There it is.
I straighten slightly, my expression hardening. "So what, I'm supposed to just stay locked up in this house?"
"That's not what I said."
"It's what you meant."
His eyes darken. "I meant that I can't protect you if you don't let me."
"I didn't ask you to protect me."
"You don't have to ask."
My chest rises and falls faster now. "That doesn't give you the right to control where I go or what I do."
"It gives me the responsibility to keep you safe."
"I'm not a responsibility."
"You are when your name is tied to mine."
For a second, neither of us speaks. Then I swing my legs off the bed, standing up despite the slight dizziness that follows.
"I need a shower," I say, my voicef tight.
He watches me, something unreadable flickering in his eyes.
"Little hurricane…."
"I said I need a shower."
He doesn't stop me this time but I can feel his gaze on me as I walk toward the bathroom
