MHGA Chapter 328 – Shield Hero's Uragaan Shield
"What the hell?!"
Kairo Retsu, still locked in fierce combat with Gore Magala, heard communication from Meteora and the others through his headset.
They explained in detail that Laios had been knocked unconscious by Gore Magala.
"Laios got knocked out by Gore Magala?" Kairo was baffled.
Thinking back, he recalled that just before Gore Magala ascended, Laios's voice had suddenly cut off—then Gore Magala dove directly at him.
That meant Laios must've discovered something and urgently tried to relay it—only to get knocked unconscious by Gore Magala before he could. And then, instead of finishing Laios off, the monster headed straight for Kairo.
Still fending off Gore Magala, Kairo fell into a speechless daze.
…That was rough.
No one helped wake Laios from his stunned state. Not even the monster went after him. In fact, the moment he was knocked out, the monster changed zones due to the team's attacks.
While everyone else chased the monster on their Palamutes, Laios was left behind—flat on his back, still unconscious…
And now Kairo found himself in the exact same kind of situation—Laios had no cart, but he couldn't move either...
Moral of the story: Stun Resistance Jewel 3 is a must-have.
"How the hell are we supposed to find Laios in all this chaos?!" Kairo shouted in frustration, staring at the massive Gore Magala gathering Frenzy Breath.
The residual Frenzy Virus still in his system was now fueling his desire to fight.
This Gore Magala—for some unknown reason—was absolutely locked on to him, as though they shared some deep grudge.
After stowing his Great Sword and dodging a horizontal wing swipe, Kairo began formulating a battle plan.
Whatever Laios discovered had clearly shaken him. It might be crucial to their current situation. Kairo decided to follow that thread of thought.
On the other hand—he had to get past Altair and take down this Gore Magala.
He looked up to the sky. Up there, the airborne super-powered fighters were battling Altair fiercely.
Only Himmel—fully matured as a Hero—could rely on his raw strength and agility to leap through the air, shifting direction midair off various footholds to launch counterattacks on Altair.
Naofumi Iwatani, too, had become Himmel's most reliable support.
With his analytical mind, and now wielding Kairo's donated shield, Naofumi had unlocked multiple shields using various monster materials—making him the most versatile Hunter on the field.
Though his stats outside defense were still sub-par, the sheer variety of his shields gave him exceptional utility.
"Still hiding your Wrath Shield, Shield Hero? In that case… let's try this."
Altair floated in the sky, conjuring a barrage of swords and knives that fired like machine guns across the battlefield. A gun and military saber hovered beside her like a violin, and as she drew an invisible bow across them, shockwaves of blade energy exploded outward.
Those surrounding her could only rely on their own skills to dodge the wide-area attack.
Himmel swung his sword, releasing shockwaves to clash with hers.
Seregia boosted her mech to widen the gap, reducing the impact force.
Rui Kanoya, who had been pretending to clash with Alice, could hardly dodge in time and had to brace behind the massive frame of his robot.
Just as the giant robot was about to take the brunt, Naofumi slammed his shield and changed forms.
The small Four Cardinal Heroes Shield on his arm suddenly expanded, transforming into a giant wall-like shield that enveloped Naofumi entirely.
The surface of the shield was covered in interlocked, tile-like silver-gray scales. These scales began to swell subtly, and from the gaps between them, glowing red droplets of heat seeped out—layer after layer covering the shield's front.
These blazing droplets were Naofumi's countermeasure.
The shield, forged from copious amounts of Uragaan materials, was currently his strongest counter-type shield.
"Blow it up!!!"
Naofumi smashed his fist into the shield. The impact detonated the first row of explosive scales.
The resulting chain reaction triggered a massive eruption across the shield's surface. Exploding scales shot skyward and detonated again midair, expanding the blast radius.
In an instant, the space in front of Naofumi—tens or even hundreds of meters in both width and height—was covered by shockwave-propelled scale fragments.
This grid of explosive scales—finely tuned by the Four Cardinal Heroes Shield—created a massive anti-attack zone through a wall of reactive shockwaves.
Even Rui Kanoya's robot was protected inside the defensive barrage.
Altair's attack clashed with the scale detonations and triggered a massive chemical reaction.
The chain explosions unleashed by the flying scales, mixed with devastating heatwaves, became a temporary fortress for Naofumi—blasting Altair's shockwaves and blades right back at her.
Altair hadn't expected the previously unimpressive Naofumi to suddenly unleash such a terrifying counter. Before she could activate Holopsicon, she was completely engulfed in the explosive scale field.
A ring of fire and seismic flame.
A flicker of excitement appeared on Naofumi's face.
Massive destructive power housed in extreme defense… always such an intoxicating combination.
Though all the explosive scales were spent in that blast and the Uragaan Shield now needed time to regenerate, it was still proof of Naofumi's growth.
"Holopsicon…"
Just as Naofumi was riding that high, a voice echoed from within the dying inferno.
Naofumi felt a sharp pain in his chest. Looking down, he saw a military saber piercing him clean through the heart.
Altair reappeared in the sky, completely unscathed.
"You deserve praise for your efforts," she said, looking at Naofumi with admiration. "Even without activating your Wrath Shield, you managed to attack me using a clever tactic."
"But letting you fully unleash that Wrath Shield would be troublesome… so I must remove you before you resolve to use it."
She smiled gently. "After all, you've already displayed your peak—surely even the gods will be satisfied."
