MHGA Chapter 335 – Elderseal
It wasn't just the shield—everyone else on the battlefield had also reacted by now, launching a coordinated assault on Altair.
Even Alice, originally part of the Military Uniform Princess's faction, turned against Altair at this moment to assist Celejia and the others in suppressing her.
Charon, the protagonist from the same series as Celejia, still remained on Altair's side, but was currently entangled by Joseph's Hermit Purple, which had wrapped around his magical mecha.
Altair, however, paid no attention to those attacking her.
She couldn't accept what Kairo Retsu had just said about Setsuna.
"You think… hiding in this cage will keep you safe!?"
As she raised her palm, a colossal saber began to emerge from the void, aimed directly at the Shield Prison that Naofumi Iwatani had deployed—clearly intending to crush all three within it.
"Stop!"
Rui Kanoya, piloting his robot—taller than a building—grabbed the massive saber's hilt to stop its descent. But the force behind it far exceeded what his machine could endure.
As he struggled against the saber, his mecha began to overload, and in the end, Rui Kanoya failed to stop the massive blade from falling.
The saber destroyed the Shield Prison almost instantly, but—
There was no trace of Kairo Retsu or the others inside.
"Huh?"
Rui Kanoya blinked, puzzled, and began searching for signs of the group—only to hear a deep rumble from underground.
In just a few seconds, the tremor reached the ground beneath Altair's hovering figure. The next moment, Naofumi Iwatani burst from below, holding a menacing earth-toned shield with horns curved like a demon's, charging toward Altair in the sky.
The Diablos Shield… a shield form unlocked using full Diablos materials. Just like the desert tyrant Diablos itself, this shield wasn't just powerful for charging attacks—it also specialized in tunneling and precise underground tracking.
In that brief instant as he launched skyward, Naofumi grabbed Kairo Retsu by the wrist—and with brute strength, flung him upward like a rocket, sending him hurtling toward Altair.
By the time Altair sensed Kairo Retsu approaching, he was already within meters.
Just as she attempted to ascend to increase the distance between them, she saw Kairo Retsu slam something into the launcher on his left arm and fire it upward.
A blinding light engulfed Altair's vision in an instant, illuminating the area like broad daylight.
An indescribable dizziness surged through her mind, robbing her of the ability to ascend, and she plummeted downward.
To the astonishment of everyone watching, Kairo Retsu reloaded and fired his claw again, striking the falling Altair and tethering the two of them together as they plummeted to the ground.
Without hesitation, Kairo Retsu planted his feet on Altair's body and drew his Great Sword—crafted from Deviljho fangs—and drove it into her.
The impact of the fall, the Great Sword's weight, and Kairo Retsu's raw strength…
All three combined as the pair crashed to the ground, and the blade pierced through Altair's torso.
When Altair finally recovered from the flash-induced dizziness, she realized she had sustained a serious injury.
Why had a mere Flash Bomb inflicted such forced vertigo? Altair had no time to dwell on it. With her injury worsening, she immediately activated causal reversal, attempting to rewrite the cause-and-effect of the event.
Splurt…
With a sound like a balloon being punctured by a knife, a massive wound appeared straight through Kairo Retsu's abdomen—front to back.
Others could clearly see light passing straight through the gaping hole.
Blood poured from the wound, and the Hunter's powerful heartbeat only drove it to spurt out more violently.
"Hunter!"
Celejia's pupils widened—she hadn't expected that despite Kairo Retsu landing such a devastating blow, things would take a turn like this in an instant.
But—
Despite the critical injury, Kairo Retsu didn't collapse. Instead, he gripped his Deviljho Great Sword and violently twisted it inside Altair's body.
The terrifying, jagged weapon tore her flesh as it rotated—and Kairo Retsu's own abdominal wound widened in turn.
And yet…
The one whose face finally twisted in pain—was Altair, pinned to the ground by the Deviljho Great Sword.
"What did you do?!"
Altair stared at him in agony and disbelief.
She had clearly activated Holopsicon and reversed the cause of Kairo Retsu's sword piercing her body—redirecting it to him instead.
The wound in Kairo Retsu's abdomen confirmed Holopsicon had indeed been triggered. So why was she still grievously injured?
Why had Holopsicon's effect been disrupted?
"Hurts, doesn't it?"
Kairo Retsu's face twisted from the pain in his abdomen. Thick veins bulged in his neck, but he still managed a smile: "Feel it—feel the pain! It's the root of nature!"
"When you bare your fangs and malice toward others! Be prepared to suffer pain like this!" Kairo Retsu yanked the Great Sword from Altair's abdomen, leaving behind a wound smaller than his own, but still horrifying.
"This is the essence of life! A link in the endless ecology!" As if the gaping wound in his belly didn't exist, Kairo Retsu slammed the Deviljho Great Sword—named Demon Devourer—down at Altair beneath him: "Elderseal, little girl!!!!"
[Note: Elderseal is a unique ability found on weapons with Dragon Element damage. It can suppress or even completely seal certain special abilities of Elder Dragons. It was introduced in Monster Hunter: World.]
"Get away from me!"
Altair raised her hand and blasted Kairo Retsu back with a sudden shockwave. He was flung violently away—but the wound in her abdomen still hindered her.
She felt a threat.
Not from the fact that Kairo Retsu had hurt her—
But from the power he wielded, which exceeded her understanding. It triggered a faint, unsettling sense within her.
As if something catastrophic was about to happen.
Altair forced herself to ascend to high altitude, hoping to buy time to heal her wounds. But those with flight capability—Celejia, Rui Kanoya, and Alice—immediately took off in pursuit, trying to stop her escape.
Meanwhile, Kairo Retsu—blasted away by Altair—smashed through a giant electronic billboard mounted on a building, his body embedded in the screen. Blood still poured from his abdomen.
Tanjiro rushed to his side immediately, shoving a Max Potion into Kairo Retsu's mouth just in time to prevent a cart.
"It really worked…" Kairo Retsu's mouth twitched from the pain, but he still managed a smile: "No wonder it's a weapon made by Memeiko…"
"Kazuma, speed it up."
Pulling himself out of the electronic display, Kairo Retsu spoke into the gathering's comms: "Before anything unexpected happens… we need to settle this."
"Why is it that every chore-like task gets dumped on me!? And more importantly…"
Kazuma roared over the group voice channel: "Why the hell do I have to sneak around with Aqua to steal some dead girl's ashes or whatever!?"
