The war to secure Baal is over, and it is time for us to rebuild the system from the ground up. The Tyranids devastated many planets, but it is not as bad as in the canon timeline. At least, we have enough people to help us rebuild.
My job? I do all of it. Roboute asked me to make sure each planet can feed itself while he handles the security side of the problem. Lucky for him, I already have many ideas to help the planets produce enough food.
Using the combination of [Tinker-Alchemy (IV)], [Tinker-Ecology], and [Tinker-Bio (I)], I create massive hydroponics farms that can feed up to 3 billion souls on a single planet using modified plants that are dense in calories and nutrients.
3 billion sounds like a lot, right? Nope. A basic Hive City can contain ten times that amount of souls. Because of this, I also created massive food processing centers that process the plants into rations that are even more calorie- and nutrient-dense.
This allows a pair of hydroponic farms and food processing centers to produce food that can feed up to 40 billion people. It allows a Hive World to survive when there is a Warp Storm that blocks ships from approaching the planet.
I also built a massive bio-reactor to power them all. I am thinking of using the food produced by the farms to power the reactor, but the Mechanicus is already thinking of using the corpses of fallen people as fuel for the reactor.
I want to tell them that the plants grown on the farm will be enough to power the bio-reactor, but they insist that food is more valuable than people in a Hive World.
I can only release a sigh and let them do whatever they want. This universe makes sure the grimdark stays, no matter how hard I try to fix it. What makes matters worse is that I start to think like them, too. I can see the logic behind their words. My morals are yelling at me for agreeing with them, but the logical part of me agrees with the Mechanicus.
I need to make sure not to get used to this grimdark.
Other than that, I also make sure that each of the planets has a Zero Point Reactor to power the entire city or even the entire planet. I even created a blueprint for a new, slightly better energy generator for the Mechanicus. It is called Class-3 Singularity. It is a generator that creates an isolated singularity and captures the energy it releases. It will produce more energy than the Zero Point Reactor and be a bit cheaper in materials.
I let the Mechanicus test and create it.
Anyway, after another three months of busy work, I finally have some free time and enjoy a bit of peace. I put the entire army of the Mechanicus under me to work, and they are great at following orders and blueprints.
After I am done making all the blueprints and planning, they handle the construction. Say whatever you want regarding the Mechanicus, but they are truly the best people for production and one of the key reasons why the Imperium can conquer the majority of the galaxy.
Without their sheer production output, the Imperium cannot spread this far and wide.
With them handling all of the construction, I can peacefully experiment and tinker. For one, I am now creating a blueprint for a megastructure to close a portion of the Great Rift. It will not close the entire thing, but it will close the rift in certain areas.
That means we need to build hundreds of these megastructures to close the Great Rift and return it to its original state as the Eye of Terror. I don't know if I can close the Eye of Terror because the influence of the Chaos Gods is so strong in that part of the galaxy that I fear the machine cannot close it.
There are still a few things that I need to confirm before I am done with it. I need to ensure all materials used are readily available to the Imperium. I also need to develop a synthetic material that produces the unique effect that enables the machine to close the Great Rift.
I remember playing some kind of Warhammer game, and one of the endings involved the Necrons closing the Great Rift or something. If I can get my hands on one of the Blackstone Pylons… I will have a breakthrough in my experiments and testing.
Maybe I can synthesize something similar to Blackstone. Sadly, we are far from Cadia, and reaching it will be hard because it is a nest of daemons and traitors.
I rub the back of my head in frustration and release a sigh. If only the Necrons were willing to help us. Sadly, they see us as nothing but pests on their lawn. I also don't know the locations of Necron Tomb Worlds, so I can't reverse-engineer their technology.
Well… that is also a bad idea. Attacking Necrons is more dangerous than attacking a daemon world. At least, that is my opinion. At the moment, I have a lot of abilities that allow me to kill daemons. Necrons? They are a race that can time-travel, destroy a star with the press of a button, and continue to resurrect as long as their Tomb is intact.
They are masters of the physical world, and I don't have enough abilities to beat them when they get serious. So, it is better to let them sleep in their Tomb Worlds and focus on what I already have.
I shake my head and look down at my workstation. There are many blueprints and various tools on the table. What should I create next? Should I create cyberware for myself? Even though my body is strong enough to fight a Custodes head-on, I am still a regular human.
Well, as regular as a human who has Chaos Gacha.
What I want is something that lets me use Canto to its full potential. I can already hack things without physical contact. However, there are a few things that I cannot hack. Among them are machines with strong cyberwalls and stealthy programming that block Canto from performing a quick hack.
I am thinking of creating a cybernetic that allows me to act like Sombra from Overwatch. It creates a quantum tunnel that allows me to connect Canto to any machines I can reach through the tunnel. It will act as if I were connecting Canto to those machines, as if there were a physical wire connecting to each machine.
This is great because many people in the world use cybernetics that I can control from afar.
My mind works overtime, creating a blueprint of the cybernetic I want. After a few minutes of silence, I grin and start to write it down. However, before I can do anything, I notice someone in front of the door to my workshop.
I press a button and open the door. I can see Rita walk toward me and say,
"My Lord, Lord Primarch Guilliman is asking for your presence on the bridge."
"Right." I put down the tools and stand up. "Let's not make him wait."
Roboute does not ask for my presence unless it is for something important. We walk through the ship with a group of Custodes silently following us. They still follow me around. I have already gotten used to their presence by now.
When we reach the bridge, I can see Roboute looking at the hologram in front of him with a frown on his face. I can also see anger behind those eyes. Is that the map of Ultramar? Ah, is it time for the Plague War?
"Kael, you are here. Good. We will depart for Ultramar in two hours. I need your presence on my ship and for you to go with me to Ultramar."
"What's happening?"
"I received news that one of my brothers has appeared in realspace and attacked Ultramar."
