Winter roamed the vast library for moments more before realizing that she had told her friends she went to the bathroom and they would be wondering where she was. Winter walked back to her classroom and put the book Sam left, in her bag. She looked around to make sure she was alone and then nodded as she meandered back to the audio visual class.
Winter tiptoed quietly to her seat and she noticed it was the final minutes of the movie. She sat back down but everyone's eyes were glued to the screen, they barely noticed her. Winter smiled, relieved that the interrogation concerning her whereabouts would not come. When the credits started rolling and the lights went back on Jax's head spun and his eyes were locked on Winter's, "How did you do that?" Winter tilted her head, "Do what?" She fiddled her thumbs. "How did you know how the movie was going to end before it even really started?" Winter shrugged coolly, "Nothing special. I've watched the movie before." Mandy laughed, "Lies." Winter's head shot to where Mandy was seated, pleading with her eyes for Mandy not to reveal unnecessary information to Jax. Jax's eyebrows raised as Mandy went on. "For fun, Winter doesn't watch movies, she solves mysteries." Jax laughed delightedly, "You like those mystery games too?" Winter rolled her eye and Layla shook her head, "Not games. Winter solves real life mysteries." Winter sighed as Jax watched her, "So you knew that the main character was going to give back all the money she stole since her sister was actually alive, because you solved the plot before finishing the movie?" Winter rubbed her eyes thinking, "And the interrogation begins." "I distinguished the character's unique personality, along with her circumstances, mixed with the foreshadowing provided in the beginning of the movie to discern its end. It was just a lucky guess." Jax huffed in surprise, "A lucky guess, my foot. All I see is a pretty girl and a shiny car." He thought for a moment, "Wait so you never just watch a movie to be entertained?" Winter shook her head, "Movies don't interest me." Mandy and Layla shared a bemused laugh. "So what entertains you?" Jax looked like he was genuinely curious. Winter pretended to give it some thought, before staring into Jax's enthralling blue eyes and said, "Finding the truth." Jax furrowed his eyebrows, "Sounds delightful." Layla's eyes roamed from Jax to Winter, observing the interaction, "We're relying on Winter to solve the ultimate mystery." Jax glanced over at Layla. Mandy smiled fiendishly, "We're trying to get her to unveil the headmaster's identity."
They were so absorbed in their conversation, that they didn't realize the rest of classes eight and five had already left. Cornell stormed back in the room, "Excuse me for interrupting your little therapy session. Just let me know when you're ready to join the rest of us back on Earth." He stomped his foot aggressively. Winter stood first, glad for an end to the conversation. "You heard the lady." Cornell fumed. Mandy and Layla tried to stifle their laughter, but Jax didn't bother. At the sound of Jax's exuberant, boyish laughter Cornell bellowed, "Ryan! You seem to be quiet the lady's man. I see you're just surrounded by them today. Why don't you meet me in the teacher's office later so you can lift heavy things and impress them all with those muscles of yours." Winter laughed and Jax glared at her. She followed the rest out before looking back at the giant screening room. Winter cracked her knuckles, trailing after her friends.
Mandy, Layla, and Jax were rambling on about their thoughts of the movie as they strolled through the magnificent halls. Winter's habit of carefully examining her surroundings never failed, she noticed the hazel eyes staring at her again. Winter squinted in her direction and the girl turned away like she was about to leave. "Wait." Winter said abruptly. Her friends turned to her, confused. "What?" Winter didn't take her eyes off the girl, "I'll catch up with you guys in a second." Winter tracked the girl to the roof. It struck Winter that her hair was now a chilled blue color. Winter strode over to where the girl was standing. She crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for the girl to turn around. Harsh, hazel eyes met her own. "Who are you? Why do you keep watching me?" The girl glowered at Winter, "I'm Brenna Abbott." Winter studied her, "And why do you keep staring at me? Want some beauty tips?" Brenna tucked her short, bluish-white hair behind her ear, "I'm trying to figure out what all the hype is about. You're not even that pretty." The corner of Winter's mouth tugged up, "What, does someone you have a crush on have an interest in me?" Brenna scoffed, "The only one for me is Sam Tudor and he wouldn't give someone like you the time of day." Winter looked at her nails as Brenna continued, "The point is you're just some overrated girl who's getting attention because you're new." Winter simply laughed, which only irked Brenna further. "So you're watching me to see if you can find some way to prove to how overrated I am?" Brenna snickered, "Not at all. I'm only observing how you work so that I'm enabled to make your life a living hell." Winter narrowed her eyes. "We'll see." Brenna shook her head. "No Knight, you will see." Brenna turned away and walked towards the stairs leaving Winter alone. She tugged on her braid and walked back to her friends.
