Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Finally Home

The ocean returned in a rush of silence.

One moment—compression, distortion, space folding inward.

The next—

Open sea.

A small wormhole collapsed behind the Phobocaster, its edges folding in on themselves before vanishing completely, leaving only calm water and drifting currents as if nothing had happened.

Yuuki exhaled slowly, easing his grip on the controls.

"…That was the first time doing hyperspace underwater."

The systems stabilized.

"Master, we are in the clear," Belfast reported, her voice returning to its usual calm composure.

"Finally…" Yuuki muttered under his breath.

He turned away from the controls.

And looked at them.

"You girls alright?"

For a second—

No one answered.

Then—

Ade broke.

Her legs gave slightly as she covered her face, tears spilling uncontrollably.

"This… this isn't a dream, right…?"

Soda immediately moved to her, wrapping her arms tightly around her as if trying to hold her together.

"We're not going to wake up and get beaten again… right?" her voice trembled, barely holding.

The words hung heavy.

Years of fear.

Conditioning.

Pain.

Still clinging to them.

Yuuki didn't interrupt.

He let them feel it.

Let them release it.

Because this—

Was the first moment they were truly safe.

Nearby—

Yorktown finally stepped forward, no longer restrained by combat readiness. She moved directly to Avrora and gently pulled her into an embrace.

Avrora didn't resist.

She collapsed into it.

Her composure shattered completely as quiet sobs turned into open crying.

She held onto Yorktown tightly—

As if letting go would send her back.

Enterprise stood close, watching over them quietly.

Belfast softened, her usual professionalism giving way to something more gentle.

Atago and Takao remained nearby, silent but present.

Illustrious placed a hand lightly over her chest, relief washing over her expression.

Yuuki stepped closer.

His voice lowered.

"You've been through a lot."

A pause.

"I'm sorry it took this long to get to you."

There was no pride in his tone.

No victory.

Only sincerity.

Because he knew—

For them—

This wasn't the end of a mission.

It was the end of something far worse.

The hum of the Phobocaster settled into something steady and reassuring, the kind of sound that no longer signaled danger—but distance from it.

For the first time since the chaos began—

They could breathe.

Rapi straightened slightly where she sat, her composure returning piece by piece. Even so, there was a softness in her expression now that had not been there before.

She bowed her head.

"Again… sir. Thank you for rescuing us."

A brief pause.

"I know your mission was to rescue Comrade Avrora… but you still chose to save us."

Beside her, Anis and Neon followed her lead, bowing as well.

"Yeah… seriously," Anis added, her tone more raw, more honest. "When you punched that bastard and sent him flying… that felt really good to watch."

Neon nodded quickly.

"And when their sub exploded…"

Her voice wavered slightly.

"You have no idea how relieved we felt."

Anis clenched her hands slightly.

"…A year."

A quiet breath.

"A year being treated like that by that fat bastard."

Nearby, Ade and Soda exchanged a glance, their relief just as visible, even if they didn't speak immediately.

They had been maids once.

But not like that.

Not under cruelty.

Not under fear.

Yuuki listened.

Then shook his head slightly.

"Don't overthink it."

His tone wasn't dismissive.

Just grounded.

"I was already marked by Magellan's higher-ups anyway."

He leaned slightly against the console.

"So I moved their tracker to the torpedoes before launching."

A faint smirk.

"Big bang torpedoes still do the job."

Anis blinked.

"…You planned that too?"

Yuuki shrugged lightly.

"Contingencies."

Then his expression shifted, just a little.

"Anyway… I only learned about Nikkes two days ago."

That caught them off guard.

"Two days?!" Neon blurted out.

Yuuki nodded.

"Still figuring things out."

A small pause.

"But you're… interesting."

Rapi studied him more closely now.

Because that answer didn't match what they had just witnessed.

Not at all.

Then—

Yuuki reached up.

The nanomachines around his head dissolved, retracting smoothly until his face was fully revealed.

No helmet.

No distortion.

Just him.

"…By the way," he said simply, "the name's Yukihira Yuuki."

Silence followed.

Because that—

Was not what they expected. They thought when they saw his face back then, it was a mere disguise.

Young.

Far younger than someone who moved like that.

Commanded like that.

Planned like that.

Anis blinked.

"…Wait…"

Neon leaned forward slightly.

"…You're kidding…"

Rapi didn't speak.

But her gaze sharpened.

Because now—

She understood something even more important.

This wasn't just a commander.

This was someone—

They absolutely could not afford to underestimate.

Yuuki allowed the silence to linger just long enough for the weight of everything to settle before he spoke again, his tone calm but carrying a quiet authority that none of them could ignore.

"High Commander of the Global Defense Initiative," he said, a faint, almost casual grin forming on his face.

"…A high commander?!" Anis exclaimed, her voice rising before she could stop herself. The realization hit her all at once, and this time she did not try to hide it. That title alone meant something very specific—he was not just a field officer or a squad leader, but someone at the very top of his faction's command structure.

Rapi leaned forward slightly, her eyes narrowing as she tried to process what she was hearing.

"…Global Defense Initiative?"

Yuuki did not answer immediately.

Instead, he raised his hand.

Without warning, the protective suits that had been covering them dissolved instantly.

The material did not fall apart like fabric or detach like armor. It simply… broke down into particles, retracting seamlessly and flowing back toward Yuuki's palm before disappearing completely. The transition was so smooth, so effortless, that for a moment the Nikkes did not even realize what had happened.

They looked down at themselves.

"…We were wearing something like that?" Neon murmured, clearly caught off guard.

Yuuki spoke then, his tone even and matter-of-fact.

"A global defense force from another world."

He did not dramatize it. He did not exaggerate.

He simply stated it.

"An extremely advanced military faction operating on a planetary scale."

His gaze moved across them, making sure they understood.

"We are not tied to this world's factions, its rules, or its politics."

A brief pause followed.

"We are not here to protect humanity."

Another pause, longer this time.

"Not the Ark."

"Not Aqua."

He let those words sink in before continuing.

"And we are not at war with Sirens or Raptures."

The statement carried a weight that none of them missed.

"This is not our world," Yuuki continued. "We simply… arrived here."

His expression hardened just slightly.

"But if anyone decides to pick a fight with us…"

There was a subtle shift in his voice now, not louder, but sharper.

"They should be prepared for full retaliation."

Silence filled the cabin.

The Nikkes listened carefully, more attentive now than at any point before. What he was describing did not fit into any framework they knew. It did not align with Ark doctrine, nor with any known command hierarchy.

Anis looked at her hands, flexing her fingers slowly as if still testing what had changed.

"What we just did back there…" she said quietly, "…that wasn't normal for us."

Neon nodded, her usual energy subdued.

"We attacked humans," she added, her voice lower now. "We're not supposed to do that."

Yuuki did not dismiss it.

"I don't fully understand every layer of it yet," he admitted, "but your situation is similar to the shipgirls."

He leaned forward slightly.

"I overwrote your command restrictions that planted in your minds."

