It took Li Xinlian a week to scrub the articles. Feng Yilan had stayed quiet, which helped — no public statements, no social media, nothing that could give the story new oxygen. Li Xinlian had called in old contacts, pressured editors, and waited for the news cycle to move on. It did. It always did, eventually. She was still furious. But she was also practical.
That was one problem taken care of, or at least contained.
Feng Suyin had others.
Three days, and the twins' parents were still nowhere. The private investigator she'd hired couldn't get anything useful out of them. They answered questions about their own names, their own nicknames, their ages. Everything else: their parents' names, their address, the hospital their father was in. Those they either didn't answer or claimed not to know. The investigator had concluded, diplomatically, that the children knew more than they were saying.
Feng Suyin had reached the same conclusion on day one.
