MHGA Chapter 388: Steamrolling
After equipping themselves entirely in high-rank gear crafted by the Felynes from monsters they'd personally hunted, the hunters arrived in Mitakihara City clad head-to-toe in armor and bearing massive weapons.
The sight of numerous individuals dressed in various suits of armor walking around Mitakihara City in broad daylight quickly drew considerable attention. Just as Kairo Retsu and the others were preparing to divide their clearing areas based on the map, police officers approached them, having been notified by concerned citizens.
"Actually… We're just a cosplay group!" Kairo Retsu confidently declared to the officer. "We're wearing these costumes for a performance."
To dispel the officer's suspicion, Kairo Retsu easily lifted the Great Sword in one hand and demonstrated casually, "See? It's not heavy at all… listen to this sound."
Kairo Retsu tapped the monster-material-crafted Great Sword, producing a distinctly non-metallic sound. "They're just props."
The officer visibly relaxed upon hearing the tapping sound.
Thinking it over, it indeed made sense—a group wearing meticulously designed armor couldn't possibly be genuine. Furthermore, the equipment clearly wasn't metallic. If it had been actual iron armor, even standing up properly would be a challenge for any ordinary person.
Finally managing to convince the police officers, the hunters swiftly allocated the Witch locations identified by the Felynes and began their extermination mission.
Meanwhile, the Kyubeys wandering the city searching for potential Magical Girls remained oblivious. Quietly, at Mitakihara City's center, a dimensional rift opened, spilling forth immense magical energy that gradually expanded outward, transforming its surroundings into a "Dungeon."
As the expanding magic passed by a Kyubey walking in an alley, it seemed to notice something unusual, lifting its head and glancing around to pinpoint the disturbance. However, what answered the Kyubey was an arrow falling from the sky.
Hundreds of meters away, Emiya Shirou stood atop a building using an Arasaka Corporation intelligent telescope, observing his arrow precisely striking down the Kyubey.
"Next Kyubey at three kilometers, four o'clock direction." After Shirou eliminated one Kyubey, Winged Lion's low whisper reverberated alongside magical vibrations in his ear, directing him to the next target.
Without hesitation, Shirou moved towards the indicated direction, preparing to snipe the next Kyubey from above.
At the same time, some hunters had already infiltrated Witch barriers, like… David.
Noticing its barrier breached, the Witch became visibly agitated, commanding large numbers of familiars to swarm towards David.
David stood at the barrier's entrance, calmly observing the incoming familiars. He took the Gunlance off his back while his cybernetically modified eyes glowed with targeting lights.
For ordinary people, the familiars' attack would have been lethal, but in David's accelerating perception, their movements slowed dramatically. Arasaka's custom-built Sandevistan for David was now running at full capacity.
Hot steam blasted from David's spine, venting the heat generated by his cyberware through the armor's gaps, briefly revealing the external components of his spinal Sandevistan.
"Total count… three thousand one hundred ninety-two." David's cybernetic eyes swiftly tallied the attacking familiars.
"Clearing mobs one by one is troublesome, so…"
David took several high-explosive shells from the ammunition pouch at his waist and threw them towards the familiars. He then aimed his Gunlance at the thrown shells.
Scorching energy rapidly gathered within the Gunlance, and with a mechanical click, a wave of energy surged forward, detonating the thrown explosives.
A massive explosion erupted within the barrier, and before the Witch could comprehend what happened, most of its familiars were obliterated.
Emerging from the blast, David swiftly advanced, his Sandevistan fully activated. Before the Witch could react, David rammed the Gunlance directly into its body.
"Reloading."
David loaded a new Wyvern's Fire round into the Gunlance, ejecting the glowing-hot spent casing from the previous shot.
Before the heated casing even hit the ground, David forcefully thrust the Gunlance deeper into the Witch's body: "Full Burst!"
An unrestrained explosion surged from inside the Witch outward until its body burst apart.
Amidst the shattered remains, David's mechanical eye precisely locked onto a small object propelled by the explosion. Dropping his shield momentarily, he swiftly caught the Witch's Grief Seed mid-air.
"Success." David breathed a sigh of relief.
His battle style, combining cyberware and Cyberpunk technology, proved effective even against massive opponents.
"See that? I've grown stronger too!" David confidently placed the Grief Seed in his hunter's pouch, setting out to locate his next target.
Other hunters similarly tackled Mitakihara City's Witches with their unique combat methods.
For instance, Naofumi Iwatani advanced like a fortress, steadily pushing forward using his Heavy Bowgun and shield.
Or Joseph, who enhanced his Hunter weapon attacks using amplified Ripple.
Or even the cautious and methodical team led by Laios and Tanjiro, who systematically cleared each Witch.
However, among the hunters, there was one whose combat style was rather unique…
"Ahhh! Basic magic isn't enough!" Kazuma frantically fled through the barrier, dodging the enormous Witch pursuing him.
Though he swiftly eliminated the familiars, dealing with large enemies was never Kazuma's forte.
"It'd be great if Megumin was here right now." As Kazuma ran and dodged with his bow in hand, a sudden idea struck him.
Driven by inspiration, Kazuma abruptly stretched out his hand toward the Witch, using the skill he excelled at:
"Steal!!"
"Ding—!"
Accompanied by a crisp sound, a slightly murky yet exquisite Grief Seed appeared in Kazuma's palm, causing the Witch to suddenly halt.
"It seems this time, I, Kazuma, will claim MVP!!"
