Chapter 145 - Grandmaster

Yamato glanced over at the woman as his turn was once again, grabbing the dice as it had become almost routine by now.

"I've been wondering… Aa creator of the game, you would know all the special card effects already, no? That seems a bit unfair, if you ask me. Given that the rules kept that section specifically vague, one could assume you were trying to give yourself a little advantage."

"Can you prove I am cheating in any way? Because if not, you will have to trust my word that the effects are randomized alongside the position on the field."

"I suppose I will have to trust you then…"

Yamato spoke calmly as he rolled a 6 and 1, moving to space eleven and taking the lead with yet another card effect for him. However this one was, like his first, a negative one, subtracting his total remaining 25 points by 7. He displayed the card publicly, appearing as if just frustrated and not to be bothered to cover it up.

"Ooh, that stings. But hey, rolling high just isn't always lucky. Too bad for you, I suppose."

Yamato remained silent, stepping back form table and letting Yuki step closer. She slowly took the dice, and nothing else just like before. Her new dream space being soace eleven, naturally. Meaning she needed to roll a 4 to move from seven to eleven, which was annoyingly just as likely as rolling a 5 or 6, however she was a true believer. Aside from being a believer, she was also a skilled gambler if it came down to it. And as such, she was able to roll dice in a way that certain numbers would be more likely than others. A skill which she had used the first round, but did not work out so well in the second. But she was confident in her ability to pull it off once again in the third. So she rolled her dice, actually rolling a 4 and 1, resulting in 4 of course and moving her to space eleven together with Yamato. Being reunited naturally flooded her heart with pure joy, although it was somewhat cheated and not sole fate, who kept count anyway? Though it became slightly awkward for Bronelli and the woman, as Yuki jumped into Yamato's arms and began kissing him rapidly, causing both to avert their eyes away from them and onto the board where Bronelli rolled his dice. Rolling a 4 and 1, he finally made some progress and moved from space two to six, though that meant mo card for him.

"This doesn't seem to be my kind of game…"

"Only a fool would forfeit in a game of chance, but if you want to give up anyway and spare yourself some humiliation later on, go ahead."

The woman said smiling as she grabbed the dice, throwing them up high into the air and catching them again. Bronelli did not see a reason for this action, and chose to ignore it. After that she rolled her dice, and received a 5 and 3, rounding to 2 and landing her on space ten. She smiled as she revealed the card she had drawn, flipping it elegantly in her hand for everyone to see. It was a special effect, which unlike Yamato's, seemed to effect every player.

"Would you look at that… "All item costs are doubled for the next five rounds"… In other words, if you don't already posses a murder weapon, that's completely off the table for now. Protecting will be roughly a third of ones total points at this stage of the game… And of course, movement now costs 2 points… For someone who is already on the lower end of points, like our little god over here, this should be quite troublesome, no?"

"…I suppose it was a mistake to show my negative effect card, I was careless. Though it was arguably just unlucky, and whether I changed it or not would not have changed a thing."

"I could just leave that in the room as is, but you should know that I previously drew a special card that made it so every time I show a card effect, it turns negative and effects all players, whereas if I am the only one who sees it, it remains as is and only effects me. In other words, if you hadn't shown me your situation, I would have just halfed my item costs instead!"

Yamato remained silent for a moment, Yuki having let go of him by now. Or at least stopped with the kisses getting increasingly more passionate. With one arm still around her shoulder, he pressed her against himself as he proudly began declaring.

"Five rounds fits well, since this game will be over in two starting now."

"That is a bold and quite impossible claim. Though, I will be sure to look forward to seeing your little play."

"Hey, bitch, when we crushed you, I'm gonna fuck you up.", Yuki said with a serious tone, despite being very comfortable and happy in her current position.

"Well now, sounds like all talk to me. But I suppose we will see in two rounds anyway."

Letting go of Yuki momentarily, Yamato reached out to the item shop and in his hand was a protection sphere, which he openly pressed and activated. He then proceeded to buy the dice for 2 points as well.

"Hey, it looks like I'm already one ahead. At this pace, I won't even need to strategize and just win by being faster. Though you had luck at the beginning, it seems it was ultimately pointless, huh?"

With that, Yamato rolled his dice. He did have a plan. And that plan had a 2.78% chance of being perfect, which would be decided at this very moment. However, with a bit of skill involved, the dice could be manipulated to increase those chances by a considerable margin. With a 4 and 1, Yamato moved to space fifteen, drawing another negative points card which he openly displayed as a -10.

"Oh-oh! If my calculations are correct, you'd be around 1 point right now. So it's basically over, since you can't buy dice until the prices dropped back to normal again, at which point you will have one chance to get a positive point card. How thrilling!"

"Don't worry, boo, I will save you!"

