Chapter 363 - Chapter 363: Source of Power

Chapter 363: We Witchers Have Our Own Source of Power

After Tissaia walked away, a tiny figure rushed out of the crowd and flew into Lynn's arms like a swallow returning to its nest. She whined in a soft voice, "Lord Lynn!"

Everyone looked on with affection. It was clear that Kassia had become very beloved during her time at Kaer Morhen.

"Kassia!" Lynn returned the hug, then lifted her, spun her around a few times, and finally set her down. "Hmm, you've grown taller and you're even prettier."

Kassia beamed, a blush spreading across her pale face like a ripe red apple. Lynn stroked the girl's snow-white hair, and she closed her eyes, enjoying the attention like a kitten.

"You were in seclusion for so long; are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?"

"What does 'seclusion' mean?"

"It means you and Lady Yennefer stayed in the tower for so long without coming out."

Kassia let out a little "oh," then shook her head, her bangs swaying. "No, no, Kassia isn't hungry. Lady Yennefer always prepares enough food and water for every session. But I'm very happy that Lord Lynn thought of me."

Yennefer walked over. As she looked at Kassia, the cold, glacial expression she usually wore gave way to a rare hint of warmth. "This child was constantly talking about you over the past few months, even in her sleep."

Kassia's face got even redder. "Teacher Yennefer!"

It was always a good thing to be loved, especially by such a sweet child. Lynn had worked in a kindergarten for a while in his past life. He genuinely liked children, and they liked him. When he resigned, they even gave him farewell gifts.

Lynn suddenly had an idea. "Then, before your next special training begins, let's go on an adventure deep into the Blue Mountains together." He had planned to take Mossack to look at the land he was interested in soon anyway. It would be perfect to bring the little girl along. With his current strength, even if the depths of the Blue Mountains hid leshens or ice giants, they were no match for him; he would simply crush them.

Hearing this, Kassia's pale face filled with irrepressible joy. "Really?"

"Of course, it's real." Lynn couldn't bear to tease such a cute child.

Immediately, the girl turned to the sorceress with anticipation. "Teacher Yennefer, can I go?"

If it had been any day before today, Yennefer might not have agreed. But after personally witnessing Lynn's incredible power, she tacitly agreed. "Just don't forget to come back and continue your training."

Kassia cheered. "Yay!"

Yennefer nodded. "Since you'll be traveling soon, Kassia, go get your things ready. You don't want to make your Lord Lynn wait, do you?"

The girl nodded enthusiastically. "I'll go get ready, Lord Lynn!" With that, Kassia excitedly ran off. Those standing around quickly cleared a path for her, and George kindly reminded her, "Slow down, don't fall!"

Yennefer watched Kassia leave, then turned her gaze to the others. "Gentlemen, you wouldn't mind if a lady borrowed your leader for a moment, would you?"

Seeing that Yennefer had something to discuss with Lynn, the others all excused themselves.

"Lady Yennefer, are you here to talk to me about Kassia? Lady Tissaia already told me she has the potential to become a sorceress."

"It seems she didn't reveal too much. Come, let's find a quiet corner."

The two left the training ground and ascended a tower. From there, they could look down on the distant, hazy mountains, where the sky met the peaks to create a beautiful vista. Although winter hadn't arrived yet, the wind on the tower was fierce.

"This is quiet enough, but you don't really need to be this cautious. Everyone in the castle can be trusted."

"I know, but it's better to be cautious about certain things, especially what I'm about to tell you."

Lynn gestured for her to speak. "I'm listening."

But Yennefer didn't speak right away. She seemed to be still hesitating about whether to tell Lynn.

Lynn waited for a moment. Noticing her hesitation, he smiled. "Lady Yennefer, if you haven't made up your mind, we can go back down. I don't have to pry into every secret."

"...Forget it. Even if I don't tell you, you'll find out eventually." Yennefer closed her eyes, a look of helplessness crossing her face. "Alright, the truth is... Kassia doesn't just have the potential to be a sorceress, she's actually a Source."

Lynn froze instantly. "Wait, a Source?"

Of course, he knew what a Source was. In this world, most people were ordinary; they would never sense the existence of chaotic energy and would never learn magic. Only a few could vaguely perceive the subtle chaotic energy in the air, and these people had the potential to become sorcerers after training.

But there was a tiny minority in this world who were born with powerful magic. They needed very little effort to become what others saw as "geniuses." Such people were Sources. And Sources, without exception, could all become extremely powerful sorcerers.

"Even by the standards of a Source, Kassia is very special."

Lynn immediately grew tense at Yennefer's words. "In a good way, or a bad way?"

"A good way."

Lynn finally relaxed.

Yennefer continued, "As you know, Sources are very sensitive to chaotic energy. Using it is as easy as breathing and drinking for them, but before systematic training, they can unconsciously cause destruction to their surroundings. For example, setting a barn on fire, or making the glass walls of a reptile house disappear... these are the 'masterpieces' of untrained Sources who don't know how to control their power."

Lynn saw Yennefer pause here and asked, "So?"

Yennefer cleared her throat. "Kassia's uniqueness lies here: even though she awakened her Source abilities a long time ago..."

"Even though she's been able to perceive chaotic energy for a long time..."

"She can control her power."

Lynn couldn't help but gasp. This girl is truly terrifying.

In his past life, Lynn was an avid reader. He had read countless Western fantasy novels. In the heroes depicted by Western writers, the most crucial thing wasn't whether they had great power, but whether they could control that great power. The spiritual anguish of Western heroes often stemmed from their inability to control their excessive power, leading to harm to innocent people.

"But in Kassia's own words, chaotic energy is like different colors on a palette to her."

"'How can colors hurt anyone?'"

"Therefore," Yennefer continued, "barring any unforeseen circumstances, the heights Kassia will reach in the future may very well surpass Tissaia and even reach the level of a legendary sorceress like Alzur."

Lynn had never married in his previous life, so he had no descendants. But the feeling of a father hearing his daughter was admitted to a top university was probably similar to what he felt now. Lynn had never expected Kassia to achieve great things. He only hoped she could live a happy, safe, and smooth life in the nation he would build. That was enough.

But now... A Source? An extremely special Source?

He could already foresee that the storms surrounding Kassia in the future would be anything but few. Sources were already extremely rare, let alone one so unique. There would certainly be many who would covet Kassia.

But Lynn would not make the same foolish mistake as Thomas Moreau. The saying goes, "With great power comes great responsibility," but only those Western "White Left" who thought goods appeared on shelves were foolish enough to voluntarily give up powerful abilities out of fear of responsibility. You could never give up power.

If Kassia's future was destined to be stormy, then he would stand in front of her and cut down those storms for her.

Yennefer suddenly smiled. "Just a second ago, I was worried about whether telling you about Kassia's ability was a mistake."

"Because what you are trying to achieve is a feat no witcher has ever accomplished, and perhaps no witcher will ever accomplish after you. The path you are taking is bound to be a painful, thorny one. Countless people will die because of your decisions, and even if you ultimately achieve your ideals, your feet will be covered with a mountain of corpses."

"I don't want you to use Kassia as a pawn for your ambition, but you are her guardian, so I shouldn't keep it secret."

The witcher quietly listened to the sorceress. He said, "But?"

"But the expression on your face just now tells me you will not force Kassia to do anything she doesn't want to do, and that you will protect her." The sorceress looked into the witcher's eyes and said, "Lynn, I hope you won't prove me wrong."

"I promise you, Lady Yennefer, I will never force Kassia to do anything she doesn't want to do."