That statement hit them immediately.

Rapi's eyes sharpened.

"…You did what?"

"To protect us," Yuuki clarified calmly. "Even if that protection requires lethal force against those you meant to protect."

He paused briefly before adding,

"And earlier, you were already acting under emotional override."

Anis looked away, her jaw tightening slightly.

"…Yeah."

Rapi spoke next, her tone steadier.

"It didn't feel forced," she said. "It felt… natural."

Yuuki nodded once.

"That's because it aligned with your core function."

A short silence followed.

"You are designed to respond to a commander, just like these girls here." he continued. "Someone recognized by your system as an authority figure."

Rapi's gaze locked onto him.

"And you meet that condition?"

Yuuki gave a small, almost indifferent shrug.

"I had access to your activation framework."

Neon frowned.

"…How?"

Yuuki answered plainly.

"Recovered data."

He did not hesitate.

"From a destroyed Azur Lane headquarters."

The room went still.

"It was wiped out by a nuclear strike ten years ago," he continued. "Surface structures were gone, but the underground laboratory remained intact. I wanted to find data to find a way to revive the fallen wisdom cubes."

His eyes shifted slightly.

"That is where I found what I needed."

Anis frowned deeper.

"…But Nikkes are Ark technology."

Yuuki shook his head.

"No."

The response was immediate and absolute.

That single word disrupted everything they thought they knew.

"You are based on something older," he continued.

He paused briefly, then stated it clearly.

"Wisdom Cube technology." He pointed to his shipgirls. "Them... You were meant to be them..."

Rapi froze.

"…That's not possible."

Yuuki continued without hesitation.

"The Ark could not replicate true Wisdom Cubes."

His tone became more analytical.

"So they created an alternative."

He looked directly at them.

"Bastion Cubes."

Recognition hit instantly.

"…You're right," Rapi said quietly, her voice losing some of its rigidity.

Yuuki continued.

"Instead of constructing consciousness from data patterns like Wisdom Cubes…"

"They used real human brains."

Compressed.

Contained.

Converted into a functional core.

"…You had lives before this."

Silence fell heavily.

"…Yes," Rapi admitted after a moment.

Anis looked down, her expression tightening.

"…Most of them weren't good."

Neon forced a faint smile that did not reach her eyes.

"Some were okay."

Then—

Ade spoke.

"…Some of us were abandoned."

Soda's hands tightened slightly.

"The Ark was supposed to protect us," she said, her voice trembling.

"But it didn't."

Rapi's expression hardened again.

"…Ten years ago…"

"They sealed the Ark."

Yuuki remained silent, letting her continue.

"They locked themselves inside," Rapi said. "Anyone left on the surface…"

She paused.

"…Was left behind."

Anis clenched her fist.

"They even restricted our systems."

Neon added quietly,

"We couldn't access our Nikke mode."

Ade finished the thought.

"…We became nothing more than imitations."

Soda's voice broke slightly.

"…Trying to survive."

The silence that followed was heavier than before.

Because now—

The truth was no longer hidden behind systems, commands, or programming.

They were not just weapons.

They were not just constructs.

They were people who had been discarded.

And standing in front of them now—

Was someone who did not belong to the system that abandoned them.

Yuuki let their words settle before continuing, his tone steady, deliberate, and far more personal than before.

"I am not from the Ark," he said clearly. "To be precise, the Global Defense Initiative arrived in this world only two weeks ago."

That alone shifted the atmosphere.

"Two weeks…?" Neon repeated softly, disbelief creeping into her voice.

Yuuki nodded once.

"The shipgirls you see here," he continued, gesturing lightly toward them, "they became part of my faction not long ago."

His gaze moved across them.

"They were in the same position as you."

A pause.

"Abandoned."

"Forgotten."

The words landed heavily.

"Their base was destroyed. Their faction hunted them down to the last member."

Rapi's eyes narrowed slightly, listening more intently now.

"They were scattered," Yuuki went on. "Many of them died."

A brief silence followed.

"But their Wisdom Cubes remained intact."

He exhaled slowly.

"I am currently working on ways to bring them back."

The implication of that statement alone was staggering.

"Resurrection…?" Anis whispered.

Yuuki did not elaborate further.

Instead, he gestured again—this time more deliberately.

"These girls here…"

His voice softened slightly.

"They are from what remains."

Yorktown

Enterprise

Belfast

Illustrious

Atago

Takao

"They survived. Many others recovered by us and currently in our base."

A pause.

"They endured ten years on the run."

The weight of that sank in immediately.

"Their lives were not easy."

His tone was calm, but there was something behind it now.

"They are no longer the legends they once were."

Another pause.

"They are… survivors."

He looked at them again.

"Girls who just want a place to call home."

A quieter moment followed.

"A place where they can finally rest."

Then—

Yorktown spoke.

"We found it."

Her voice was gentle but firm.

She held Avrora close, the white-haired girl clinging to her as if letting go would break reality itself.

"With him."

A faint smile.

"We are safe with him."

Avrora tightened her grip slightly, her fingers clutching Yorktown's sleeve like a lifeline, her expression still fragile, still afraid this could all disappear if she blinked.

Yuuki gave them a moment before continuing.

"Let me introduce them properly."

He gestured toward Yorktown first.

"This is Yorktown."

Then—

"Her sister, Enterprise. Both from the former Eagle Union."

Enterprise gave a small nod, composed as always.

Yuuki continued.

"Belfast and Illustrious—from the Royal Navy."

Belfast inclined her head politely.

Illustrious offered a soft, elegant smile.

"And Atago and Takao—from the Sakura Empire."

Atago gave a playful, knowing smile.

Takao nodded with quiet discipline.

Rapi's eyes shifted slightly.

"…Those factions…"

Yuuki finished the thought.

"They existed before the Ark."

Silence followed again—this time filled with realization.

Then Yuuki turned slightly.

"And this…"

His tone softened.

"…is Avrora."

He glanced at her briefly.

"From the Northern Parliament."

A pause.

"A shipgirl. Just like them."

Avrora looked up slightly, her eyes still wet but clearer now.

And for the first time—

The Nikkes were not just looking at rescuers.

They were looking at survivors—

Just like themselves.

Yuuki let their doubts surface fully before answering, giving them space to speak without interruption. He knew this moment mattered more than any battle they had just fought.

"So don't undervalue yourselves," he said, his tone steady but firm. "Just because you think you're imitations of shipgirls."

He gestured lightly toward the six standing nearby.

"They don't see you that way."

A pause.

"They are survivors."

His gaze returned to the Nikkes.

"Just like you."

Silence followed, but this time it was different—less heavy, more uncertain.

"They found a place to call home," Yuuki continued. "That doesn't mean you can't."

That was when Rapi spoke again, quieter now, but more vulnerable than before.

"Sir… do you even need us?"

Anis looked away slightly.

"…Compared to your shipgirls… we…"

Yuuki didn't let her finish.

"I do."

The answer came immediately.

No hesitation.

He leaned slightly forward.

