Chapter 4 - Mutation

Captains log April 2nd 2022

They have...

Begun, to mutate. It- it isn't that bad.

The first ones to go missing are progressing farther than the others. But it's fine we have the Best... maybe Second Best scientists working on finding a way to cure them. One or two of them joked that we should "cure their existence". I, I yelled at them. Sure they have been here for a long time and are just trying to make light of the situation but making jokes about killing my friends was not something I could handle at that point. Lucas the first to go missing has begun to glow in other places. His skin is growing tougher and his veins and arteries are glowing blue and green respectively. His hair has become more sensitive. We found out the hard way when we tried to trim the ends. He bled, that-that is the best way I can put it. All he did was hiss in pain before green ooze dripped from the clipped strands. He said he was fine that it felt like a paper cut, but it took a while for the bleeding to stop. He isn't the only one that has changed Nami, Misha, and Juniper's skin has also begun to harden but theirs has also darkened. Nami's has started to turn blue, her hair splitting and looking more leaf like by the day. Almost like a willow from earth. I really miss home. It's times like this that I wish I could become numb on command, have the ability to be calus, but no such luck. I don't know how to deal with all this. But It's Fine. Misha's skin has begun to turn a reddish color. She complained frequently that her clothes were too itchy and her afro curls began to sprout leafy green tufts I fear shall soon to turn into leaves. She has since refused to wear clothes, AND UNLIKE Star Command we are not prudish and didn't stop her. If we had, we wouldn't have noticed that she was growing what looked like aerial roots. The reason I know what those are you ask? Well person I'm pretending exists the reason I even know what those are is the plant I kept alive for a month was a bonzi tree. I managed to grow them entirely on accident as the last planet we had been on had the perfect conditions to grow them. Steven even complemented me, and I had to just be like thank you but I'm pretty sure the plant did all the work. We laughed about it but I felt so awkward. Looking back it is kind of funny. I think that is the kind of levity I need. I feel Juniper got the weirdest mutation though. Tiny flowers have sprouted in her hair, which would be a good look for her if they weren't literally growing out of her head. The flowers seem to change color with her emotions. We found that out when she stubbed her toe and started swearing up a storm, mouth of a sailor on that girl I swear. But then we saw the flowers turn from white to deep and vibrant reds very quickly. I wonder if the mutations are making her feel her emotions more than she did before. It's not necessarily extreme yet if that's the case, she is just more sensative than she was before. Or maybe she was just better at hiding her feelings. Either way our scientist are still working on a cure and I have full faith that we can figure something out before this becomes permanent. Full faith, totally, yeah. Every thing will be fine.
