MHGA Chapter 332 – Wrath

Kairo Retsu was horrified to realize that this Gore Magala wasn't on the verge of evolving into a true Shagaru Magala…

It had escaped from a Shagaru Magala's territory in a desperate bid to flee from the glittering scales!

The "presence" Altair said was chasing this Gore Magala wasn't the Hunters—it was the real Shagaru Magala, pursuing it to halt its evolution!

Just imagining that a Shagaru Magala capable of constantly releasing Frenzy Virus scales was lurking somewhere in this world sent icy dread shooting up Kairo Retsu's spine.

The true source of the Frenzy Virus across the four worlds was actually the widespread dispersal of suppressive scale powder by Shagaru Magala—its goal being to prevent Gore Magala from evolving. That's why it continually released Frenzy Virus particles… and if Shagaru Magala ever released its full capacity of Frenzy Virus, there was no telling how many would lose their life force and die prematurely as their lifespans were drained.

This particular Gore Magala must have been searching for a place where it wouldn't be affected by those scales—that's why it had been so hard to find.

Clinging to its back, Kairo Retsu noticed that the membranes on Gore Magala's wings had accumulated a substantial layer of scale powder. It hadn't spread the scales at all during its time on the run—clearly an attempt to hide its presence and avoid pursuit by Shagaru Magala.

But… but!

If all four worlds were already saturated with Shagaru Magala's scale powder, then Gore Magala shouldn't have been able to molt. So why were signs of Shagaru Magala's traits already appearing on its body?

"It possesses intelligence of its own. I'll let it weave its own story… in the narrative where I reside."

Kairo Retsu recalled those words from the Military Uniform Princess Altair—and felt like his brain was about to explode.

"Damn it! Damn it damn it damn it!!"

He rose up from Gore Magala's back and brought his Great Sword crashing down onto its spine.

The powerful strike caused the beast to roar in pain and collapse, struggling on the ground to get back on its feet.

But Kairo Retsu didn't seize the moment to continue attacking Gore Magala. Instead, he turned and sprinted toward Altair's direction, shouting over the Gathering Hub voice channel:

"Himmel! Take over Gore Magala! Suppress it as much as you can! This time… we've got a major problem!"

"Understood."

Himmel, who had been assisting in the attack on Altair alongside others, didn't hesitate. After a single clash with Altair, he immediately disengaged and changed direction, heading straight for Gore Magala's location.

"We've got hands free now! Plan change—we're prioritizing taking down Altair!" Kairo shouted. "She has no idea what she's done!!!!"

"..."

At that moment, Tanjiro, who was fighting alongside Rakuro, exchanged a glance with him. Rakuro took over the one-on-one fights near Yuuya, while Tanjiro sprinted toward Altair's battlefield.

Joseph, who had been slacking off using his Stand, suddenly heard Kairo Retsu shout over the voice channel:

"Altair! She used Holopsicon to block the influence of Shagaru Magala's scale powder on Gore Magala! That damn thing is about to evolve!!"

"Wh-What… it's turning into a Shagaru Magala?!" Naofumi Iwatani was startled.

But Kairo was already swearing furiously over the comms: "Hell no it's not! That Gore Magala never escaped the influence of Shagaru Magala's scales!!"

"It's barely holding itself back from transforming into a Chaotic Gore Magala!!" Kairo roared. "Altair has no idea what she's done!!"

By now, Kairo Retsu had already taken Himmel's place and arrived at Altair's location.

Just as he reached the battlefield, the male protagonist of Selesia's story—Charon—piloting the same model of mecha as Selesia, rushed toward him from Altair's side.

But… Kairo Retsu had no intention of being delayed by him.

Charon's magic-powered mecha closed in fast, but then—

Joseph appeared out of nowhere, leaping from a nearby skyscraper onto Charon's machine.

"Sorry, kid," Joseph said, his Stand extending toward the cockpit. "It's my first time seeing the Guildmaster this pissed. Trust me—you don't wanna be anywhere near that."

Vines from his Stand wrapped around the machine's systems. With a violent yank, Charon was shocked to find some of his control systems disabled—and his mech careened straight into a building.

In the rubble and smoke, Kairo Retsu stormed forward.

"Altair! Stop what you're doing to Gore Magala!!"

But her response was a formless strike—an invisible blow from her ability.

Seeing this, Kairo opened his mouth to speak, but what came out was a surge of fury boiling up from deep inside.

Altair, without any understanding of Gore Magala's ecology, had interfered with its natural state using her powers…

Originally, whether Gore Magala failed to evolve into Shagaru Magala or succeeded in escaping the scale powder and underwent full transformation—either outcome would have been a choice dictated by its own natural ecosystem.

Its evolution had been suppressed by Shagaru Magala's scale powder. But Altair's interference had undoubtedly opened the worst possible path for this Gore Magala.

While on its back earlier, Kairo Retsu had spotted several spots already showing signs of transformation—Shagaru Magala's power was beginning to manifest in its body.

Freed briefly from Shagaru's suppression, it began evolving… only to once again be exposed to the scale powder.

If this continued, the Gore Magala would certainly fail—becoming a Chaotic Gore Magala wracked with torment.

Trapped in this agonizing, unstable state—unable to return to its former self, unable to complete its metamorphosis—it would die in a twisted form of suffering.

"Why have I fallen so low? Why can I not ascend? Rejected at the moment of rebirth… I sing of death's destiny. Despair and madness—who can end them?"

Even as a Hunter, Kairo Retsu had always been prepared—whether the source of the Frenzy Virus was Gore Magala or Shagaru Magala, he would eliminate the threat without hesitation.

But Altair—by inserting emotion into an ecosystem she didn't understand—had caused a once-neutral monster to march toward inevitable, unspeakable suffering…

"Your power… is not a justification to disrupt the balance!!"

Kairo Retsu glared up at Altair in the sky, seething with anger. "I will carry out the will of the Hunters—and hunt you here and now, Altair!!"

"Your pitiful, twisted ideology… I will break it and make it right!!"