"These girls are shipgirls," he said, nodding toward Yorktown and the others. "At sea, they are unmatched. That is where their full capability lies."

A brief pause.

"But on land…"

He shook his head slightly.

"They are limited."

That drew the Nikkes' attention immediately.

"You," he continued, looking directly at them, "are different."

His tone sharpened—not harsh, but precise.

"You operate on land naturally. Efficiently."

He pointed lightly toward Anis and Neon.

"When I gave you weapons you had never seen before…"

A faint hint of approval crossed his expression.

"You adapted instantly."

Anis blinked.

"…We just used what we could."

Yuuki shook his head.

"No."

"That level of adaptation is not normal."

He looked at all of them now.

"Your accuracy was consistent. Your coordination improved mid-combat."

A short pause.

"I was impressed."

That landed harder than praise usually would.

Then—

Yuuki shifted tone again.

"And I can train you further."

Anis raised an eyebrow slightly.

"…Further?"

Yuuki gave a small, almost casual smile.

"I can train you to operate tanks."

Neon leaned forward slightly.

"…How big?"

Yuuki answered without hesitation.

"Ten times your size."

Silence.

"…Ten times?" Neon repeated.

Yuuki nodded.

"The GDI Mammoth Tank—standard model—is about four times your size."

He continued as if listing specifications.

"Mark II is six times."

"Mark III reaches ten times."

A faint pause.

"And you haven't even seen Mark IV yet."

The implication alone was enough.

"…You're serious…" Anis muttered.

Yuuki's tone remained calm.

"We build bigger."

He glanced toward the shipgirls briefly.

"Tanks. Ships. Flying battleships."

At that—

Yorktown smiled faintly.

"Trust him," Yorktown said. "We've seen them."

A soft exhale.

"Some of them are so large… we felt like ants standing next to them."

The Nikkes fell silent again.

Not from fear.

From perspective.

Yuuki continued.

"So here's where you fit."

He looked directly at them.

"Nikkes are my ground operatives."

A pause.

"I need ground operatives."

His voice remained steady.

"I cannot have my shipgirls operating where they are not optimized."

That clarity—

That directness—

It made sense.

Rapi lowered her gaze slightly, then spoke again.

"…If you don't mind…"

A pause.

"Please… let us call your base… home."

Her voice did not break—

But it came close.

"We're tired of running."

Anis clenched her hand slightly.

"If you can find any use for us…"

Soda and Ade nodded quietly.

"…Please."

Yuuki looked at them for a moment.

Then—

He smiled.

Not wide.

Not exaggerated.

Just enough.

"Don't worry."

A pause.

"I will."

Then he added, more softly—

"Not immediately."

That caught them off guard.

"But that doesn't mean you're not useful," he continued.

He gestured around them.

"In my base…"

His tone shifted slightly—less like a commander, more like someone stating a principle.

"Shipgirls and Nikkes live comfortably."

A pause.

"Together."

He looked at all of them now.

"No one is above the other."

Another pause.

"No one is beneath."

His voice lowered slightly.

"You are all survivors."

And then—

"Under one banner."

The words settled in the room—

Not as an order.

But as something they had not had in a very long time.

A place—

To belong.

Yuuki let the moment settle—the quiet after chaos, the fragile calm that followed survival—before turning slightly toward the six beside him.

"Shall we go home?"

The answer came without hesitation.

"Yes," Belfast replied, already thinking ahead. "We should get them to Vestal as soon as possible. They will need a full checkup, Master."

Yuuki gave a small nod, then opened a comm channel.

"Yo, Vergil. You there?"

A familiar voice responded almost instantly.

"Yup. And hey—thanks for sending that SSS Dipol."

Yuuki smirked slightly.

"Transferred it straight from my inventory."

"Yeah, I noticed," came the reply, laced with amusement. "The tech division is already tearing it apart—carefully, don't worry. You just made a lot of very excited engineers happy."

"Glad to help," Yuuki said lightly.

Then he glanced toward the Nikkes.

"Also—meet our new Nikke staff members."

There was a brief pause before the voice returned, clearer this time.

"Nice to meet you all. I'm Vergil. Vice High Commander of the GDI Space Fleet."

The title alone shifted the air again.

Yuuki added calmly,

"He handles everything beyond the atmosphere. I handle ground operations. He commands the space fleet."

Rapi blinked.

"…You have a space fleet?"

Yuuki's grin returned, faint but unmistakable.

"Yeah."

A pause.

"One capable of annihilating this entire world if needed."

Silence followed immediately.

Not disbelief this time.

Understanding.

"Like I said," Yuuki continued, his tone steady, "this isn't our war."

"We don't answer to this world."

He looked at them directly now.

"I'll register myself as your commander."

The words were simple.

But decisive.

"Even if the Ark tries to reclaim you…"

His voice hardened slightly.

"Don't listen."

A pause.

"You're not theirs anymore."

Another pause.

"You're GDI now."

He let that sink in before continuing.

"And if we find more of your comrades… we'll decide together if they belong with us."

Then—

His tone shifted again.

Softer.

"I'm not forcing you."

That caught them off guard.

"If you decide this isn't for you…"

He gestured slightly outward.

"I'll drop you off somewhere safe. A populated island. You can live freely."

No pressure.

No coercion.

Just choice.

That was what broke the last barrier.

"No," Anis said immediately.

"…Please."

Neon shook her head.

"We don't want to run anymore."

Ade held onto Soda's hand.

"We're tired of surviving like that."

Soda nodded, her voice trembling but firm.

"Please… use us as you see fit."

Rapi met his gaze.

"…We'll follow you."

No hesitation.

No doubt.

Yuuki studied them for a moment. "Don't phrase it like that. It made yourself sounded like servants. Trust me, we've seen a lot of odd things back at Aqua."

Then—

He smiled.

And nodded.

"Alright."

He turned slightly.

"Hey, Verg."

"We're ready."

"Chronosphere activating," Vergil replied.

The water around the Phobocaster began to distort.

A spiraling column formed—

Like a spear made of liquid space itself.

Energy built rapidly.

Then—

In an instant—

The submarine vanished.

Gone from the ocean—

On its way—

To a new home.

==============

The transition ended not with a jolt—but with a shift.

Space folded back into place.

Water stabilized.

Systems normalized.

"Chronoshift complete," came Vergil's voice through the comms, calm as ever.

Yuuki didn't waste time.

He brought the Phobocaster upward.

The submarine ascended smoothly through the water column, pressure equalizing as light filtered in from above—

Then—

They broke the surface.

The hatch opened.

And what greeted them—

Was not what the Nikkes expected.

They stepped out slowly.

And froze.

Before them—

A vast island stretched across the horizon.

A fortress.

A sanctuary.

A command center.

Everything at once.

The Home Island — GDI Earth Division Base

Towering structures rose from the island's surface, sleek and metallic, humming faintly with energy. Defensive installations lined the perimeter—automated turrets, shield arrays, surveillance systems—all seamlessly integrated into the terrain.

