Day: 2
Location: Kirishima High - Clocktower top floor
Time: 8:25 A.M
Remaining time before Night: 9 hours and 35 minutes left
While the two boys are busy with their task, the other group is currently watching the ongoing apocalypse happening around the world. The escalation of the situation has already caused many of them not to believe the situation.
"No way...isn't this Tokyo?" Cindy exclaimed as she saw the streets of Tokyo getting overrun by the dead.
"Yeah, I doubt this is even a movie. It's a live drone camera being used to broadcast the situation. All of the other stuff on the scene is too real to look like CGI or video editing. And besides, even news outlets are currently broadcasting the same news. I don't think these broadcasts are fake," Nanami said as she switched the playing video to another, this time, the regular television broadcast that is also streaming on video streaming sites.
"The SDF has already been deployed to various parts of Japan and is now actively evacuating citizens to the quarantine zones, as various areas around Japan have already fallen to the grasp of the zombies. The government has already issued a state of calamity and a Level 5 emergency level to the current situation in the whole Japan. Everyone is currently advised to remain calm and lock themselves in a safe place and wait until the rescue arrives."
The report continued as the others shook their head. The situation is much worse than it seems if the warning level has already escalated to level 5. Those warning levels are only issued during severe and dangerous life-threatening calamities. For this incident to escalate a lot, the situation has reached this state, meaning it no longer has control over the spread of the outbreak.
Cindy, who is watching the news, asked Nanami. "Hey, Nanami, right? Can you also search if there is any news related to this outside Japan?"
"Yeah, I am also curious. Is this situation only happening in Japan or around the world?" Miyuki is also curious.
"Let me check here. The website has been littered with these videos, so I might need to filter them...and there we go."
As soon as Nanami hits the Enter Key, various videos from different parts of the world are showing the same chaos that is happening around them.
"It seems that this incident is not just a Japan thing. This is also happening all around the world," Mr. Leo frowned. "And from the looks of it, it seems that they have it worse there."
The news and videos broadcast on the internet span a few days in terms of upload time, and although days and time are a big gap in some parts of the world, it doesn't mean much in terms of the problem. The situation has already escalated to a global crisis.
"Then, does that mean we are on our own? We can't expect to receive help right now?" Okabe frowned.
"Looks like that should be the case here this time around. We will need to deal with this problem by ourselves and survive on our own as well. And considering the situation that we experienced last night, it isn't a wonder why people seem to be having a hard time as well, despite the enemies being the usual zombies we keep on seeing in movies," Nejima rubs his chin.
"You watch those movies, man?" Okabe was surprised by Nejima's words.
"Of course. I am one of the people who are considered movie buffs. I watched various classics, B- rated movies, and other stuff that lines up my alley. And that includes zombie movies as well," Nejima grinned.
"Wow, Neji. I didn't know you were a kindred soul as well. You hid yourself well from the bullies huh?" Nanami grinned.
"Of course. With how some of the bullies would prefer to bully those they consider a "nerd", I decided to blend in to ensure those guys won't know. And I survived."
"If that is the case, then how come you don't seem to be using your knowledge as a movie buff? Wouldn't most of them be the most enthusiastic in this kind of situation?" Cindy frowned. It seems she also has an idea about it as well.
"That's true and all. But I prefer not to risk my life too much. Knowledge and skills are separate things, and I acknowledge that I am not athletic and capable enough to be like Kyosei and Souichi to help out with dealing with the zombies and go on supply runs. If I had their skills, I wouldn't be huddled together with you guys and would have volunteered to fight back."
"Smart move indeed. I guess you are indeed using your knowledge as a movie buff to survive. I thought you would act as someone who would fight," Chie chuckled.
"Still, this doesn't change the problem we will be facing in the future. With the whole world in chaos, doesn't that mean that we are heading to people fighting one another for supplies? Sooner or later, we might face people who are willing to kill and fight other survivors just to survive. If this is similar to the movies, if the zombie threat isn't solved and the government will collapse as a result of this, we will be forced to survive in a group, be wary of strangers, and ensure that we have enough things that will allow us to defend ourselves against the increasing dangers the apocalypse will bring," Nejima explained to everyone.
"True. Food will soon be scarce to the point that people will start killing just to grab food. And I don't think going with the quarantine with the government will guarantee our safety. Just like how in the movies, the more people gathering together, especially in evacuation areas, the higher the chance someone who is infected has slipped through, which will cause the outbreak. Everywhere right now is dangerous, and with the populace in panic, I doubt this will end with a happy note. Let's expect the worst," Mr. Leo shook his head.
"Then, does that mean if there is an evacuation protocol, we will not be joining?" Sena frowned. It seems she does not like what she is hearing from everyone.
