Chapter 12 - chapter 2: Ash in the wires part 2

---

📁 CHIP DECRYPTION – THE CODE INSIDE

Rafi sat in the deepest part of the shelter, knees hugged to his chest, tablet glowing in the dark.

The chip from the "Ash Whisper" envelope wasn't protected by a password.

It was protected by a question:

> "What's the first lie Shohan ever told?"

Rafi thought hard.

Not about Frame secrets. Not about plans.

About Shohan.

Then he typed:

> "I don't care about anyone."

The screen blinked.

Access granted.

Inside: a scrambled blueprint.

Encrypted file tags:

ARCHIVE-X: MNDLS/PRIME

N-LAYER/09

SPEAKER: ENEMY-TO-ASSET

CARRIER: AR/Ansha

ASSET PROXY: SHH/N

Rafi's pulse raced.

It was real.

The Mindless Project wasn't just AI.

It had human carriers.

Someone Shohan trusted had once been a test subject.

Someone still alive.

---

🧭 LOCATION: SECTOR 9 — FLOODED DISTRICT

He memorized the coordinates embedded in the blueprint and left the shelter at midnight.

No backup.

No plan.

Only a plastic bag with:

The tablet

A flashlight

A cracked taser

And a voice that whispered, "Don't lie."

Sector 9 was submerged after the 'Red Rain' floods.

The power grid was never restored.

No drones flew here.

Only rats. And ghosts.

Rafi followed a pipeline, ducked beneath a fallen monorail, and found the entrance — half-covered in mud, algae, and rusted wire.

He pushed open the door.

---

🧪 THE UNDERGROUND LAB

No lights.

Just blinking red emergency strips along the floor.

He moved slow, careful.

Then — a sound.

Not mechanical.

Breathing.

---

👤 MEETING "THE LAST ASSET"

A woman sat in the center of the lab. Cross-legged. Calm. Hair shaved on one side. Scar over her temple. Wires trailed from her back into a console.

She didn't look up.

> "Shohan's boy," she said softly. "Took you long enough."

Rafi froze.

> "Who are you?"

> "I was the first one they tried to erase," she said. "The first Mindless subject that kept a name."

> "You were a test?"

> "No. I was the lab."

Silence.

She finally opened her eyes — pale, electric white.

> "They called me Ira. But Shohan called me Echo."

---

🧠 ECHO'S TRUTH

> "They built me to listen," Echo said, slowly unhooking the wires.

"To process emotion, eliminate it, and replace it with control."

> "Did it work?"

> "Mostly."

Rafi stepped closer.

> "Are you… like me?"

She paused.

> "No. You're not broken enough yet."

---

🔓 THE CORE DATA

Rafi handed her the tablet.

She plugged it into the console.

Lights flickered. A low hum filled the lab.

Suddenly, a hologram appeared — Shohan's voice, not a message… but a conversation simulator.

A virtual Shohan.

> "You're not here for answers," it said.

"You're here to decide if you're willing to break the world."

> "If you are… start by finding the Ash Node."

> "Ask Echo."

The hologram faded.

---

💣 ECHO'S WARNING

> "The Ash Node isn't a machine," Echo said.

"It's a person."

> "Who?"

> "Someone who survived after the Mindless were activated. A failed memory wipe. A walking black box."

> "Where?"

> "Sector 19. But if you go…"

She stood, expression hard now.

> "The Frames will come for you. And if they don't — Shohan's enemies will."

Rafi didn't blink.

> "Then I'll lie better than they do."

Echo smiled faintly.

> "He taught you well."