At the center—

A massive structure was still being built.

A citadel.

Not by cranes.

Not by conventional machinery.

But by nanocores.

Entire sections of the structure were forming in real time—material assembling itself layer by layer, glowing faintly as it locked into place with perfect precision.

"…It's building itself…" Neon whispered.

Beyond it—

Dockyards.

Filled.

Ships unlike anything they had seen before.

Massive hulls.

Advanced weapon systems.

Energy signatures that dwarfed anything from Aqua or the Ark.

Among them—

The massive Orochi currently being retrofitted rested not far from the Home Island, its frame partially upgraded, surrounded by active maintenance drones.

And further out—

The GDI First Fleet.

Silent.

Waiting.

Power contained.

Dominance implied.

The wind shifted.

A flag waved high above the base.

The Diving Eagle.

Proud.

Unbroken.

The Nikkes stood there—

Speechless.

Even Rapi, who had seen the worst and endured it, could not immediately form words.

"…This is…" Anis began—

But stopped.

Because there wasn't a word for it.

Yuuki stepped forward slightly.

And spoke.

"Welcome…"

A brief pause.

"To the Global Defense Initiative Earth Division Base."

His voice carried—not loudly, but clearly.

"We call it…"

He glanced at the island.

"…Home Island."

The word lingered.

Home.

For them—

That word had not meant anything—

For a very long time.

Until now.

Before the moment could settle, movement stirred across the water.

Six sleek vessels cut through the waves toward the Phobocaster, fast and controlled, their wakes forming sharp white lines across the sea as they approached and slowed into formation.

Yuuki gestured toward them.

"Hydrofoil crafts. Adapted from light skiffs originally used by Allied Coast Guard units."

The Nikkes watched carefully as the vessels circled into escort positions.

Each one was compact, but heavily equipped. Mounted at the front was a fast-firing 20 mm CIWS, already tracking the airspace automatically.

"They're designed for surveillance and defensive operations," Yuuki continued. "Fast response units. That CIWS is specialized for anti-air. Limited firing arc, but extremely effective within it."

A faint electromagnetic pulse emitted from one of the crafts.

"And that's their secondary system—the Scramblegun," Yuuki added.

Belfast narrowed her eyes slightly.

"A jammer?"

Yuuki nodded.

"An electromagnetic beam. It taps into their onboard systems and fuel reserves to temporarily disable most known weapon systems on a nearby target."

Enterprise blinked.

"So instead of destroying the enemy…"

"It disables them," Yuuki corrected calmly. "Sometimes that's more useful if we want to zapped them away."

Before they could say more—

Something else surfaced.

Not machines.

Living creatures.

A group of dolphins broke the surface, circling the Phobocaster in smooth, coordinated movements, their sleek bodies cutting through the water with effortless grace as sunlight reflected off their backs.

Yorktown leaned forward almost immediately, her usual composure slipping for the first time since the battle.

"Are those dolphins?"

There was a softness in her voice now—something warm, almost childlike—that had been completely absent during combat.

Even the others reacted.

"My, how cute!" Illustrious exclaimed, her eyes lighting up as she watched one leap lightly across the surface before diving again.

Enterprise widened her eyes slightly, her gaze following their movements with quiet fascination. For a brief moment, her usual seriousness gave way to imagination—picturing these dolphins moving alongside her in battle, weaving through the water as allies rather than tools.

Nearby, Atago smiled softly.

"Ufufu… they are adorable."

Takao crossed her arms, but even she could not hide the subtle shift in her expression.

"…Unexpected."

And Belfast, ever composed, allowed herself a small, rare smile.

"They appear… well cared for."

The dolphins swam closer, circling the submarine in what almost felt like a greeting, their movements synchronized yet playful.

Yuuki smiled faintly.

"Yeah."

The dolphins swam closer, some leaping lightly before diving again.

"These ones are fitted with WP100 sonic disruptors."

Neon blinked.

"They're armed?"

Yuuki nodded.

"Their sonic output works like an underwater jackhammer. It doesn't just hit targets—it pounds them repeatedly until structures or ships start breaking apart."

Anis stared.

"…That's terrifying."

Yuuki shrugged slightly.

"They're effective."

Then his tone shifted, softer.

"But they're not armed all the time."

The dolphins circled closer, calm, curious.

"The disruptors only materialize when they detect enemies or when escort protocols activate."

Soda watched them quietly, her expression softening.

"…So right now…"

"They're just being dolphins," Yuuki replied.

A brief pause followed.

"This place is their home too."

The words lingered.

Ade's eyes followed one of the dolphins as it swam alongside the sub.

"…They're free," she murmured.

Yuuki nodded.

"A dozen of them stay here. Others are in the dimensional sea with their trainers."

Rapi glanced at him.

"Dimensional sea?"

"Training zone. Deployment reserve. Habitat within the GDI pocket dimension," Yuuki explained simply. "When needed, we call them back."

He watched the group for a moment longer.

"They're not expendable assets."

His voice carried quiet certainty now.

"We don't throw them away."

Another pause.

"We try not to lose them by giving them nano armors. They're smart as they employ hit and run tactics. If the enemy is too strong, they won't approach them."

That difference—

Subtle, but undeniable—

Did not go unnoticed.

Because for the first time in a long while, the Nikkes were seeing something unfamiliar.

Not just power.

Not just control.

But a place where even weapons—

Were treated like lives worth protecting.

===========

The Phobocaster eased into port with mechanical precision, guided not by human hands but by a swarm of maintenance drones that moved in perfect synchronization. Magnetic clamps locked into place along the hull, stabilizing the vessel as automated systems began scanning, cooling, and preparing it for servicing.

Around them, the escort dispersed.

The dolphins completed their graceful circuit before diving beneath the surface again, returning to their natural rhythm as if nothing extraordinary had just occurred. The hydrofoil crafts peeled away in formation, resuming patrol routes around the island perimeter.

Yuuki exhaled lightly.

"Home sweet home…"

The hatch opened.

He stepped out first, then turned slightly, motioning for the others to follow.

One by one, they emerged—

And stopped.

Because seeing the base from afar was one thing.

Standing inside it—

Was something else entirely.

The ground beneath them was spotless, polished to a near-reflective finish. Structures towered above, seamless and gleaming, every surface maintained with almost obsessive precision. There was no rust, no decay, no signs of neglect—only order, efficiency, and quiet power.

The Nikkes hesitated.

Ade glanced down at herself briefly.

"…It's… so clean…"

Soda held her arm slightly, almost subconsciously.

"…We don't belong in a place like this…"

It wasn't fear.

It was unfamiliarity.

Because for them—

Places like this didn't exist.

Then—

A low rumble echoed across the platform.

Something large approached.

A massive armored vehicle rolled into view, its heavy frame casting a shadow as it came to a controlled stop in front of them.

"This thing is huge!" Neon exclaimed, her voice snapping everyone's attention toward it.

Yuuki glanced at it casually.

"That's the Goliath APC."

The vehicle's presence alone made its purpose clear.

