It was the early morning of the next day when Yoona boarded the bus back to her family's home in Seoul. Now she stood before the small two‑story house painted in a calming white.
"This is our modern family home. It looks spacious from the outside, but inside it feels pretty cramped," she murmured, stepping through the gate with her large backpack slung over her shoulder. The fresh scent of the green lawn filled her lungs as she took a deep breath.
"Apa, Eomma, I'm back~" she called out, reaching for the door latch, only to find it locked.
"Eomma!" she knocked, then noticed a slip of paper tucked under the door. "Huh? What's this?"
The note read: Yoona, Dad and I went out to buy groceries for dinner. If you're home, I've hidden the keycard in our secret spot.
Yoona nodded knowingly. Without hesitation, she thumped the wall beside the door, and the keycard slid out from a hidden slot.
"That's my mom, always coming up with the quirkiest ideas." She slid the card in, unlocking the door. With a push of her foot, the door swung wide, and she tossed her backpack onto the sofa in the living room. The hologram TV on the wall was still playing a rerun of a football match.
"Seriously? Leaving the house without turning off the lights? What a waste of electricity." She hopped onto the sofa, grabbed the remote, and shut the TV off. "That's Dad for you, always careless. Anyway, this place will be my shelter again. Let's get reacquainted."
She pointed to the right, toward another door.
"That's the storage room and the small garage." Then she gestured behind her. "And back there's the kitchen, connected to the rear door."
Yoona skipped across the living room, passed the bathroom under the stairs, and climbed up to the second floor. Turning right, she opened the door near the window, her old bedroom.
The room was painted pink, decorated with posters of countless artists.
"And this is my old room. Yeah, it's a bit too dreamy, but hey! t's pretty, just like the one who decorated it. Wahehe."
The wardrobe stood to the left of the door, beside her single bed. Across from it, sunlight streamed through the window. Yoona sat at her desk, jotting in her diary. A box of chemistry equipment rested nearby, with a bookshelf pressed against the edge of the desk. Morning light filtered through thick blue curtains.
"When Mom and Dad aren't home, I've got to take care of things. Nothing much to do—just water the plants out back, turn off the lights, check everything. Dad forgets all the time. And today the company's closed to prepare for the science exhibition. Ugh, what a boring day.
When will I ever get to see the world out there?"
She set down her pen and pulled open the curtains.
"If you had free time like me right now… what would you do?" she asked, turning as if speaking to someone. Opening her wardrobe, she found her old high school uniform, wrinkled and worn.
"Maybe I should…"
Her thought was cut short by a strange feeling. She turned left, eyes falling on the headboard—where a photo of her ex-boyfriend rested.
"Gong Min Jun… Or maybe I should spend this free time… Yes! Brilliant! Perfect!" Yoona snatched the photo and slipped it into her backpack. She grabbed her ballphone and dialed her current boyfriend.
"Hello, babe? Why are you calling so early?" So Hyung's sleepy voice answered.
"Babe, can you take me to building 0PP4 penthouse, Hyangnam?" she asked sweetly.
"What?! Are you crazy? That place has insane security! What are you even planning?"
"I think it's time I finally cut ties with my senior."
"You don't have to go that far! Just call him, it'll be over."
"Honestly, babe… I want to meet him face to face. It shows I care. Okay, fine! I'll confess. I want to get autographs from Oppa White and Jinam[1]. I've already collected six, I just need two more! Pleaseee~"
With that, Tae So Hyung drove straight to her house. A knock echoed at her bedroom door.
"Coming!" Yoona rushed to open it.
"So what's the plan? The guards there are tough as hell. You want me to take the punches for you?" he grumbled.
"Don't be sarcastic. Or are you mad I mentioned my ex? Maybe your oxytocin levels are too high."
"Ye...N-no… I'm just worried you'll run into trouble." He lifted her gently onto her desk chair.
"I'm a little girl, babe. No guard would dare kick someone this pretty. Hehe." She teased.
"Fine, fine. So what's the plan?"
Yoona pulled up her hologram board and sketched the building. At the top was a large white penthouse, with an arrow pointing to the back entrance.
"Here's the deal. See this utility pole by the trees? I need you to jam the ground‑floor CCTV system. Maximum three minutes."
So Hyung nodded. "Hmm… I can probably manage two minutes. I'll try."
"Two minutes is fine. After that, the real trick begins. I need you to distract the back‑door guard, any way you can." She widened her eyes at him. He tugged his collar nervously.
"O‑okay… I'll drag him into the bushes if I have to."
"Perfect! I'll handle the rest." Yoona clapped her hands. Moments later, the two of them stood before the towering white building.
"Stick to the plan, love." She winked her left eye at him.
Twinkle!
