Claude only nodded and turned to Len, who kept his smile. The former moved to find a better view of Irving. "What happens to him now, Len? Eugene wants to visit him."
Len stopped stroking Irving's head. "I'd ask him to wait for a few more weeks. An Alpha's infection settles differently for everyone. Irving's mother grew sickly and barely survived for a decade. Since he lived for so long without Dad's blood, he might suffer just the same. Still, it has to be done. If I want him to live longer, I have to forsake his future."
The smile on Claude's lips dropped into a flat line. He turned to Irving again. "For some reason, I feel like Irving won't have it any other way. He surely wants to see Eugene again. And you… his new family."
"Aren't you afraid to get demoted in the eyes of the council?" Verena chuckled and shook her head. "They will see another son of the Ghost."