Thick armored plating reinforced every side, built to endure sustained fire. Mounted above was a quad 20mm cannon battery, its barrels aligned and ready—capable of engaging both aerial and ground threats with armor-piercing rounds.

"It carries over two dozen personnel," Yuuki continued. "Heavy armor. Internal firing ports. Troops can engage enemies while protected."

Rapi studied it closely.

"…It's not amphibious."

Yuuki nodded.

"Correct. It sacrifices water traversal for durability."

He tapped the side of the APC lightly.

"And it's equipped with multiple EMP landmine systems for rapid deployment."

Anis let out a low whistle.

"…That's not an APC. That's a moving fortress."

Yuuki smirked faintly.

"It does the job."

The rear hatch of the Goliath opened with a hydraulic hiss.

"Come on," Yuuki said, stepping toward it. "This will get us to the Health Center faster."

The ride inside the Goliath APC was nothing like what the Nikkes were used to.

It was smooth.

Unnaturally smooth.

Despite the vehicle's sheer size and weight, there were no jolts, no rattling metal, no rough terrain feedback. The suspension system absorbed everything, making it feel as if they were gliding rather than driving.

"…This doesn't even feel like we're moving," Neon murmured, pressing her hand lightly against the interior.

Through the artificial windows, the island unfolded before them.

Massive structures rose on both sides—clean, angular, and alien in design. Defensive towers stood at intervals, each one humming faintly with energy. Automated turrets tracked the horizon in silent vigilance. Patrol drones moved in precise patterns overhead.

It didn't feel like a base.

It felt like a military city.

"…There are no civilians…" Rapi observed quietly.

Yuuki leaned back slightly.

"Because it's not a civilian zone."

Above them—

Large aircraft cruised through the sky.

Orcas.

Their massive frames cast moving shadows across the island as they patrolled in steady formations.

"…Those are air units?" Anis asked.

"Orca gunships," Yuuki replied. "Heavy support and patrol."

The APC continued forward.

And then—

It slowed.

The rear hatch opened.

"Alright," Yuuki said, standing. "We're here."

They stepped out—

And were immediately greeted.

"We're home."

"Welcome home, Commander!" Vestal called out warmly as she approached.

Before Yuuki could respond—

"Commander, hug."

A small figure stepped forward.

Eldridge looked up at him expectantly.

Yuuki grinned.

"Hey, Eldridge."

He picked her up effortlessly, pulling her into a light embrace.

"Commander warm," she said softly, clearly satisfied.

Nearby, Vestal turned toward the others.

"Welcome back," she said, greeting Yorktown and the rest with a gentle smile. "How was the mission?"

"Fun," Enterprise replied, a small smile forming—rare, but genuine.

"Quite an adventure," Belfast added, composed as ever.

Yorktown smiled lightly.

"A lot of shooting."

Atago chuckled softly.

"Ufufu… but we did explore an underwater city."

Takao gave a small nod in agreement.

"It was… eventful."

Illustrious clasped her hands gently.

"I would not mind returning again."

Yuuki huffed lightly at that.

"Let's survive this one first."

Then—

A chorus of small voices.

"Bulin!"

The Bulin sisters rushed forward, practically bouncing with excitement as they surrounded him.

"Hey, hey—one at a time," Yuuki laughed. "I just got back."

"Comman—der!"

Another voice cut through.

San Diego sprinted toward him, stopping just short with her usual energy.

Yuuki raised an eyebrow.

"Did you get zapped again today?"

San Diego immediately looked away.

"No…"

Yuuki narrowed his eyes.

"I told you not to go near the Tesla Tower."

A nearby voice chimed in.

"No, Commander… she tried to climb a prism tower. It shot her."

Yuuki blinked.

"…Really?"

He looked back at San Diego.

"…I'm impressed you survived."

San Diego puffed her cheeks slightly.

"I'm strong!"

Yuuki shook his head, amused, before gently handing Eldridge over to Enterprise.

Vestal's eyes moved across the group the moment she got a clearer look at them, her professional composure sharpening into concern.

"I see you brought quite a number back."

Yuuki gave a small nod.

"Yeah. We rescued Avrora."

Avrora stepped forward slightly despite her fatigue, offering a respectful nod.

"Comrade Vestal… it's good to see you again."

Vestal didn't return the formality.

Instead, she looked her over carefully—taking in the condition of her clothes, her posture, the subtle strain in her breathing.

"You look awful."

Avrora gave a faint, tired smile.

"Captivity… isn't kind."

Vestal's expression softened just slightly.

"I can see that."

Her gaze shifted to the others.

"…And these girls?"

Yuuki answered simply.

"These are the Nikkes I told you about."

Vestal's eyes lingered on them a moment longer, her tone turning firm but not unkind.

"You look just as bad."

Ade and Soda instinctively lowered their heads.

Anis shifted slightly, unsure how to respond.

Rapi remained still, but her shoulders tightened.

"Let's get you treated first," Vestal said, already turning.

Before they could move—

"Shikikan-nyaaa!"

A voice burst into the scene.

Akashi came running toward them at full speed, small hands raised high in excitement.

Yuuki glanced down at her with a faint smirk.

"Oh, you didn't faint this time?"

Akashi stopped short, puffing her cheeks.

"Rude nyaaa! Akashi isn't that gullible!"

Yuuki chuckled lightly.

"I know."

Then, more quietly—

"I'm home."

Akashi's expression brightened instantly.

"Welcome home, nyaaa!"

She raised her arms again, practically bouncing with excitement.

The Nikkes watched.

Because what stood in front of them—

Was something they had never seen before.

A girl.

With cat ears.

And a tail.

Neon blinked twice.

"…Is that normal here?"

Anis didn't answer.

Because her attention had already shifted—

Toward Atago and Takao.

The wolf ears.

Now unmistakable.

"…Okay… I'm just going to accept that," Anis muttered under her breath.

Akashi, meanwhile, had already circled around them, eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"Nyaa! These are the Nikkes, nyaaa!"

Yuuki raised a hand slightly.

"Don't overwhelm them."

Then he gestured calmly.

"This is Vestal and Akashi."

A brief pause.

"They're support and repair ships."

Another pause.

"And currently, the base's doctors."

Akashi puffed up proudly.

"Akashi can repair you super fast, nyaaa!"

Vestal gave a small, apologetic smile.

"Please ignore her tone, but she's not wrong."

Then she motioned gently.

"Come. We'll take care of you first."

Her voice was calm.

Steady.

Not demanding.

Not cold.

Inviting.

For a moment, the Nikkes hesitated—

Then followed.

Because for the first time—

Someone was looking at them—

Not as tools.

Not as property.

But as patients.

As people who needed care.

===========

The transition into the medical wing was quiet, almost gentle, in stark contrast to everything the Nikkes had endured before. Soft lighting, sterile but warm surfaces, and advanced diagnostic systems surrounded them as treatment concluded with seamless efficiency.

Vestal stepped closer, her expression attentive yet reassuring.

