Chapter 33 - CHAPTER 32: NO ONE CAN DO ANYTHING TO HURT HER

Back at the office, Mr Lorenti looked disappointed when Havila left the room. He still wanted to see her more. He was distracted for several minutes and came back to his senses when he heard the question from his supposedly son-in-law, " You are actually not here for business but to see my wife, right?" He was shocked by his straightforwardness, so he did not answer. Kevelsky nonetheless continued, " You are her father, and judging by your looks, you didn't know previously and just found out a few days ago."

He continued his analysis, "You didn't believe it and came to check on your own. Seeing her, it is now clear to you, and you don't know what to do. I don't know what business you have with her, but she is my wife now, and no one can do anything to hurt her. Judging by her reactions a moment ago, she sensed something, and I'm sure that with her intelligence, she already connected the dots. She's probably hacking you right now to know the whole truth."

No sooner than Kevelsky's words fell, Mr Lorenti's watch chimed with alarm to notify him that someone breached his firewall and was checking his documents. He checked his phone and, true to Kevelsky's words, there was a picture of Havila's mom on the screen. He raised his arm and showed it to Keveelsky, who almost assumed that the picture was his wife's. He looked at the picture tenderly and smiled, realizing that both his children had the same characteristics, but she was a minute faster than her brother. He only said, "You sure know her too well; she has indeed hacked me."

Keveelsky stood up abruptly and grabbed his arm, and asked menacingly, "Why do you have a picture of my wife? Are you stalking her?" Mr Lorenti's smile widened, and he asked back, "Look closely, is she your wife?" That's when Kevelsky noticed the slight difference of five percent in their faces, their eyes, nose, and mouth were not the same as Havila inherited those from her dad. Everything else looked the same as a copycat. He released his wrist and sat down.

He looked him in the eye and asked, "How could you do that to her? You both left her alone at her uncle's house. All this time, she thought she was an orphan and didn't have any family left after her closest kin betrayed her. As a father, how could you do that?" Mr Lorenti took the tissue and dabbed his red eyes and answered, "I didn't know of her existence. I only saw her photo a day ago, and even though I finally found her mother, then I realized she looked just the same as when I last saw her, and I instantly knew she might be her daughter."

His voice was shaking as he continued, "I was happy and I wanted to meet her. I couldn't wait, so I came to see you for collaboration, keeping in mind that you might recognize me given our similarities, and then I might have a chance to meet her." Keveelsky had already calmed down, so he asked, "What do you mean you found out two days ago?" He then answered, "A friend of mine attended a wedding and coincidentally, you two were the best couple, so he took a picture and forwarded it to me."

He slouched down in the chair and said sorrowfully, " I couldn't wait, so I booked a flight and came directly. I had to know the truth, I mean, how could her mom do this to me? I never did anything to hurt her, and she just disappeared on me. I searched everywhere in vain, then nine months later, a newborn baby was delivered to my doorstep with her signature on it and a bank account to transfer the money and with instructions to never see her again."

He said all these in tears and removed a letter from the inner coat and passed it to Kevelsky. He saw the contents of the letter but kept quiet as this was not his battle. Havila had to solve it herself, and he could only be there for her, no matter her decision. He couldn't help but ask, " After all these, couldn't I find her and ask her in person?" Mr Lorenti said, " I did everything within my power, but I just couldn't find her. After confirming the DNA and finding out that he was indeed my son, I searched everywhere for her to no avail. I didn't even know I had a daughter."

He inhaled deeply and continued, "One day, just as I found out about Havila's existence yesterday, another friend of mine who comes from this ends sent me a picture of a tombstone with her picture on it. I couldn't believe everything, so I went there to see for myself, and indeed, there she was dead and all alone, her death date and the children's birthdays were the same, meaning she died a few hours after childbirth." He then knelt and cried for ten good minutes. Keveelsky didn't know what to do; he could only give him a warm towel to wipe his face with.

Keveelsky was not expecting the tea anymore so he drew warm water from the dispenser and gave it to Mr Lorenti. He gulped down the water and his throat felt better so he continued, " I couldn't believe everything that my ila had died just like that so i went to the hospital where she delivered and what i found there shocked me. There was no history of twin delivery neither was there a male delivery on the gender box as it clearly indicated female. She had prepared two names beforehand, a girl's and a boy's so the nurses filled the notification for her."

"What broke my heart further was that she died thirty minutes post delivery due to hemorrhage. The book showed that she had a history of depression and that caused everything. I did not look for Havila because i thought they made a mistake at the gender box for i already had a son at home and he had the name we had chosen back then. I thought someone deliberately altered the information from male to female after i sent the money."
