After seeing Cherry fast asleep, Gilbert slipped into the bathroom for a second shower. He stayed under the water longer than usual, trying to cool off both his head and the unwanted thoughts running through it.
When he came out, a towel loosely wrapped around his waist, his gaze fell on Cherry. She was curled up on the bed, breathing softly.
He let out a quiet sigh. Damn it. He hated sharing his bed, hated the feeling of anyone invading his space. But the door was locked from the outside, and there was no way he was squeezing himself onto that narrow sofa.
So, he lay down carefully beside her, tugging part of the comforter over himself. But sleep didn't come easy. Not with her scent beside him. Not with that little voice in his head tempting him every few seconds.
It was after midnight when a soft sound woke him.
Gilbert opened his eyes and turned, Cherry was restless, her forehead damp with sweat, her lips trembling.