"How are you feeling?"

Anis flexed her fingers slowly, as if rediscovering her own body.

"…It's… nice. All of our injuries…"

She trailed off, clearly surprised by the absence of pain.

Neon looked down at her arms.

"The scars… they're gone."

Her voice carried disbelief.

Ade hesitated before speaking.

"…Even the old ones… the abusive injuries…"

Soda held her hands together tightly, but this time it wasn't from fear.

"I… don't feel that weight anymore."

She looked up, confused by the unfamiliar calm.

Rapi frowned slightly, trying to process it.

"…Why do I feel… calmer?"

Vestal nodded, as if expecting the question.

"The Med Bay doesn't just repair physical damage," she explained. "It also stabilizes neurological stress and trauma."

She folded her hands gently.

"It doesn't erase your past."

A brief pause.

"But it removes the intensity of it."

Her voice remained steady.

"So what you experienced becomes… a memory."

Another pause.

"Not something that controls you."

The Nikkes fell silent.

Because that difference—

Was everything.

Akashi popped up beside them, unable to hold back her excitement.

"It makes you ten times better, nyaaa!"

Vestal sighed lightly, though there was no real irritation in it.

"Akashi may look like a child," she said, "but she is an exceptional doctor."

Akashi puffed her chest proudly.

"That's right, nyaa!"

Then she leaned in closer, eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"But Nikkes are really something else, nyaa… you're like us…"

A pause.

"…with untapped potential."

"Akashi," Vestal said gently, "you're overwhelming them."

Akashi immediately stepped back.

"Sorry, nyaa…"

The room settled again.

Then—

Rapi spoke.

"…Can I ask something?"

Vestal nodded.

"Of course."

Rapi glanced around briefly.

"…Where is the commander?"

She had not seen him since they entered.

Vestal smiled faintly.

"He's in the Health Center's common room."

A small pause.

"Freshening up."

She glanced toward the adjacent hallway.

"The other shipgirls are with him."

The implication was simple.

He wasn't monitoring them.

He wasn't controlling them.

He wasn't watching their every move like those who held them captive.

He trusted them—

Enough to give them space.

And for the Nikkes—

That alone felt unfamiliar.

Vestal turned her attention back to the last patient still seated, her tone softening slightly.

"How are you feeling, Avrora?"

Avrora straightened a little, her posture far more relaxed than before.

"Yes… it feels good," she replied quietly. "To finally recover after being dragged in chains for so long…"

Vestal studied her carefully, her expression sharpening just a fraction.

"You didn't suffer… anything worse?" she asked, more carefully now. "Did they harm you beyond that?"

Avrora shook her head.

"No. They wanted me… intact," she said, her voice steady despite the implication. "They intended to sell me at my 'best condition.'"

A pause.

"I am… grateful I was saved before that."

Vestal's gaze softened again.

"You won't be hurt again, Avrora."

Avrora gave a small nod, her fingers resting lightly against her arm.

"I know," she said gently. "Though… I do hope the Commander won't mind if I take a few days to rest properly."

Before Vestal could answer—

A familiar voice entered the room.

"I don't mind."

They turned.

Yuuki had stepped in, now without his armor, his presence noticeably lighter without the imposing frame of the suit. Behind him, the shipgirls followed—also no longer in combat gear.

They looked… different.

Not weaker.

Not less capable.

Just—

Normal.

Their "uniforms" were not standard military attire, but the clothes they were most comfortable in.

Enterprise wore her familiar outfit, composed yet relaxed.

Yorktown appeared in her dress, softer in presence compared to the battlefield.

Belfast remained in her maid attire, pristine and composed as always.

Illustrious carried herself gracefully in her signature dress and sunhat.

Atago and Takao stood side by side, their silhouettes perfectly aligned—two warriors cut from the same origin, yet refined into different expressions of grace and steel.

Their outfits mirrored one another, elegant yet battle-ready, fabric flowing just enough to soften the lethality they carried. But what drew the eye—what defined them in this moment—rested quietly at their waists.

Katanas.

Newly gifted by Yuuki.

For Takao, it was more than a weapon.

Her hand hovered near the hilt for the briefest moment, as if reassuring herself it was truly there. For so long, she had fought without one—had endured that absence like a missing part of her very identity. Now, restored at last, something within her had settled.

A faint smile appeared on her lips.

Small. Subtle.

But unmistakably real.

Atago noticed, of course. She always did.

The shift was subtle—

But meaningful.

They were no longer soldiers in that moment.

They were simply… themselves.

Ade and Soda, in particular, seemed to relax slightly upon seeing Belfast.

The maid uniform.

Familiar.

Safe.

"…Ah, Commander," Vestal spoke, rising slightly from her seat.

Yuuki gave a small nod as he stepped closer.

"I see you've all recovered."

He glanced briefly toward Vestal.

"The Med Bay really is something else… healing Nikkes too."

Vestal crossed her arms lightly.

"It adapts," she replied. "You bring me something new, I figure it out."

Akashi popped up from behind a console.

"Akashi helped too, nyaaa!"

Yuuki gave her a quick glance.

"I'm sure you did."

Then he looked back at the group.

His tone softened just slightly.

"So… mind introducing yourselves? I know your names—but I want to know the real you."

A brief silence settled over the med bay, broken only by the faint hum of equipment.

"Ah—please allow me to, beloved."

Avrora straightened where she sat on the bed, placing a hand over her chest before giving a respectful bow. The last word slipped out so naturally that several shipgirls around the room visibly flinched—eyes narrowing, cheeks twitching.

"I am Avrora. Paladin-class light cruiser of the Northern Parliament." Her voice carried both dignity and quiet melancholy. "I once played a role in a great revolution… but I no longer understand what became of the world after it."

Yuuki tilted his head slightly. "Northern Parliament… Soviet territory, back then. Correct?"

"Yes." Avrora nodded, her gaze softening. "It is… unfortunate. There is no one left who speaks my native language."

"Who said that?"

Yuuki answered her in fluent Russian.

The shift was immediate.

Avrora's eyes widened, her composure breaking into pure astonishment. "Commander?! You speak my mother tongue?!" she replied—also in Russian, her voice trembling with something brighter now.

"Fluently," Yuuki said with a small shrug. "Sakura Empire, Iron Blood, Dragon Empery… and a few more."

"You never mentioned that," Yorktown noted, her tone calm but edged with curiosity.

"It's a requirement," Yuuki replied. "The Global Defense Initiative isn't local—it's global. As a high commander, I need to communicate anywhere."

A pause.

"…Though, in my case, I cheated."

"Cheated?" Yorktown echoed.

"I use a neural implant. It integrates languages directly into my cognitive pathways—so I can speak them naturally." He tapped lightly near his temple. "Efficiency over effort."

"I see…" Avrora lowered her gaze slightly. "Then… it truly is a shame my hometown is gone. You would have loved it."

Yuuki's expression sharpened. "What happened?"

