Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: United Front

The team moved as one.

"Stay together!" Lucas called as the Umbra Guardians closed in again.

Aria stepped forward first. Her Music Hyperbook glowed softly, releasing a wave of sound infused with light. The energy rippled across the battlefield, striking the Guardians and forcing their shadowy forms to flicker.

Ryker followed instantly, raising his Aegis Hyperbook.

"I'll cover us."

A steady barrier formed around the group, holding firm as they advanced.

Narissa didn't hesitate.

"Then I'll push them back."

Her Pandora Hyperbook unleashed a violent mix of fire and ice, crashing into the weakened Guardians and driving them backward.

Jax lifted his hand, focus sharp.

"Let's make this easier."

The space around the enemies warped. Gravity pressed down unevenly, disrupting their movements and throwing them off balance.

Ivandoe stepped in.

The Sword of the Paradox glowed faintly in his grip as he moved forward, each strike controlled and precise—cutting cleanly through destabilized forms.

Behind him, Lucas reinforced the assault, his Arcana Hyperbook amplifying their attacks with bursts of magical force.

For a moment—

They had the upper hand.

Then the Guardians changed.

Their movements slowed…

Then synchronized.

Dark energy gathered between them before erupting outward in a violent surge.

The impact blasted the team backward, breaking their formation.

"They're adapting…" Lucas muttered, steadying himself.

Before anyone could react—

One of the Umbra Guardians vanished.

It reappeared in front of Narissa, claws already descending.

A barrier snapped into place.

Ryker.

The strike slammed into his shield, sending a sharp vibration through it—

But it held.

"Not getting through," he said firmly.

Ivandoe's focus sharpened.

No hesitation.

He activated Omni-Craft.

Air condensed before him, forming a compact, swirling shield. With a sharp motion, he launched it forward.

The impact sent the Guardian crashing back into the shadows.

The team regrouped quickly, tension rising.

"We need to adjust," Lucas said. "They're faster now."

Aria nodded. "Then we slow them down."

Jax stepped forward. "Got it."

As gravity shifted again, a familiar voice echoed in Ivandoe's mind—

You can end this.

The Paradox.

The Guardians grew heavier. Slower.

Just enough.

Ivandoe exhaled.

Then—

He activated Dilation.

Everything changed.

The world around him slowed.

His movements became lighter. Sharper.

Faster.

He moved.

In an instant, he closed the distance—his blade cutting cleanly through the nearest Guardian as its form shattered.

He didn't stop.

Each motion flowed into the next. Efficient. Precise. Relentless.

The Guardians tried to react—

But they were too slow.

Moments later, the battlefield fell silent.

The remaining shadows faded… leaving nothing behind.

Ivandoe lowered his sword, breathing steady as the faint glow around him dimmed.

Behind him, the team watched.

"…That was fast," Aria said quietly.

Lucas nodded. "We're getting closer."

Ivandoe sheathed his sword, expression calm—

But his eyes held a quiet intensity.

"This isn't over."
