Chapter 14 - Pond

While in the kitchen, Rita really didn't want to cook anything for him. But if she refused, her mother-in-law would definitely find out, and that would ruin her carefully built image.

I'll make the worst dinner ever. After that, he'll never ask me to cook for him again.

Gilbert came home happily, eagerly waiting for dinner, convinced that his plan was working perfectly.

A servant served the food to him. Gilbert, feeling hungry, was delighted to see prawns for dinner. But as soon as he took a bite, he couldn't swallow because of the sour taste. He immediately spat it out and ordered the servant to call Rita.

When Rita arrived, Gilbert glared at her.

"What is this? Tell me you're doing this intentionally."

Rita had expected this reaction and had prepared herself for it all day.

"Why would I do this intentionally? If you have so many complaints, why don't you cook for yourself?"

Gilbert stood up furiously.

"Not only do you look ugly, but you can make ugly food as well. Wow, so much talent."

Rita had not expected him to say something so cruel. Unable to control her anger, she grabbed the bowl of hot prawns and threw them onto Gilbert's shirt.

"Now this is my talent. And from now on, I will not cook anything for you."

Before anyone could see her tears, Rita hurried toward her room.

Why do I let him insult me every time? I should rather poison his food.

Gilbert stood there, staring at his stained white shirt. Chad stepped forward to help, but Gilbert ignored him. Instead, he grabbed Rita's hand and dragged her to the washing area.

Rita had no idea what he was planning.

He removed his shirt and threw it at her.

"Wash it until every stain is gone."

She stared at him for a moment, wondering why he thought she would obey. She ignored him and turned to leave, but he suddenly pushed her into the small pond.

Her white dress became soaked, clinging to her body and making her figure visible.

Gilbert quickly turned his reddened face away. With a cold smile, he said, "Don't tell me you can't even do that."

Rita, still standing in the water, rose to her feet.

"Why do you think I would do that?"

Gilbert was taken aback by her courage, especially after everything that had happened the previous night.

"You know I can be really harsh. Do you want that?"

He grabbed her wrist—the same one she had burned earlier.

Rita lost her balance and instinctively reached for Gilbert for support. In his attempt to steady himself, he lost his footing as well, and both of them fell into the pond.

Gilbert's bare chest collided with Rita, and their eyes met.

The unexpected closeness made them both panic.

Wanting to escape the awkward moment, they quickly separated and returned to their respective rooms without saying a word.

Back in his room, Gilbert muttered, "She is really getting on my nerves."

He took out his clothes and glanced at himself in the mirror.

After those words, she'll definitely ask for a divorce.

He lay down on his bed, intending to sleep. But once he closed his eyes, he couldn't stop thinking about what had happened.

Meanwhile, Rita fell asleep without giving the incident much thought.
