The challenge floor loaded under the rector's seal, and the restored license sat at the edge of the tier in one open hand. It had come back to Jax stripped of the sponsor and the gold that once bought his floors, his wins, and his record.
"One floor now carries the whole week's price," Vasa said, drawing the rule onto the records glass. "A cutter cannot answer a weapon with his arm off the floor, so the only license that walks on is the one Jax just handed back."
Jax weighed the license at the edge of the tier and read the challenge board where the rector had loaded it. A license placed on a challenge floor answered to the outcome, and the outcome here belonged to whoever held the weapon.
"I am the licensed spectator this rule was written for, and I am challenging the disputed grade myself," Jax said, stepping onto the loaded floor. "No sponsor and no gold behind it, and I place my license here against whatever the Hall sends to answer me."