Yuki declared it with such passion and confidence, thatit was almost tragic when she rolled a 5 and 1, and landed on space sixteen, one away from Yamato again. She also happened to receive another 5 points through the card on that space. But what good were points if they could not be spend on Yamato?

"Pft, looks like its over for you, little god. But you are right that I am a bit behind… So let's roll high this time. But your girlfriend over there has a lot of points, and staying behind her is a bit safer despite the increased prices. And since you went out of your way to activate your second protection, I assume the first you bought you used earlier, hm? Coincidentally, that makes your spot perfect for me as well, if I want to safe money on having to use a protection myself, since you are hardly a threat. So, do spare me a 5 pretty please!"

She rolled the dice, which did land on 5 and 1. Statistically, for all three to roll within the three 2.78% possibilities in a row, it was almost certain one of them was cheating. Of course, all of them were enhancing probability through skilled throws. Making it far less unlikely. Except Bronelli, who, through sheer luck, rolled 6 and 1 as well, landing him on space twelve. Which of course was still quite far behind, but an impressive comeback nonetheless.

"And with that it's gods turn again! This turn is supposed to end the game, yes? I am so excited what you will do with your last remaining point!"

"…kill you, of course."

"What?"

Out of his pocket, he pulled out what appeared to be the item of the murder weapon. However, that was impossible, since that current cost 30 points, and even if he had one, he needed 15 to use it on her.

"A little tip for next time, if you want a game to go longer, pay more attention to the players. During and outside of their turns. And when you know someone is about to share a space with you, always use protection."

"Stop bluffing, you can't even use that. It doesn't matter where you got it from."

"I will be taking all of your points now."

Suddenly, the womans play figure broke into pieces. Both in the large version below of the game, as well as on the regular sized table in front of them.

"W-what!? Explain this!"

"I just told you. You should have payed more attention. But I will gladly explain it step by step to you, since you seem so lost in your own game… At the very beginning, when I bought my protection, I deliberately bought it in a way that you all knew I had it. Thus reducing the probability of anyone attacking me at that point, Bronelli specifically, since he already had enough points for a murder weapons then. This of course, allowed me to not even use it, and keep it for a while longer. For what, I will get to in a minute. Later, when Yuki and I failed to share a space, I went to her not to comfort her, but to whisper instructions into her ear. Those being for her to buy a murder weapon unnoticed. Not a problem for her with how fast she can move. So one turn later, when we shared a space again, she came to me under the premise of being happy, kissing me excessively so you would both avert your gaze away and enabling me to be handed the weapon from her."

"But you didn't even have the points to use it! Besides, that's cheating!"

"Nowhere in the rules is such a rule stated. Just like in real life, I am able to gift and receive things and gain ownership of them if they are legally owned by the one gifting them. Which is what happened here. As for the points… I'm afraid you made a few miscalculations… Because I received a special card preventing me from losing points from cards up to space fifteen, which is where we are right now. So the last -17 points, were actually -0. Additionally, I never even bought a second protection. I merely held the first one I bought hidden in my hand, and pretended that I just took it from the shop, knowing everyone would assume I had bought a second and already used the first."

"But… But all of this only works if I land on your space!"

"Yes, but that is why I made you land on space fifteen. By continuously showing you only my bad card effects, you were naturally forced to conclude my total point amount was by now insufficient to pose a threat to you. Your special card effect actually helped a lot, since thanks to that, the likelihood of me going for murder was basically zero according to your information of my points. Additionally, I provoked you to roll high, knowing you'd control your dice precisely enough to come into my range. Even if you had landed on Yuki's space, I could just hand her the weapon or see what I rolled. Seeing as I would only need a 1, I already had a 66,67% base chance of landing on your space in this turn. But of course, I was able to skip that step since you were intimidated by Yuki's points. Though, you could have used protection for that, you said yourself it was safer going onto my space, saving the 10 points protection would have cost and still moving forward by as much as possible otherwise."

"That's… That's crazy… You only know of this game for like half an hour at most, there is no way you could have thought of all of that in your first round while still learning about card effects and different strategies!"

"Yet I did. I first got the idea when I noticed how fast items reappeared in the shop after being bought, which was what made this trick possible in the first place. Now all I need to do is roll a one, take Yuki's points and wait until your effect is over, at which point I can buy the move to goal card. Bronelli cannot catch up either, since your card only last four more rounds, so he would need to roll a total of at exactly eighteen in that anount of rounds, which is extremely unlikely. And even if he were to catch up, I have enough of a headstart to win a genuine race."

"Uh-huh, that's right! But of course, boo and I expected nothing more of a dumb bitch such as yourself, whose only purpose seems to be our temporary entertainment. And as the term temporary implies, your purpose just ran out."

Yuki stuck out her tongue at the devastated woman. She had sunken to her knees, which Yuki enjoyed very much as she walked right up to her and looked down at her now so beautifully inferior existence with a wide grin.
