Chapter 16 - We meet again.

The world felt like it had sunk for a second time. Despite the chaos within the city, it felt as much of as a dead town as it had prior. The only sound of screaming drifting from the heart of the city, the cleaner side. Perhaps Mira had always expected that, but it felt oddly unnatural. Tonto's grip on her wrist was bordering painful, was she afraid? Worried? Mira wasn't sure. Mira's breath came in ragged exhales as they rushed forward. Tonto wasn't doing much better, it was quite the distance to get from one side to the other. There was no sign of Galadriel or Koro, neither of them were around, did they already rush over there?

As they closed in on the source of the noise, Mira just couldn't shake this feeling in her gut, like something was off. Pieces of rubble scattered across the street, some lodged into the ground, some into the side of buildings. The closer they got, the more pieces lay scattered. Amidst all the rubble stood a lone person. Not Galadriel nor Koro. Mira felt a shiver, they had a feeling they knew who it was, what this was about.

"Ah.. So it really was you who I kept hearing about, digging your nose where you're not supposed to." That low, slightly raspy and full of distain sounding voice. All too familiar, always directed at Mira with what seemed like a pile of hatred. "I told you, didn't I? I told you not to show your filthy existence before me again." The cloaked person looked back, the hood over their head covering any hint of their face. Long robes to hide most hints of anything that could give them away, leather gloves. "You disgust me, all of you do. How.. How can you stand next to her? How can you act like that repulsive feeling isn't there? How can you-!"

"Are you done?" Tonto suddenly cut them off. Her voice was sharper than Mira had ever heard it, cold and distant. Her grip on Mira's wrist tightened ever so slightly before she fully let go, leaving marks of where her fingers had dug into the flesh beneath. "So what? What if that feeling is there? What difference does it make? You're-"

"What do you know?! You don't get it.. She.. She.." Their hands flew up underneath the hood, as if they were dragging them across their skin. A pause, a moment and then they straightened out. "Filth, even if you do not remember your actions, even if you think you can get away with what you did, you won't. I'll force you to play all your cards and then? I'll make sure you rot away and death lay claim to you. I'll make everyone see what you truly are. You don't belong here."

A flash of something between the persons fingers, in a sudden rumble the ground tore open as the root like tentacles erupted from the ground. Slithering along the ground like oversized snakes, they tore up the pavement heading towards the duo. Tonto stepped forward, adjusting her gloves, before swinging forward, the metal meeting the root stopping it dead in its tracks. Zigzags of tearing spread across it, wood like chunks hitting the ground with a light clatter. The second one tore past Tonto, straight for Mira. Only a moment to react as her blade already met the oversized thing, slicing cleanly through the middle of it, carried by its own forward movement. The cloaked person let out a soft laugh, they were levitating slightly above the ground. "Last time you could barely defend yourself, look at you now. Though, you did defeat them in the end didn't you, showing your true colours for only a moment. What's with that expression? Oh, you don't remember, do you?" With a swift move of their hand another set of root like tentacles erupted from the ground, followed by larger ones with a more plant like look to them. A seam running down the middle of them in a cross shape that opened into a large cavity, rows of sharp needle like stems poking out, certainly far larger than normal needles. Two charge at each of them, Tonto steps forward catching the first one, metal meeting wood, about to deliver the same fatal attack. But the second one rips straight for her, sending debris flying, its sharp needle like teeth all open for sight, they're green, matching what the whole thing is made of. Tonto jumped backwards, a sudden sharp hit was delivered to her side sending her tumbling towards the rubble. Mira was about to open her mouth, but the two on her were heading straight for her. Her foot dug into the ground as she forced herself to the side of the root like one, splitting it in half in to two pieces with a swift move of her blade. Its lifeless carcass flopped to the ground. Mira's free hand found the ground as she dug into the pavement, pulling herself forward, building moment as the other one barely missed her. Her blade come down on it, splitting it in half, body moving on pure instinct. It falls lifeless to the ground.

Mira rushed towards Tonto, who had forced herself up, splitting the other root tentacle like before. A low rumbling echoed from behind Mira, she had expected another set of the same tentacle like things. The two pieces of the plant one spasmed on the ground. Fibber regrowing, not to connect, but to regrow their missing pieces, creating two sets of each other, large and towering. Tonto delivered a few powerful blows to the one heading for it, splitting it apart into three uneven pieces. Mira didn't have the time to warn her as the her body moved faster than she could think, sliding across the ground dodging the two after her. The large things flying over her, digging back into the ground. Their body heading forward, the same sharp needle like teeth protruding from its under body, Mira rolled to the side as sets of them lodged themselves into the ground, dragging along as the things moved forward. There were five of them now, the one Tonto had destroyed had already reformed itself into three new copies of itself. As Mira dragged her body to dodge the next attack, a sharp sudden pain shot through her left calf. "Who said I'd stand around and watch" A sharp raspy voice cut through the air as a similar oversized needle had pierced through Mira's left calf and dug itself through the ground, leaving a gaping hole running through the muscle. Mira's step faltered, pain shooting through her leg. "Yes, it's what you think it is, filth." Mira couldn't feel her leg, the numbness was spreading upwards. The large plant had opened its seems, hundreds of needles. It tore towards Mira, ready to swallow the other woman whole. Needle meeting skin.
