The examination floor held one reinforced pillar at its center, with a command interface set into the rail where the examiner stood.
Yeda read the interface before she read the pillar. The rector's rooms always hid their weight inside the controls. She had learned that on the last two floors.
Merek set the splint against Nox's arm and kept the torn shoulder off the glass. He had carried the joint through two examination floors already and meant to carry it through a third. The brace had held both times.
"The room grades her cut, not your fists, so keep the arm off the rail and the joint out of the count," Merek said, checking the brace against the splinted shoulder. "I can hold the splint through her trial the same as the last one, but the cartilage Mercy owns stays offline until her claim on you breaks."
The examiner posted the order, and the chamber lit the pillar as its single graded target.
{ Examination order: candidate Yeda.
Task: sever the reinforced target.
