The hospital cafeteria was quieter than the corridors. They'd circled the floor twice asking staff if anyone recognized the twins. No one did. Feng Suyin decided to stop moving and think.
She bought two cups of warm milk and a plate of plain biscuits from the counter, paid, and carried everything to a table by the window. The twins climbed into the chairs across from her, masks still on, and she pushed the plate toward them.
Yilin held her milk with both hands like it was warming them. Yuxuan ate without looking at his food, mechanically, one biscuit at a time. Neither of them spoke.
They'd been watching her since the corridor. Both of them.
"Is there something on my face?" she asked.
Yilin's eyes dropped to the table. Yuxuan looked away. Then Yilin said, very quietly, "You remind us of Mommy."
Feng Suyin set her phone down.
