Chapter 148 - messing with the kids

After sending Bakugo flying away for what was probably the fifteenth time, Mewtwo noticed something from the corner of his eye.

Midoriya.

The green-haired boy was hiding behind a couple of bushes nearby, furiously writing something inside a small notebook while glancing between him and Bakugo.

At that sight, Mewtwo's eyes glowed immediately.

Without warning, he used his telekinesis on Midoriya and lifted him straight into the air.

"Wha—?!"

Before the boy could even react—

Mewtwo threw him directly at Bakugo, who at that exact moment was charging forward once again with explosions blasting from his palms.

CRASH!

The two boys smashed directly into each other.

Forehead against face.

Mouth against mouth.

Nose against nose.

Both of them immediately bounced backward and hit the ground.

Bleeding from the nose.

And mouth.

For a second, silence dominated the training field.

Then Mewtwo noticed exactly how they had collided.

Both boys had pale expressions.

And both of them instantly started spitting at the ground aggressively in complete shame.

"...Oh."

Mewtwo blinked once.

"I think I fucked up a little."

Still—

Despite himself—

He found it hilarious.

Sure, both of them were probably going to hate him for this.

But honestly?

Maybe that was useful too.

"Well," Mewtwo thought while trying not to laugh.

"Anger can work as fuel."

And he was right.

Immediately, Bakugo slowly lifted his head.

The expression on his face was pure rage.

Not annoyance.

Not irritation.

Real murderous fury.

"You motherfucker…" Bakugo growled.

"I'LL KILL YOU!"

Without hesitation, he thrust both arms forward.

A massive explosion erupted from his palms and shot directly toward Mewtwo.

BOOOOOOM!

The blast was far larger than the previous ones.

The sheer heat distorted the air around it.

Seeing that, Mewtwo finally smiled slightly.

"That's what I'm talking about."

The explosion was too large to casually redirect with telekinesis alone.

But—

It still wasn't truly dangerous for him.

A translucent barrier formed instantly around Mewtwo.

The flames crashed against it violently and expanded in every direction, surrounding the glowing psychic shield completely.

The ground trembled.

Smoke spread everywhere.

Yet inside the barrier—

Mewtwo remained perfectly still.

Calm.

Untouched.

To him, the entire attack was more amusing than threatening.

At the same time, he sent a telepathic message directly into Midoriya's head.

"I won't let you slack off, kid."

Midoriya froze immediately.

"Attack."

A brief pause followed.

"I'm bored."

Then Mewtwo's glowing eyes sharpened slightly behind the barrier.

"And if you don't…"

The pressure in the psychic message intensified.

"I will."

Another pause.

"And trust me, you don't want me to attack you."

As the flames from Bakugo's explosion slowly receded, the translucent barrier became visible once more.

And behind it—

Only Mewtwo's glowing figure could be seen floating there in absolute calm.

Above all else—

He looked intimidating.

Midoriya, in pure panic, activated One For All.

Immediately, green lightning started crackling violently around his body.

The air itself trembled slightly from the sudden burst of power.

At that moment, Bakugo glanced toward him with clear resentment.

However—

For once—

He didn't say anything.

His attention immediately returned to Mewtwo.

Meanwhile, Mewtwo looked more curious than threatened.

Actually—

Interested was probably the better word.

Mentally, he spoke to both of them.

"That's a hell of a quantity of energy."

His glowing eyes focused directly on Midoriya.

"And not only that…"

For a brief moment, Mewtwo analyzed the energy flowing through the boy's body.

"…it's almost on par with me when I use Calm Mind."

That realization surprised him slightly.

This kid possessed absurd raw power.

At least in terms of pure output.

However—

Mewtwo immediately noticed another problem.

A very obvious one.

Midoriya's body couldn't handle it.

Not even close.

His physical base simply wasn't strong enough yet.

The energy flooding through him was excessive for his current condition.

It was like pouring a river into a glass.

"Kid," Mewtwo's voice echoed mentally once again.

"You wanna kill yourself?"

Midoriya flinched.

"Why the hell are you using the full output of your power when you clearly can't manage it?"

Midoriya's expression immediately turned confused.

And that alone told Mewtwo enough.

"You seriously don't know what I'm talking about?"

Mewtwo sighed.

Then continued explaining.

"The energy you see around me right now?"

