave as spiritual rain began to fall—a phenomenon unique to the Abyss where condensed spiritual energy fell like water.

"We should meditate, absorb the energy," Yuhan said, but he didn't move.

"We should," Kai agreed, also not moving.

They sat at the cave entrance, watching the glowing rain fall. It was beautiful in a surreal way, each drop containing enough energy to fuel a mortal cultivator for days.

"Do you miss it?" Yuhan asked quietly. "The outside world?"

"Sometimes. I miss real food. Real beds. Not fighting for our lives daily." Kai leaned back against the cave wall. "But I don't miss the politics, the constant pretending."

"Here, we can just be ourselves."

"Exactly."

Yuhan moved closer, resting his head on Kai's shoulder. "Four years together in this place. Sometimes it feels longer than our entire previous lifetime."

"Because we're actually paying attention this time. Not just surviving side by side, but really being together." Kai wrapped an arm around Yuhan. "I know every expression you make now. Every habit. How you tighten your grip on your sword when you're nervous. How you hum when you're content."

"You hum?"

"Unconsciously. Usually after we eat."

Yuhan laughed. "I didn't know that. What else don't I know?"

"That I love watching you sleep because you look peaceful in a way you never do awake. That your smile—your real smile, not the polite one—makes my heart race even after all this time. That I would spend a thousand years in this cave if it meant being with you."

Yuhan lifted his head to look at Kai. "That's... incredibly sappy."

"I know. I'm usually better at hiding it."

"Don't. I like it." Yuhan kissed him, soft and sweet. "For the record, I know things about you too."

"Like what?"

"Like how you touch your chest unconsciously when you're thinking about people you've lost. How you get this tiny crease between your eyebrows when you're worried. How you pretend to be confident and unshakeable, but you're actually terrified of failing people you care about."

Kai was quiet. "That's... accurate."

"I know. I've been paying attention." Yuhan kissed him again. "And I know that despite everything—two lifetimes, a thousand years, all the power and knowledge—you still doubt yourself. Still think you're not good enough."

"Maybe I'm not."

"You're more than enough. You're everything." Yuhan straddled Kai's lap, cupping his face. "Let me prove it."

What followed was hours of gentle intimacy, the spiritual rain providing a luminous backdrop. They took their time, exploring, relearning each other in bodies younger and less scarred than their previous forms.

When they finally lay tangled together, exhausted and content, the rain had stopped.

"We should cultivate," Yuhan murmured against Kai's neck.

"We should," Kai agreed, neither moving.

They stayed like that, wrapped in each other, until dawn came to the Abyss.