"Sirens." Her voice hardened. "They attacked. The survivors rebuilt… but months later, pirates from Aqua struck. They looted everything… and took me. And Rapi."

"Rapi was there too?" Yuuki asked.

"I found her collapsed on the roadside before that," Avrora explained. "Exhausted. She had been wandering alone… so I took her in."

A quiet moment followed.

Then Yuuki spoke, firm and grounded.

"From now on—this is your home, Avrora. You're safe here."

Her breath hitched.

"…Yes." She nodded, resolve returning to her eyes. "For my hometown… I will fight. Please—allow me to join your fleet, beloved."

A few shoulders in the room stiffened again.

Yuuki exhaled faintly. "You've been calling me that for a while now."

"Yes." Avrora smiled softly. "When I was taken… your voice reached me. It became my hope." Her hand tightened slightly over her chest. "So I called it 'beloved.' And then… you came. You made that hope real."

"…I see."

She tilted her head. "Does it trouble you?"

"No," Yuuki replied honestly. "I don't mind. It's just… others might misunderstand."

"Ehee… I don't mind." Avrora's smile turned just a little playful. "Consider it my advantage."

Behind Yuuki, several shipgirls puffed their cheeks in unison—silent, indignant protests at her boldness.

Avrora, blissfully unaware, simply sat there—content.

Yorktown's gaze drifted across the room, catching each subtle reaction—the stiff shoulders, the averted eyes, the faint tension hanging in the air. A knowing smile tugged at her lips.

"Well…" she said lightly, folding her arms, "it seems Avrora might be a rival from now on."

Enterprise looked away almost immediately, her expression as composed as ever—but just a touch too deliberate. Takao did the same, her hand resting near her katana, posture firm… yet offering no denial.

Silence, in this case, spoke volumes.

Atago, on the other hand, let out a soft, amused hum. "Ara~ how bold. I quite like her confidence." Her eyes flicked toward Belfast and Illustrious. "Don't you agree?"

"Confidence is admirable," Belfast replied smoothly, though her eyes narrowed ever so slightly—measured, assessing. "Though… one must also understand boundaries."

Illustrious smiled with practiced elegance, hands gently folded. "My, my… how lively things are becoming. It seems our dear Commander has become quite… popular."

Behind them, Vestal simply watched the exchange unfold, a gentle smile on her face—one that carried both amusement and quiet understanding.

No words from her.

She didn't need any.

The atmosphere said everything.

Unaware of the quiet tension she had stirred, Avrora remained seated, content in her place.

Beside her, another figure straightened.

Rapi bowed her head with crisp precision, posture disciplined despite sitting.

"Greetings, Commander. I am Rapi—Nikke serial number RR-15436. Manufactured by Elysion, one of the Big Three. I serve as the leader of Counters Squad… a veteran with extensive combat experience."

Her tone was steady, professional—every word measured.

"I specialize in marksmanship, particularly with machine guns. Please don't hesitate to assign me to ground operations. While I may not match a shipgirl's firepower… I excel where it matters on land."

Yuuki studied her for a moment, then nodded.

"Rapi, isn't it?"

"Yes, sir."

"I'm counting on you from now on."

"…Understood."

There was no hesitation in her reply.

Then—

A grin broke the formality.

"Yo! I'm Anis," she chimed in, leaning slightly forward with easy confidence. "Counters Squad, same as her. My motto? Simple—if you like it, you like it. If you don't, you don't." She shrugged casually. "I get along with pretty much everyone. Oh—and I use a rocket launcher."

Yuuki raised a brow faintly. "Lively, aren't you?"

"Always, sir!"

"Well, nice to meet you."

A third voice entered—bright, eager. "Soo… you don't mind if I call you Master?"

A brief pause.

Yuuki exhaled. "I would… but that title's reserved for maids like Belfast."

"Ahh, figures. Then… Teacher?"

"That's… arguably worse," he replied dryly. "Commander is fine. If you slip up, I'll let it slide."

"Ah—yes, mas—Commander!" she corrected herself quickly, snapping a playful salute.

"I am Neon! Also a member of Counters Squad!"

Yuuki glanced between them. "So the three of you operate together."

"Yes!" Neon straightened proudly. "I believe in the strength of almighty firepower! Firepower is the dream—and the solution—to everything!"

"…I'm sorry, what?"

Rapi closed her eyes briefly. "She's a gun enthusiast, Commander."

Anis snorted. "That's putting it nicely."

Rapi continued, unfazed. "She has a strong fixation on weapons—particularly high-output firearms. When she saw your laser rifle earlier… she couldn't stop staring."

Anis crossed her arms, smirking. "Same with the lightning weapons your shipgirls use. She practically memorized them on sight."

Neon puffed up proudly. "I dedicate myself to pursuing the true essence of firepower!"

"…Right," Yuuki said slowly. "So—you really like guns."

Neon suddenly stiffened. "U-Um… apologies if that's… annoying…"

Yuuki shook his head. "No. It's… unusual, sure. But not annoying."

Her eyes lit up instantly.

"Then—Commander!" she leaned forward eagerly, "your weapons—they're unlike anything I've seen. Would you allow me to examine them?"

Yuuki gave a small nod. "I don't mind."

With a flicker of light, a weapon materialized in his hand.

"Oh—try this. A Volt Auto Rifle. Standard issue for Enterprise, Yorktown, and Belfast."

He tossed it lightly toward her.

Neon caught it—and froze.

"…Huoohhh…!" Her entire expression transformed into awe. "The craftsmanship… the balance…! It channels electricity—no, compresses it—into projectiles? Lightning bombs and bolt discharge systems?! How does this even function?!" She looked up, practically glowing. "Who created this masterpiece?! I must meet them!"

"Ahem."

The room stilled.

Vestal stood with arms folded, her expression gentle—but unmistakably firm.

"No weapons in the medical bay."

Neon immediately straightened. "Yes, Doctor!"

Yuuki raised a hand slightly. "It's disarmed."

Vestal's gaze shifted to him.

"That includes you, Commander."

A beat.

"…Yes, ma'am."

For a moment, even the battlefield veterans behaved like properly scolded children.

A few quiet snickers rippled through the room, the tension easing at Vestal's firm reminder.

Neon, meanwhile, had already tuned everything else out—her eyes locked onto the Volt Auto Rifle in her hands, turning it slightly as if afraid even blinking might make it disappear.

Then, another voice—gentle, composed.

"Greetings, Master."

Ade bowed from her seat with graceful precision, every movement refined and deliberate.

"I am Ade, a maid Nikke of the squad Maid for You."

Yuuki raised a brow slightly. "That's… an unusual squad name."

Ade smiled softly. "Yes. We hear that quite often."

She folded her hands neatly on her lap.

"My specialization lies in Gatling-type weaponry. The Laser Chain Gun you provided suits me exceptionally well." A small pause. "Beyond combat… I also take pride in my duties as a maid."

Yuuki studied her briefly. "You carry yourself with a lot of maturity."

"I must." Her voice softened, though it didn't waver. "I am the elder sister of our squad."

