At the corner of the street, Si Shu slowly sheathed his Nichirin Sword. His gaze was icy as he walked slowly toward Ijiri. With every step he took, another part of Ijiri's burning body disintegrated. Not only that, but an aura began to emanate from Si Shu's body. It was like the high-hanging sun—scorching, searing, making it impossible to look at him directly.
The moment Hakuji and the others felt this aura, they felt as if they had been dropped into the center of the sun. Although they were not engulfed in flames, they still felt their mouths go dry, and their bodies couldn't stop sweating. Tamayo, who knew Si Shu well, knew that he was furious.
Kneeling on one knee, Hakuji gasped for breath, watching the approaching Si Shu with one eye. He never thought that the usually gentle Si Shu could erupt with such a terrifying aura. The pressure alone felt like it could crush him to death.
By the time Si Shu reached Ijiri, all that was left of his massive demon body was a single head. The bone armor on his head had long since melted from the high temperature, becoming a pool of liquid stuck to it. Looking down, Si Shu could feel the anger and hatred coming from his opponent.
"SI SHU!" Forcibly tearing apart his fused flesh, Ijiri let out a final, furious roar.
The moment he spoke, the charred head was crushed under Si Shu's foot. The fragments gradually dissipated, eventually turning to dust and scattering in the wind. Even so, the aura on Si Shu's body, which felt as if it would melt all things, did not dissipate. Under the pressure of this aura, the weaker Koyuki had already fainted. The slightly better-off Hakuji and Keizo also felt it difficult to breathe, and their faces began to turn blue.
Just then, a cool, slender hand took Si Shu's.
"I'm fine."
The moment he heard that voice, the aura within Si Shu's body rapidly receded, completely retracting into him. A second later, the terrifying aura was gone, as if it had never existed. The formless pressure disappeared, and Hakuji and Keizo looked as if they had just been pulled out of a water tank, completely drenched in sweat.
"You forgot, I'm a demon. I won't be hurt so easily," Tamayo said, holding Si Shu's hands, her gentle words filled with comfort.
Without a word, Si Shu turned and pulled her into his arms. He held her tightly, burying his head in her hair. This was the first time Si Shu had ever treated her like this, and a blush crept onto her cheeks. She gently patted his broad back, as if to comfort him and tell him not to be so tense.
The faint fragrance of Tamayo's hair filled his senses, and Si Shu felt his mood slowly relax. Closing his eyes, he let out a long sigh. "I'm okay now."
When he opened his eyes again, his usual smile had returned to his lips. He let go of Tamayo and said, "You go and check on Koyuki and the others. And treat Keizo's fracture while you're at it."
Tamayo nodded, but as she turned, she couldn't help but look back at him one more time.
"I'm really fine," Si Shu said, waving his hand and scratching his head.
Only then did Tamayo feel relieved and go over to check on Hakuji and the others' injuries.
His eyes narrowing slightly, Si Shu turned and ran back into the town. There were still about twenty demons waiting for him there.
Following the screams, he soon found the first one. It was a demon with the head of a gorilla, covered in black fur, with two large tusks protruding from the corners of its mouth. The moment he saw this creature, Si Shu knew that this was the disciple Hakuji had encountered in his hand-to-hand combat training. Now, he had abandoned his reason and his humanity for the sake of power, becoming a demon that preyed on humans.
Wiping the blood from the corner of its mouth, the gorilla demon extended its tongue, which was covered in barbs. Its large, copper-bell-like eyes were filled with a craving for Si Shu's flesh, a primal instinct. With a loud roar, the gorilla demon charged and threw a punch at Si Shu's face. The corners of its mouth split into a crazed grin; it could already see the scene of its opponent being smashed into meat paste.
The black fist in its vision grew larger and larger, but Si Shu's eyes remained as calm as ever. He extended his arm, his open right palm held vertically in front of him. A large fist and a small palm, completely out of proportion, collided.
The next moment, the gorilla demon's expression twisted in agony. The opponent's palm was like an iron hook, digging deep into its fist. Muscle was pierced, meridians were torn, and bone was shattered. Si Shu's five fingers had dug deep into its flesh, and intense pain shot to its brain.
"AARRGGHH!"
With a painful roar, the gorilla demon threw another punch with its other fist, intending to force him back. But reality was cruel. Si Shu's left hand formed a fist and struck its wrist hard. The immense force was like a heavy hammer, instantly shattering the gorilla demon's left wrist. Flesh and blood splattered, and a hole the size of a fist appeared.
With both its arms crippled, the muscles on the gorilla demon's face twitched uncontrollably, as if a wire had been crossed somewhere. Its mouth opened wide, and its body lunged forward, a foul stench rushing toward Si Shu. It was going to try and eat him whole.
The dark shadow above grew larger, and the cold air from its sharp teeth drew closer. Si Shu could even see the crazed, suicidal look in its eyes. But even so, the expression on his face remained just as cold. His free left hand blurred to his waist, and his Nichirin Sword was unsheathed, becoming a streak of light that passed through the demon's body.
The gorilla demon didn't even have time to react. It just felt a cold sensation, and then nothing. Before it could figure out what Si Shu had done, a burning pain erupted from within its body. It was as if it had swallowed a bomb; a fire instantly exploded from within. High temperature, raging flames, pain, enemy. These four words made up the entirety of the gorilla demon's final moments.
Before it died, a memory from its time as a human flashed through its mind. "There really is always someone stronger."
Its falling body was continuously incinerated, eventually turning into the dust of the world.
After slaying the gorilla demon with one slash, Si Shu did not linger. He headed for the location of the next demon. A demon with protruding tusks, that ran on all fours like a saber-toothed tiger—slain in one slash. A demon with muscular legs and arms that had turned into springs—slain in one slash. An insect demon with a hard carapace covering its body, that could spit poisonous liquid—slain in one slash.
In front of Si Shu, these demonized disciples were as helpless as lambs to the slaughter. One by one, they were all annihilated in a short time.
When Si Shu had eliminated the last demon, six characters carved into the ground caught his attention.
Town outskirts. Large crater. Waiting for you.
The moment he saw the signature, his brow furrowed slightly. Because it had been left by Kokushibo.
