Chapter 8
At the rooftop
"What are you doing here?"
Asha turned and saw Kai standing behind her.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, throwing the question back at him.
"I'm here to chill."
"Same."
Kai smirked slightly.
"I didn't know girls also chill."
Asha frowned.
"Why can't we? We're humans too, you know."
"Joke."
"What?"
"It's a joke."
Asha sighed.
"Then make things clear if you want people to understand you."
"I heard that."
"I don't care."
Kai folded his arms, studying her.
"So much for the kindhearted Asha Kings."
Asha looked at him directly.
"What do you want from me?"
Kai raised a brow.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean exactly what I said. You're Levi Kai. Every girl in this school wants you. So why are you here wasting your time with me?"
Kai didn't hesitate.
"Because I like you."
Asha froze.
"W… what?"
Kai smiled softly.
"Don't get me wrong. I'm not sexually attracted to you or anything like that. I just… like you. For you."
He paused, his expression turning thoughtful.
"And I don't know why, but you feel familiar. Like I've seen you before… like I've known you. But I can't remember."
He looked at her seriously.
"Do you think we've met before?"
Asha's heart tightened.
She forced a calm expression.
"What about you? Do you think we've met before?"
Kai sighed slightly.
"If I knew, I wouldn't be asking you. I feel like we have… but I just can't remember."
Asha looked away.
"Well, we haven't."
Kai frowned.
"And even if we have," she continued, "you don't remember. So it's not important. People only remember what matters to them."
She turned back to him.
"So no. We've never met."
Kai studied her face, searching for something.
"Really?"
"Really," Asha replied firmly.
Silence fell between them.
After a moment, Kai spoke again.
"Can I ask you something?"
"What?"
"Why do I feel like you're mad at me?"
"I'm not."
"It feels like you are."
"I'm not."
The bell rang.
"I have to go," Asha said quickly. "I don't want to be late again. Bye."
She walked away before he could say anything else.
Kai stood there, watching her leave.
In the classroom
The teacher was at the board, explaining a math problem.
Most students were paying attention.
Except two.
"I think he really likes me," Angeline whispered.
"Stop. You're delusional," Aubrey replied.
"No, I'm not. He said my name, and I didn't tell him."
"So?"
"So that means he's been paying attention to me."
Aubrey shook her head.
"He's only been here for one day. And you're popular, even for the wrong reasons. He probably just heard your name somewhere."
"No," Angeline insisted. "He likes me. I can feel it. He even said he didn't want me to get in trouble."
Aubrey stared at her.
"But he literally called you pretty stupid."
Angeline frowned slightly.
"I thought about that. Maybe he said that to make me reflect. He cares about me."
Aubrey sighed.
"Angeline, listen to yourself. Kai flirts with everyone. If you keep thinking like this, you're going to get hurt."
Angeline looked away.
"I see it."
"See what?"
"Never mind."
Minutes later, class ended.
At the café
"I'm going."
"To do what?" Aubrey asked.
"To ask Kai out, of course."
Aubrey choked on her snack.
"What? Are you crazy? Don't you dare."
"Why not?"
"Why not? Are you seriously about to confess to someone who isn't even interested in you?"
Angeline smirked.
"He is interested in me."