He gestured lightly toward his own glowing aura.

"That's only part of my total output."

His psychic aura flickered calmly around his body.

"I'm controlling it."

A pause.

"It would be stupid to constantly go all out."

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"No one does that."

Then he gave an example.

"When you grab a glass of water…"

"Do you use your full strength?"

Midoriya blinked.

Bakugo frowned.

"No, right?" Mewtwo continued.

"You only use a fraction of your strength."

Another pause.

"But right now, you're using your full power just to stand still."

The psychic pressure around him intensified slightly.

"That's ridiculous."

Mewtwo crossed his arms.

"It's like trying to lift a pebble with the strength needed to move a mountain."

Midoriya's eyes widened slowly.

And for the first time—

Something clicked in his head.

"Look," Mewtwo said.

"This is what would happen if I did what you're doing."

At that instant—

Mewtwo released more of his psychic energy.

And activated Calm Mind.

BOOOOOM!

The aura around his body exploded outward violently.

It flared like psychic fire.

The pressure instantly multiplied.

Bakugo and Midoriya were both thrown backward by the shockwave alone.

Neither of them even had time to react.

The ground cracked beneath Mewtwo.

Chunks of rock lifted into the air.

The pavement shattered outward around him while invisible waves of force spread through the entire training ground.

Even the nearby trees bent slightly under the pressure.

Mewtwo simply floated there at the center of it all.

Calm.

Untouched.

Like the source of a natural disaster.

Midoriya immediately understood what Mewtwo meant.

And above all else—

He panicked.

This student…

This third year…

Was only demonstrating his power.

Not even attacking.

And yet the pressure alone already felt overwhelming.

"Both of you, get a hold of yourselves. Villains won't care that you're students, so start acting like fighters and not children throwing tantrums," Mewtwo's voice echoed directly into their minds, calm, cold, and heavy with pressure.

"Use that adrenaline properly. Don't let it control you. Blondie, stop wasting movements and attack with efficiency. Green one, use the example I gave you. Lower the output. Use only what your body can handle and attack with that."

At that moment, Mewtwo lowered his aura back to the level he had before. However, things were different now. He had already used Calm Mind, meaning every movement of psychic energy around his body was now denser, more refined, and vastly more efficient than before. Even while suppressing himself, the pressure surrounding him remained overwhelming for the two first years.

Still, this was technically training, and one of them was supposed to be under his mentorship.

To his surprise, Midoriya reacted immediately.

The lightning around the green-haired boy weakened. Instead of violently exploding from his arms like before, it now flowed in a more controlled manner, concentrated and thinner. Mewtwo could instantly feel the difference with his psychic senses. The energy was still immense, absurdly so, but now it wasn't tearing through the boy's muscles with the same savagery as before.

However, Mewtwo immediately frowned.

"You're still an idiot," he said bluntly. "Do you fight using only your arms, or your entire body?"

Those words hit Midoriya harder than any attack.

His eyes widened.

Immediately, he understood.

Instead of concentrating all that monstrous energy only into his fists, he needed to distribute it. Through his legs. His torso. His entire frame. If he spread the burden, maybe his body wouldn't destroy itself every single time he attacked.

Before Midoriya could even thank him, Bakugo attacked again.

The blonde launched himself through the air using an explosion from one arm, while the other pointed directly toward Mewtwo's face.

"DIEEEEE!"

This time, Mewtwo didn't use Barrier.

Instead, his tail suddenly glowed with metallic light.

Iron Tail.

The white tail swung with terrifying speed and precision, striking directly against the center of Bakugo's explosion. The blast dispersed instantly, split apart by raw force before it could even spread properly. In the same movement, the tail slammed against Bakugo's arm and side, sending him spinning violently through the air.

Bakugo bounced twice across the ground before crashing face first into the dirt again.

At almost the same instant, Midoriya moved.

This time, instead of focusing everything into his arm alone, he let the energy flow throughout his body. Green lightning cracked around him as he propelled himself forward with vastly improved speed and balance.

His fist shot toward Mewtwo's face.

However, Mewtwo didn't even bother turning his head.

Midoriya suddenly froze midair.

His fist stopped barely an inch away from Mewtwo's face, trapped by invisible psychic force. Midoriya's eyes widened in panic before, without warning, his body was violently redirected sideways.