"Evacuation right now spells a big disaster in this instance. Food is gonna be scarce, and military people will not keep babysitting the civilians for a long time, especially if the government has fallen as a result. It is best to keep our toes and stay together as a group and gather supplies. Scientifically speaking, this outbreak of zombies should be statistically impossible, and many tried debunking that on the internet, and even some scientists also did the same, that an apocalypse where the dead will rise will not happen. And yet here we are. One thing that makes me certain is that if we wait for the rescue, or even join the evac, we will not be free enough, and our future might be uncertain," Chie said with confidence.
"Then, what is the best course of action after we leave the school? Is there any place we can even hunker down and stay as a base?" Miyuki looked at everyone, hoping there was someone who will answer with confidence that there is one.
Nanami closes her laptop and answers Miyuki's question. "At the moment? We still have no good place to hide in. But one thing is for sure, we needed to find a place that we can easily defend, secure, and fit all of us without problems. Other than that, we also needed to have a better location for resources. A big land to farm, a place we can fish if possible, a stable source of water, and many more. A big plus if the place is far from the city or far secluded enough that even the zombies will be scarce. At the moment, I don't think there's a place like that just yet, but with the world in chaos right now, sooner or later, we will be able to find the perfect place we can use as our base of operations. The only thing we can do at the moment is to remain as nomads with the bus and hope for the best."

Day: 2
Location: Kirishima High - Cafeteria
Time: 9:00 A.M
Remaining time before Night: 9 hours left
The boys arrived safely in the cafeteria. The way from the faculty room to the cafeteria is much smoother than expected, as fewer zombies are walking around. And if there is one, Kyosei would immediately kill it without hesitation.
Unlike the last time Kyosei was in the cafeteria, the place is empty without any signs that there are zombies. But there are clear signs of a scuffle, meaning someone has entered the cafeteria to perhaps grab something, only to be ambushed or attacked by the zombies inside that Kyosei didn't kill. But that is no longer part of Kyosei's concern.
"Looks like the place is empty. Food and water are still here, thank goodness. Looks like will have a good haul after this," Souichi smiled seeing the canned foods, instant noodles, and a few bottles of water still on the shelves.
"That's right. Of course, we need to get the resources as soon as possible. We can't keep dawdling here with all the zombies crawling through the place. Stuff the bag as much as possible with food and water. I will keep watch for any zombies that might come," Kyosei suggested.
"Good idea. I will let you know once I am done here."
Souichi immediately started working. He gathered all the canned food he could find, instant noodles, and a bottle of water, and made sure to stuff them inside the bag as neatly as possible so that he could still stuff more inside. On the other hand, Kyosei remained calm and watched over the entrance. Zombies are totally unpredictable so it would be best to remain alert otherwise, they might not be returning alive if that is the case.
While keeping the area safe, Kyosei soon heard a few screams of bravado below. Kyosei frowned, as making too much noise in a zombie-infested school is very much a death sentence. Kyosei peeps downstairs to know who were the ones causing the ruckus and seemed to be intentionally attracting the dead.
On the ground floor, around 8 students, 4 girls and boys are running and seem to be heading to the parking lot. They seemed not to be being chased as they were screaming in happiness for some reason.
"Are those the Senior students? What are they doing to be screaming like that? Are they intentionally attracting the dead?"
"Kyosei! I have finished packing up the food and water. What are you doing? You see something down there?" Souichi asked.
"Yeah. I think I saw a few seniors escaping. They are quite rowdy when they are leaving. It seems they are heading to the parking lot."
"What? Then, are there other survivors aside from us? That is great to know! Perhaps we can ask for help with them?"
"And what, join up with them? Don't be an idiot, Four eyes. Right now, we need to worry about our own hide instead of worrying about others. And why did you want to team up with them? They might be older than us, but their behavior when I saw them is enough to cause trouble and bring disaster. With those kinds of people in the group, there's a high chance we won't be escaping this school safely. It's best to keep ourselves to the minimum number rather than to increase."
"But..." Souichi tries to argue.
"Yes, I know. However, morality and kindness will just kill us in this situation. Better save our hides first before worrying about the others. Don't forget, we are also a big group. Adding more people to our group is not a good thing. Lay down yourself as a cooperative person for now. If you don't want to die early, then ensure you don't just die as a result of strangers. And what about the food? Once those people saw the food, they would start to become feral and would not hesitate to rob you in broad daylight just to survive. Best we keep our distance."
Souichi couldn't say anything. Kyosei's words might be harsh, but he is thinking about the group.
"Right...thanks for the warning, Kyosei. Anyways, here is your bag. Let's hurry and return."
Kyosei took the bag and wore it on his back. It is heavy and bulky, but that also means it is filled with lots of food.
"Let's report this back to everyone."
