Chapter 1051 - Chapter 1051: Sun and Moon Dragons

Oracle of the Sun—Summon!

It was a summoning method much like Cyber Dragon, and likewise a Level 5 monster, though its stats were much weaker.

A figure dressed in ancient, tribal attire appeared, a sun-like emblem on his chest, but with an ominous face at its center.

[Oracle of the Sun, ATK 1000]

"So it really is Goodwin's deck," Kira commented.

He had already guessed this wasn't the real Goodwin, thinking that the deck might give away some clues. But surprisingly, the cards looked just like Goodwin's.

The opponent's quick detection of his ambush proved he was no ordinary person. Plus, the dark energy he had used resembled that of Zorc.

"What's your relationship with Zorc?" Kira asked.

Goodwin ignored the question and continued his moves.

"Now, I normal summon the Tuner monster 'Fire Ant Ascator'."

The name was straightforward: a huge red ant appeared, its enlarged features rather unsettling.

"I activate the Continuous Spell 'Celestial Bell Tower!'" (Anime Card)

A virtual image resembling a witch with a giant clock for a lower half was projected overhead.

"When Celestial Bell Tower is on the field, each time a Synchro Summon succeeds, its controller draws a card from their deck."

This was a card Goodwin used in the 5DS manga.

Kira's eyelid twitched.

Anime or manga, every original world has some simple-yet-scary cards…

[Fire Ant Ascator, ATK 700]

"Level 3, Tuner monster 'Fire Ant Ascator'.

Level 5, 'Oracle of the Sun'.

Tune up!"

[3+5=8]

"When the sun rises, all darkness is illuminated. Let the light shine! Synchro Summon—

Level 8, Sun Dragon Inti!"

Kira raised an eyebrow.

Did you just say… Sun Dragon what?

What a terrible name.

Stars aligned in the Synchro light, forming a golden sun. Four dragon heads extended from the sun, and the red dragon roared.

[Sun Dragon Inti, ATK 3000]

"Celestial Bell Tower effect: draw a card for successful Synchro Summon!"

Goodwin drew a card.

"Next, I use the monster effect of 'Weeping Idol' in my hand.

By banishing a Tuner monster from the Graveyard, I can Special Summon it from my hand."

Goodwin banished a monster from his Graveyard.

"Banish 'Fire Ant Ascator' from the Graveyard to Special Summon Weeping Idol!"

[Weeping Idol, ATK 0]

"And from my hand, I Special Summon the Dark Tuner monster 'Dark Tuner Dark Goddess Witaka' by paying 1000 Life Points."

[Goodwin, LP4000 → LP3000]

"Special Summon 'Dark Tuner Dark Goddess Witaka'!"

[Dark Tuner Dark Goddess Witaka, ATK 0]

Kira frowned. Dark Tuners.

Dark Tuners were unique to the anime—no real cards exist. They're special monsters for "Dark Synchro Summon," used by the Dark Signers.

As everyone knows, normal Synchro Summon is simple addition: Tuner + non-Tuners = total level.

Dark Synchro, however, uses subtraction: non-Tuner's level minus Dark Tuner's level = the negative-level Dark Synchro Monster.

Only Dark Signers can control Dark Synchro Monsters. According to the anime, Goodwin shouldn't be a Dark Signer yet.

Yet, Kira saw Goodwin's right arm glowing with the purple marks of a Dark Signer, shining like an LED in the dark.

"Dark Signer?" Kira said. "Only someone who's died can become a Dark Signer."

That was canon: when a person dies, if chosen by the underworld gods, they're resurrected as a Dark Signer.

In the anime, Goodwin became a Dark Signer by deliberately seeking death, but that should happen much later.

"You know a lot," Goodwin nodded calmly.

"But Rex Goodwin is already dead."

Kira frowned, watching Goodwin closely, then seemed to realize something.

"So that's it," Kira said. "After Goodwin died, his body received the Dark Signer's power. And you took over his body, gaining that power as well. Impressive. Care to share where you're from?"

Goodwin didn't answer. He just continued.

"Dark Tuner Dark Goddess Witaka's monster effect:

Her level can become equal to any Synchro Monster on the field.

I choose level 8 'Sun Dragon Inti.'

Dark Tuner Dark Goddess Witaka becomes level 8!"

[Dark Tuner Dark Goddess Witaka, LV3 → LV8]

"Now, I use my level 2 'Weeping Idol' and Dark Tuner 'Dark Tuner Dark Goddess Witaka' for a Dark Synchro!"

[2-8 = -6]

Dark Goddess's body became transparent, as if dissolving completely. Six stars were torn from her, violently merging into the Weeping Idol.

The statue shattered, its six stars drenched in pitch-black light, spinning in the air and shooting black lightning at one another, as if opening the door to the world of darkness.

"In the darkness, when the moon is full, the whispers of fiends beckon death's arrival! Synchro Summon—

Negative Level 6, Moon Dragon Quilla!"

First the Sun, now the Moon—a nearly identical design. An icy blue moon with a creepy face, four cold dragon heads stretching out, standing beside the Sun Dragon.

[Moon Dragon Quilla, ATK 2500]

"Both Sun and Moon Dragons on the first turn," Kira remarked. "Wow, hitting me with your best right away."

"Dark Synchro Summon counts as Synchro, so Celestial Bell Tower triggers—draw a card."

Goodwin commanded, "Battle! Moon Dragon Quilla, attack the face-down monster!"

Kira's flipped monster revealed a six-armed upright insect with a bulging backpack.

[Magical Merchant, DEF 700]

"Magical Merchant's effect," Kira explained. "When this card is flipped, I excavate cards from the top of my deck until I find a Spell or Trap card. That card goes to my hand, the rest go to the Graveyard."

He excavated six cards before revealing a Spell.

"Add 'Reasoning' to my hand. The other five go to the Graveyard."

Goodwin: "Now, Sun Dragon Inti, direct attack!"
