Chapter 134 - Chapter 133: Learning and Teaching — Kahn’s True Purpose

The "good teacher" Kahn mentioned was naturally Iroh.

And the "bad student"… was Azula.

Azula's Firebending talent and intelligence were outstanding—top tier. She could learn most techniques instantly, adapt quickly, and solve nearly any problem.

But that talent also made her arrogant.

She carried a faint disdain toward anything she learned, and because she couldn't calm her heart, she struggled to cultivate Earthbending properly.

Her motivation was also impure. She treated Earthbending as a tool—something to master only for usefulness.

She rarely bothered to understand its deeper theories.

Kahn, on the other hand, had been an ordinary person in his previous life.

After discovering his extraordinary talent in this world, he cherished it deeply and wasn't blinded by pride.

And because his previous world had no supernatural forces at all, he possessed an unmatched fascination with Earthbending.

Those two differences slowly widened the gap between him and Azula as the years passed.

Back then, Kahn had painstakingly broken down and explained his insights to help Azula avoid pitfalls.

But the results were limited. Compared to "boring Earthbending theory," Azula clearly preferred schemes, politics, and power games.

In the end, it was Kahn who benefited the most from analyzing and summarizing the theories.

That was why he jokingly called Azula a "bad student."

Returning to the present.

Since Aang and Katara both approved of Kahn's theory, Aang could technically begin learning Firebending. But Aang looked uneasy.

"Actually… I already learned Firebending from Master Jeong Jeong before, but…"

Aang hesitantly explained what happened.

During training with Jeong Jeong, Aang—being impulsive—generated flame for the first time, immediately got excited, and showed off to Katara.

In the process, he accidentally burned her hand.

Fortunately, Katara's Waterbending healing allowed her to recover instantly.

But Aang carried a deep guilt and developed a psychological shadow around Firebending.

After hearing the story, Kahn blurted, "Good heavens!" then added bluntly:

"You're gutsy. In a Fire Nation Firebending school, you'd 100% get expelled for something like that."

Every Firebender was taught on their first day:

Revere fire.

Jeong Jeong had clearly warned Aang, but Aang obviously didn't take it seriously.

Aang lowered his head in shame. Katara stepped forward to shield him.

"Alright, it's in the past. Aang already understands his mistake. What matters now is how we get him to learn Firebending."

"True." Kahn nodded and smiled at Aang.

"Actually, that kind of unforgettable mistake is useful. At least now you won't dare to be impulsive again."

Aang sighed.

"Well… now I'm afraid to use Firebending at all."

"That is a problem."

Kahn thought for a moment. Aang's fear came from the possibility of hurting someone close to him. The solution was simple:

Make Aang understand he won't hurt him.

Kahn was certain of his own strength, but others wouldn't simply believe his words. He needed proof.

So he asked.

"Do you think we'll run into Fire Nation soldiers soon?"

Aang sighed helplessly.

"I hope our journey goes smoothly… but I doubt it."

Kahn smiled.

"Good. Then we'll wait for the Fire Nation army. We'll start Firebending practice when we meet them."

"???" × 3.

Everyone stared at him, confused. Kahn only smirked mysteriously and changed the subject.

"Anyway—can I learn bending from you two?"

"What??"

Aang and Katara stared at him as if they misheard.

"You want to learn bending… from us?"

Kahn nodded and explained.

"My Firebending has reached a plateau. Even before the Great Banyan Tree summoned me, I planned to travel the world to study different bending disciplines. Learning other forms of bending may give me inspiration."

Finally—Kahn revealed his true intention.

If he just wanted to explore the world, traveling alone would be easier.

The real reason he joined the Avatar Team…

He wanted to learn Airbending.

There were countless Waterbenders and Earthbenders in the world, but only one Airbender left:

Aang.

It was now or never.

Of course, he'd also teach Firebending properly in return.

Aang and Katara exchanged glances. They never expected someone besides the Avatar to want to learn other bending disciplines.

Katara smiled.

"Well, I'm teaching Aang Waterbending anyway. You can learn with him."

"And I can teach you Airbending," Aang offered. "If you want to learn."

Hearing both agree, Kahn grinned, cupped his hands, and bowed jokingly.

"Then I'll be in your care—Master Katara, Master Aang."

The two flushed slightly at being addressed so formally, but couldn't hide the satisfaction.

Katara nudged Aang.

"Speaking of which… someone's been learning Waterbending from me all this time and never once called me 'Master.'"

Aang chuckled sheepishly.

"Thank you for teaching me, Master Katara."

Because Appa needed frequent breaks to rest and eat, their pace remained slow.

After observing Kahn for days and seeing nothing suspicious, Sokka's attitude eased noticeably.

But his pride kept him from apologizing directly, so a subtle awkwardness lingered.

Kahn didn't care. During their breaks, he practiced Waterbending and Airbending with Katara and Aang.

He soon discovered that although Katara had learned Waterbending only briefly under Master Pakku, her talent allowed her to master nearly every application.

But her theoretical understanding wasn't deep enough for what Kahn truly sought.

Still—it was better than nothing.

Aang, however, had been raised in the Air Temple.

He had grown up under the strict guidance of Airbending masters and had even created his own Airbending technique. His theoretical foundation was solid.

Kahn learned a great deal from Aang—just as he had hoped.

After several days, they reached a lively Earth Kingdom town. Hoping to find an Earthbending teacher, they explored the marketplace.

To their surprise, someone was passing out flyers on the street:

"Master Yu's Earthbending Martial Arts Academy! First lesson free!"

The group crowded around the flyer.

Kahn frowned slightly.

"This… looks a little unreliable."

Still, he folded the flyer.

"We're already here. Want to check it out?"
