MHGA Chapter 294: Anomaly of the Frenzy Virus
"So… you're going to stop Altair too?" Mamika Kirameki asked excitedly. "She's really strong! Don't underestimate her…"
"Don't worry," Kairo Retsu answered with a radiant grin. "Hunters don't just charge into battle. Even the most reckless hunter prepares their weapons and armor, and brings enough medicine before the hunt."
"Now then… let's begin our first plan, so that we'll have enough strength to face the crises in the other worlds." Kairo spread his arms wide. "Step one of our plan begins with…"

Knock knock knock, knock knock knock…
Lately, his son and many others in the neighborhood had fallen ill. Kinomoto Fujitaka was growing anxious.
As a single father, he had to do everything he could to take care of Touya Kinomoto. But Touya's condition was far worse than the other patients in town—and no cause could be identified. Fujitaka was deeply worried.
But then someone suddenly knocked at the door.
When Fujitaka opened it, he was surprised to see Sakura, accompanied by two young men in white coats who looked to be in their twenties. One of them had striking blue hair and a serene expression like that of a wise elder.
"Dad! This is… They're doctors from Tomoyo's family!" Sakura said hurriedly. "They said they have a way to ease the symptoms!"
"Doctors from Tomoyo's family?" Fujitaka looked surprised, but didn't question Sakura. "May I have your names?"
"Hello. I'm Kairo Retsu, a doctor," Kairo said as he shook Fujitaka's hand. "Regarding this current outbreak, we've already conducted some research… Even if Miss Tomoyo hadn't requested it, we would've visited eventually."
"Outbreak? Touya's illness is that serious?" Fujitaka's expression turned grave at Kairo's words.
But Himmel, standing beside him, spoke in a tone that made people naturally trust him: "It's just that this virus is particularly stubborn. Patients have a hard time recovering on their own, which is why we came."
"I see. Well then… please come in." Fujitaka invited them in, and Kairo quietly noted to himself that it was the right choice to bring Himmel with his kind face.
Such a peaceful world. In a more scheming one, it might've taken hours of back-and-forth to gain trust.
After politely declining the tea, Sakura anxiously led the two to Touya Kinomoto's room.
Touya lay on the bed, pale and weak. But as soon as they entered, he groggily lifted his head and looked at the strangers.
"He really is in bad shape…" Kairo raised an eyebrow. "Looks like we'll need to do a proper check-up. May I examine you?"
Kairo sat beside the bed and reached out, but the moment his hand extended, Touya suddenly grabbed his wrist with a fierce grip.
Although it wasn't much compared to a hunter's strength, Kairo was surprised by the unnatural force—it exceeded what a normal human should have.
"You're… not real doctors, are you?" Touya glared at Kairo. "You tricked Sakura—what are you planning?"
"What are you talking about? Of course we're here to treat you," Kairo said without blinking.
"Don't lie. I heard you… There were so many holes in your story at the door." Touya's expression darkened. "What do you want with Sakura…"
"This is a problem." Kairo sighed. "Looks like we'll have to put you to sleep first."
"So I was right…" Touya's eyes glinted red as he lunged at Kairo—but—
Thud!
Touya staggered. In disbelief, he looked back at the one who had struck him.
Sakura stood behind him, holding her magical staff.
He collapsed onto the bed.
Kairo, holding a vial of Sleep Herb extract, froze mid-motion.
"Guildmaster! Can we call Granny Felyne now?" Sakura shouted urgently.
"Uh… Yeah, we can. But you really move fast, Sakura…" Kairo scratched his head.
Originally, the plan was to discreetly use anesthetic during the examination to knock Touya out, and then call in Granny Felyne for a proper diagnosis.
But Touya had caught on quickly—and Sakura had acted even faster. Perhaps it was a sign of her deep concern for her brother…
Once Sakura took up guard by the room door, Kairo formally summoned Granny Felyne from the Assembly to begin the examination.
Granny Felyne quickly ran a full check-up, even pulling open Touya's eyelids to inspect his pupils. Finally, she confirmed:
"It's Frenzy Virus, no doubt. Using Nulberries should suppress the symptoms."
"But isn't this level of weakness a bit too extreme for Frenzy Virus?" Kairo stroked his chin. "Though… the strength he used to grab my wrist was way above normal…"
"That's because of his own body." Granny Felyne explained gently. "His internal power is resisting the Frenzy Virus. The intense consumption is what's weakening him."
"The others in this world with similar symptoms are likely suffering for the same reason." She smiled warmly. "It's just that his power is greater, so the backlash is more severe."
"Oh! I get it! His magic power!" Kairo exclaimed. "I remember now—Sakura's brother has really strong magic! So magic can resist the Frenzy Virus too?"
He suddenly recalled just how powerful Touya was.
Strong enough to see the unseen… and even stop time later on.
After all, in that universe, a vampire who could stop time for five seconds nearly conquered the world.
"But given what's happening now, the Frenzy Virus must've changed due to this world's nature," Granny Felyne concluded. "And I noticed something else…"
"The Frenzy Virus didn't just infect him once. It's like the virus's source is repeatedly releasing scale dust. That… is quite an anomaly."
