Chapter 1 - The exquisite gown

"This things needs to be washed, dusted and cleaned." Madam Sip points to the table, and clothes near it. "I want all these to be thoroughly cleaned before i return."

"Yes Ma."

"Don't forget. The red dress shouldn't he joined with the others, it removes colour."

"I won't forget ma." i dutifully nods.

"Better."

Dressed in a gown that should be tagged as inappropriate for public view, Madman Sip leaves the house.

"i really don't know what she hopes to gain by wearing such provocative clothes." Flip leans on the counter.

Looking at the said Madam Sip, he sighs.

Flip is my best friend. We grew up in the same part of the kingdom, and we clicked right at our first meeting.

And ever since then, we've being together.

"That's her way of telling the entire males in the kingdom that she's single and searching." I place my hand on my mouth to stifle a laugh.

Madam Sip is way too old for marriage. At the age of 32, no male in their right senses will get married to a female past the ripe age of 20, but Madam Sip doesn't seem to mind.

She believes that with her looks and wealth, she can be able to get a husband for herself.

As the only son of the elite chief of the Kingdom, Madam Sip has more wealth than an average noble.

Had she Being a bit young, she won't have any problem getting a husband for herself.

Her youth is enough to get a husband for her.

"Gossiping instead of working? Wait till Madam Sip returns." Ony the head servant frowned at us. Giving us both deadly looks, she walk towards the counter.

Ony is one of the maids i hate in this place. She no only hates my guts, but she tries to find ways to make me regret ever being born.

She's one of those who believes i can never be more than what I am.

"Continue on dreaming Mar, you'll never be more than a servant. Born in the slumps, always dies in the slumps."

Another reason why she hates my gut is because of Flip. Ony loves Flip, but he doesn't return the feelings.

Not only is he pissed at her for the way she treats me, but she happened to be someone who takes joy in making others unhappy.

"We're not gossiping about anyone. Can't we also talk here? Is it prohibited?" Flip gives her a look.

"No, it's not." Shyly tucking her hair behind her ears, Ony gives Flip a look she thinks seductive enough, but of a truth, the look is far from being seductive.

If anything, it makes me want to escape to the nearest hiding station.

"Then you see, we have the right to talk so far it doesn't disturb our work."Giving her a deadly look, Flip turns to go,but not before waving at me. "See you later Mar."

"Okay." Smiling at him, i walk towards the packed clothes that am to wash.

"You might think you have him now, wait till I show him what he's missing by being with you." Giving me a deadly glare that rivals that of Medusa, the devil's mistress walked back to the place where she came from.

Who knows she might have being going on an errand before she saw Flip and I.

*

Our kingdom unlike the few others I've being too is quite developed, and that brought rise to a class distinction.

In our Kingdom, the poor are classified in a category quite different from the rich. In no way are the poor to be seen in the same level as the rich.

It's more like a physical demarcation between the rich and the poor.

Walking to the market, i made sure to be careful not to touch any of the rich ladies.

Wouldn't want my stinking poor body to rub on their rich one,

God forbid their neat body touch mine.

Unlike the day before, today there's not much ladies at the general section, most of the stalls that would have being occupied by the pompous ladies who likes to flaunt their wealth isn't filled at all.

Making my way through the over eager merchants trying to charm me into their stall *they know am here for my mistress* I make my way towards the only seamstress Madam Sip likes to patronize.

According to Miss Sip, the seamstress is the best in the entire Kingdom.

"Good morning Miss Kilin." I smile at the seamstress.

"Morning Mar." She motions for me to enter her stall.

Miss Kilin's shop is filled with different dresses, touching some of them made me sigh in bliss.

If only I can afford to have something as smooth and silky as these clothes.

"Your mistress sent you to get her new dresses?"

"Yeah." I look towards the back of the first stall, a black lacy gown lies on a table.

The shiny material caught my eyes. It might not have being on a mannequin like the others, but the material is quite eye catching.

It's one that takes a person's breathe away at the first glance.

"You made this?" Walking towards the dress, I raised it from the table.

The material is much more beautiful now am closer to it. The silkiness enough to lure me to sleep; the material is just exquisite.

"I did." Miss Kilin answers in a dismissive tone.

"What's wrong?" I turn to her in question, the beautiful gown still in my hand.

"The owner rejected the gown. She said it wasn't to her taste."

"Why will she do that?" I turn the beautiful gown. No one in their right mind will reject a dress as beautiful as this.

"You want the gown? You can take it. No one else will take the gown."

"Really?" My eyes widened at her words. "You want me to take the dress?" I ask to be sure I heard exactly what she said.

i don't want to get my hopes up only to have it dashed to pieces.

"You seem to like it."
