Chapter 825: The Betrayal
Selith moved through the carriage.
Nothing was working.
Nothing at all.
The bodies were there.
The blood was there.
The members were there.
Everything they needed had been prepared. Every instruction had been followed. Every step of the ritual had been carried out exactly as it was supposed to be.
So why wasn't it working?
She paced the length of the carriage, her hunched frame casting long shadows against the wooden walls. Her eyes darted from one object to another as her mind raced through every possibility.
She stopped.
Her fingers curled around the edge of the table.
Was Victoria messing with her?
The thought came suddenly.
Then it refused to leave.
Maybe that was it.
Maybe Victoria had never intended to allow the Black Circle to complete the ritual. Perhaps she had only used them to get what she wanted before turning against them.
Selith's lips curled.
Yes.
That could be it.
