Shane Winchester's gaze remained on Alice Smith, calm yet faintly tinged with anticipation.
Alice, however, merely withdrew her gaze as usual, walking past the car just like in the past, as if they were two unfamiliar strangers.
Shane lowered his eyes, hiding a hint of disappointment beneath them.

Shane turned and got into the car, and before the car could start, his mobile phone rang: "Young Lord, she is preparing to use force."
"Understood." Shane lowered his eyes and placed the phone in the pocket of his inner jacket.
Alice sat on the public bus, somewhat absent-minded as well.
Without Shane Winchester nowadays, life seemed to have genuinely returned to peace, yet the peace she had yearned for seemed now, ironically, to have turned into monotony and dullness.
Sometimes she wondered, if he wasn't appearing in front of her several times a day, would she still be so distracted day after day, even neglecting her favorite flowers and plants unto death?