Straight toward Bakugo.

The blonde had just recovered and looked upward in confusion before Midoriya crashed directly into him. The impact sent Bakugo spinning through the air once again before both of them slammed into the ground together in a tangled mess.

Bakugo spat dirt out of his mouth and immediately roared in fury.

"MOTHERFUCKER! YOU'RE PLAYING WITH US!"

"Of course I am," Mewtwo answered without even trying to deny it. "And yet you still keep attacking. That alone says enough."

He slowly descended a little through the air, psychic energy crackling faintly around his body while he looked down at them.

"You two still lack the strength, the experience, and the finesse to fight someone truly dangerous outside your own class," Mewtwo continued. "Right now, against a real villain, both of you would already be dead."

Bakugo clenched his fists hard enough to draw blood from his palms.

Midoriya remained silent, breathing heavily while trying to process everything.

"Now," Mewtwo said, crossing his arms, "you can either keep complaining about it… or start thinking."

He pointed directly toward Bakugo first.

"What do you do against an enemy stronger than you? Someone that doesn't care about your screaming? Someone you can't overpower head-on?"

Bakugo gritted his teeth but stayed silent for once.

Then Mewtwo pointed toward Midoriya.

"At least the green one is trying to think despite being weaker."

That sentence immediately made Bakugo's expression twist with rage again.

Meanwhile Midoriya blinked in surprise.

Because for the first time since meeting Mewtwo…

It almost sounded like praise

A praise that did not last long, because once again Mewtwo's voice echoed directly inside their minds, calm, heavy, and impossible to ignore.

"Now then… what would both of you do against a long-range attack from someone stronger than you?"

At that moment, Mewtwo casually waved one hand in front of his face. Instantly, four shining stars of psychic energy materialized around him, glowing with a pale blue light. They floated in the air for a second, humming with power, before Mewtwo flicked two fingers forward.

Immediately, two stars rushed toward Midoriya while the other two shot straight at Bakugo.

Both of them reacted differently.

Midoriya immediately turned and ran, using the enhanced speed of One For All to create distance. However, after only a second, his eyes widened in surprise when he noticed the shining stars changing direction behind him.

They were following him.

"Homing attacks?!" thought Midoriya in panic.

The stars zigzagged through the air with terrifying precision, adapting to every movement he made. Realizing he could not simply outrun them, Midoriya quickly grabbed nearby rocks from the broken ground and hurled them toward the incoming attacks.

However, the stars simply curved around the projectiles without slowing down at all.

"They can track targets and avoid obstacles too?!"

At that moment, Midoriya changed tactics again. Instead of trying to escape, he suddenly slammed his foot against the ground, breaking apart a larger chunk of concrete. Grabbing the massive piece with both hands, he swung it directly into the incoming stars.

BOOM!

The psychic attacks exploded violently on impact, shattering the concrete into pieces and generating a shockwave that pushed Midoriya backward several meters. Even so, he managed to regain balance and land on his feet instead of falling.

Meanwhile, Bakugo chose a completely different approach.

Of course, instead of retreating, he charged directly toward the attacks.

"GET LOST!"

Using his explosions to propel himself forward, Bakugo blasted toward the two shining stars and detonated explosions directly against them.

BOOOOM!

The attacks exploded in front of him, but unlike Midoriya, Bakugo tried to overpower them head-on. The result was immediate. Even if he destroyed the stars, the explosion still consumed him in the process, sending him flying backward through the air before he crashed roughly against the ground once again.

Dust rose around him as he clicked his tongue in irritation.

Mewtwo observed both reactions silently for a moment before finally nodding slightly.

"Good."

His glowing eyes moved between the two boys.

"The green one analyzed the attack and adapted."

Then his gaze moved toward Bakugo.

"And blondie chose destruction through brute force. Effective, but wasteful."

Bakugo immediately snarled hearing that.

"Shut the hell up—!"

However, Mewtwo ignored him completely.

"What matters is understanding your enemy. A stronger opponent won't just stand there waiting for you to punch him. They will attack from angles you don't expect, pressure you mentally, force you to move, force you to think."

As he spoke, Mewtwo slowly descended until his feet touched the broken training ground.

"Now then…" said Mewtwo while his tail slowly moved behind him.

"Let's see how the two of you fare in close combat."
