Gilbert was furious. In his frustration, he shoved Ray so hard that Ray's back slammed against the car. The moment it happened, Gilbert regretted it. He immediately stepped forward to help him.
Sara, who had been watching silently, could not tolerate it any longer. "What is wrong with you?" she demanded loudly. "Why are you behaving like this?"
Gilbert didn't want them to know the truth, so he simply replied, "Nothing. I'm just not in the mood right now."
That only made Sara more annoyed.
"You really think we're blind? Is Rita upset because of me? Haven't you told her that there's nothing going on between us?"
Gilbert knew exactly where this conversation was heading, so he decided to clear up their misunderstanding.
"I don't want to marry her. I'm only doing this because of my dad. I told her to reject the proposal, but she accepted it."
Gilbert glanced at Ray. Ray avoided his gaze, then asked in a concerned voice, "Then why does she want to marry you? Does she like you?"
Gilbert shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe. Just look at her—who else would marry her? She doesn't even have any manners."
Sara immediately cut him off. "Okay, then why don't you talk to your parents? Just tell them honestly that you don't want to get married right now."
Gilbert let out a bitter laugh. "Both my dad and mom only care about their business and reputation. Otherwise, why do you think I'm in this situation?"
Sara and Ray exchanged glances. Neither knew what to say.
Finally, Ray asked quietly, "You're really going to spend your life with someone you don't even like?"
Gilbert ran a hand through his hair. "I don't know. Let's just grab something to drink. After the wedding, I'll live separately and do whatever I want. She'll ask for a divorce herself."
Both Ray and Sara stared at him in shock.
But Gilbert wasn't in the mood to hear any advice. Ray simply said, "Just don't regret it in the future."
Rita stared out of the car window, trying to calm herself. But the more she thought about what had happened, the more she felt like crying.
She knew Jasmine and Lily wanted answers, but she didn't even know where to begin.
When the car stopped near a flyover, Rita quickly stepped out before either of them could ask anything.
Lily and Jasmine followed her, waiting curiously for her to speak.
Finally, Jasmine asked gently, "Are you okay?"
Rita simply nodded.
But Lily, unable to contain herself any longer, asked directly, "Why do you behave like that with Gilbert? Did he do something?"
Rita remained silent.
Lily continued, voicing what she had been thinking all along. "Are you jealous of Sara? She's just a friend. And honestly, the way you behaved with him was quite rude, don't you think?"
Rita could not take it anymore.
"Jealous? My foot! If it were up to me, I would kill him!"
Lily still didn't understand. She smiled innocently.
"Aww, you like him that much?"
Rita nearly exploded.
"I hate him! I don't want anything to do with him! Forget the wedding!"
Jasmine and Lily looked at each other in complete confusion.
"Then what exactly is going on with this wedding?" they asked together.
