After I agreed to join them, we flew back to their base on top of a bridge before a hatch opened as we descended, with the robot and the others getting off their sky cycles.
"This place is pretty big," I said.
"Yeah, well, I'm sure you're used to being in dark spaces, given how pale your skin is," Rex shot back, nudging me a little, but I held back from punching him into a wall.
Adam Eve elbowed him in the shoulder. "Rex, don't be rude. He's probably sensitive about that."
"I was just messing with him, Eve. Come on." Rex hugged her.
"Well, I'd hate to break up the love pest. Robot can you make me a super suit," I joked, still wearing the clothes I was wearing from my original world, which weren't really meant for fighting.
"I can make something that works for you. We already have a printer that can make any kind of super suit. Who would like one?" he offered.
"Where?" he asked as robot pressed a button, and the wall switch opened to reveal a cylinder-like tube.
"Step inside and picture your costume with as much detail as possible. The machine will take care of the rest," the robot explained. As I went in, I shed my hoodie and jeans, which made the girls look away as my muscles were on full display. I started visualizing what I wanted—a sleek, skin-colored suit, a black hoodie on top, with blue and purple lines running all over. The letter 'S' was on my chest, and I had black and red gloves.
"This feels right," I thought as I felt the new suit take shape.
"The suit is specifically designed to appear using the generative properties of mushrooms. It's also made to help the wearer repair any wounds caused by enemies," the robot said.
"Thanks, man. You're the best," I replied, then went to make a few backup suits just in case, placing my clothes down in the other room.
I checked the date—today was the day I was supposed to get my powers, which meant it took me two days to process all the memories.
"I should probably check on him," I thought, and I teleported outside the Grayson household, staying far enough away so they couldn't see me.
I appeared in the backyard and watched as a window opened. I expected to see a teenage boy but was surprised to see a girl.
*(This one's a girl? Could be, but weird)* I thought, surprised.
She had jet-black hair tied up in a point, brown eyes, and tan skin. She wore a white tank top with a cutout that showed her cleavage, and gray jeans that hugged her hips just right.
At first, she was nervous before taking her first step off the roof. Instead of falling, she floated—thanks to her new flying powers—and soared into the sky. I watched her have fun flying, nearly hitting a plane before she went too high, lost consciousness, and plummeted back down. I caught her as she woke up in my arms.
"You okay?" I asked, looking down.
She blushed big time, embarrassed to be held by someone so handsome.
"Y-yes, I'm fine," she stammered.
"Let me guess—you just got your powers?" I said, setting her down gently.
She nodded. "Yeah, I wanted to see if I could fly."
"Next time, try for a softer landing and don't go too high. You can't breathe in space," I told her.
"I didn't mean to go that high; I just lost control," she explained.
"It's okay. Everyone has moments when their powers don't exactly cooperate at first. Give it some time, and you'll master them," I said, about to leave.
"Wait, can I get your phone number?" she asked. That's right—I didn't have a phone in this world yet, so I'd need to ask Robot about it.
"Sorry, my phone broke. I'll get a new one eventually," I said, feeling a little embarrassed.
"That's okay. What's your name?" she asked.
"My real name's Max Strong, but I go by Sorcerer," I replied, then shot off into the distance.
She watched as I left, heading back home.
The next morning, I went downstairs, and only Robot was there.
"Sorcerer, good morning," he greeted.
"Morning. Anything new? Where's everyone else?" I asked, seeing no one else around.
"Rex exploded, Adam Eve went on a breakfast date, and Dupli-Kate went out on her own," he said.
"Can you help me get a phone?" I asked.
He paused for a moment before replying, "I can build you one. It'll be way better than anything you could buy."
"Sure, why not?" I agreed, knowing he'd probably do it tomorrow regardless—just a simpler way.
Twenty minutes later, he handed me a sleek, high-tech phone.
"This is the most advanced phone ever. You can call off-world if needed. It's linked to To a bank account but I personally I set up in your name which has $10 million in there, so you can buy stuff, and it's indestructible and hacker-proof," he said.
I wasn't expecting him to go all out, but what did I expect?
"Thanks, Robot," I said.
"No problem. Oh, by the way, I wanted to ask you something," he added.
I already knew what was coming, so I pocketed the phone.
"When you fought that monster earlier, it tried to attack you, but it stopped. How did you do that?" he asked, eager for answers.
"It's called Infinity. It's like a force field around my body—the closer something gets, the slower it moves toward me. I can choose to repel whatever gets too close," I explained.
"And what's Dismantle?" he pressed.
"As the name suggests, it's a cutting ability. When I used it earlier, I wasn't at full strength, so I plan to hold back more if I want to be a hero," I said.
"At its strongest, how powerful is Dismantle?" he asked.
"I could probably slice through a country if I really wanted to," I answered.
He took in the info and walked off, probably to tell Cecil what I'd said.
At the GDA, Cecil, watching videos of my first appearance, couldn't help but groan.
"This is going to be a headache," he muttered.
"Have you found anything about him? Birth certificate, family, maybe a space pod he fell out of?" he asked his right-hand man, Donald.
"Sorry, sir, but we haven't found anything. His face doesn't match any in facial recognition databases. It's like he doesn't exist," Donald replied.
"He definitely exists, so he's probably either a lab experiment or an alien—or maybe from another dimension. Not too surprising," Cecil said, sighing as he played the video of my first fight, showing my smirk as I took down the monster easily.
(What is he? And what is he hiding?) he wondered, uncertain about what to do next.