She glanced slightly to the side.

"Soda and I… we support one another. But our third member…" A faint shadow passed through her expression. "She was last seen in the northern islands. She managed to escape when Soda and I were captured."

The room quieted.

"We once tried to open a maid café," Ade continued, her tone steady despite the weight behind it. "A simple life… honest work. But it failed." A small exhale. "After that, we searched for jobs—anything to survive."

Her hands tightened ever so slightly.

"Two years ago… we were taken. Sold at auction."

A pause.

"To a wealthy client."

No embellishment. No dramatics.

Just truth.

"He was… not kind."

The silence deepened.

"So when you destroyed his submarine…" Ade lifted her gaze again, something resolute shining through the softness, "that was the moment we were freed."

Yuuki didn't speak immediately.

When he did, his voice was firm—grounded.

"You don't have to worry about that anymore, Ade. You're safe here."

Her eyes widened just slightly.

"And about your missing squadmate—Cocoa, right?" he continued. "Tell me everything you know later. If she's out there… we'll find her."

For the first time since she began speaking—

Ade's composure cracked.

Just a little.

"…Yes." She lowered her head again, more deeply this time. "Thank you… Master."

Across the room, even the usual lighthearted expressions had faded into something quieter.

Because this time—

it wasn't just introductions.

It was pieces of lives being entrusted.

"Ah— I am Soda!"

She perked up immediately after Ade, her hands clasped together as she gave an enthusiastic little bow from her seat.

"I am with big sis Ade, a member of Maid For You—the squad of on-call maids serving the citizens of the Ark! I specialize in housekeeping and cleaning, and I always make sure everything is spotless!"

Ade gave a small, knowing smile.

"Soda herself is almost always smiling. Her cheerfulness is as much a service as her work… even if she occasionally makes mistakes."

"Ehehe…" Soda laughed sheepishly, though her smile didn't fade in the slightest.

Yuuki nodded, then spoke decisively.

"Then I'll assign both of you… under Belfast."

A shift in the room.

"Belfast is my personal maid—and the Head Maid of the Royal Maids. With both of you here, I can reinstate her full position. From now on, you'll operate under her guidance."

Belfast stepped forward with flawless poise, placing a hand lightly over her chest as she inclined her head.

"A pleasure to meet you, Lady Ade, Lady Soda. I am Belfast… Master's maid."

"Ah! Please take care of us, Lady Belfast!" Soda beamed.

"We look forward to working under you," Ade added with composed respect.

Yuuki gave a small nod. "I'm counting on you, Bel. Look after them as you would for your royal maids."

"As you wish, Master." Belfast's lips curved into a faint, confident smile. "They will make excellent additions. And… I trust they will greatly assist in maintaining your living quarters."

Yuuki crossed his arms. "Hey—I'm tidy. I've got drones for that."

Belfast's gaze sharpened instantly.

"Master," she said calmly, "there will be no need for drones when we are present."

"…That sounds like a declaration of war."

"With Lady Ade and Lady Soda joining us, the standard of cleanliness shall rise accordingly."

"Cut me some slack, Bel…"

Belfast turned gracefully toward the two new maids.

"Ladies, do join me later once you're properly rested. We shall begin with an important task—correcting our Master's… uncivilized tendencies."

"Hey, I like being a caveman."

"Then we shall refine you," Belfast replied without missing a beat.

Yuuki groaned softly. "I'm starting to regret this already."

Belfast's expression remained perfectly serene.

"Master," she added, almost sweetly, "do compose yourself… before I am forced to report this to Lady Hood upon her return."

A pause.

"…Please don't."

Behind them, a few suppressed chuckles slipped through again—

because in this moment, even amidst war and hardship—

this felt like something close to home.

Laughter lingered in the room, light and genuine—but not everyone found it easy to join.

Rapi remained upright, composed as ever, hands resting neatly on her lap. Discipline held her posture in place even here.

Yuuki noticed.

"Hey," he said, his tone softening slightly. "You don't have to be so stiff around me. I value formality during operations—but outside of that… try to relax a bit, alright?"

Rapi blinked, caught off guard for a moment.

"…Understood. I will… make the adjustment."

"Good."

Yuuki glanced around the room. "After this, we'll get dinner going. It's probably been days since you've had a proper meal."

"That's putting it lightly," Anis groaned. "Aqua food? Ugh. I'm still traumatized."

Neon nodded vigorously. "It lacks both flavor and firepower!"

"Same here," Soda added, her smile dimming just a little. "Leftovers every day isn't exactly ideal…"

Ade gave a small nod. "It was… less than sufficient."

"Then don't worry," Yuuki said. "I'll have drones bring—"

He stopped.

A sudden chill ran down his spine.

"…Ah."

His expression shifted instantly.

"I think I'm going to leave now."

"Commander?" Yorktown narrowed her eyes slightly. Around the room, both shipgirls and Nikkes turned toward him in unison.

"It's—never mind." He exhaled. "Too late."

Two presences closed in behind him.

Warm.

Soft.

Dangerous.

Arms wrapped around him from both sides.

"Shikikan-sama~~~"

A voice, honeyed and possessive, slid into the room as Akagi rested her chin lightly on his shoulder. Her long black hair brushed against him, fox ears twitching slightly as her nine tails swayed behind her—each one radiating quiet menace beneath her affectionate tone.

"Why didn't you tell Akagi you were home?"

On the other side—

"Welcome back, Shikikan-sama."

Kaga's voice was calmer, cooler—but no less intense. Her white hair framed her composed expression, blue eyes sharp as they observed everything. Nine tails moved behind her with controlled elegance.

The room… froze.

The Nikkes stared.

"…Foxes?" Anis whispered.

"…Multiple tails?" Neon added, eyes wide.

Even Rapi's composure faltered slightly.

Akagi's gaze slowly swept across the room, her smile unwavering—but her eyes… not kind.

"I see you've brought more women home," she said sweetly. "Is Akagi not enough for you?" Her tails flicked once. "Shall I remove these pests?"

Kaga tilted her head slightly. "How strong are they?" she asked flatly. "Shall I test them?"

"…Sigh."

Yuuki didn't even look surprised anymore and reached up without hesitation—

—and grabbed both of them by the ears.

"Iyaaa~~~!"

Akagi's composure shattered instantly.

Kaga flinched, her expression cracking just slightly.

"Every time with you two," Yuuki muttered flatly.

The oppressive aura vanished like it had never been there.

He turned slightly, still holding them firmly.

"Sorry about that. These are Akagi and Kaga—First Division Carriers of the Sakura Empire." He gave them a small shake. "Also known as… my two problem foxes."

"Say hello properly."

Akagi straightened—barely.

"Hai… Akagi desu…" she said, though her voice still carried a faint whine.

"Kaga desu…" Kaga added, regaining her composure far quicker.

The Nikke girls exchanged glances before bowing politely.

"…Hello."

For a brief moment—

two very different worlds stood face to face.

And Yuuki, right in the middle of it all, looked like a man questioning every decision that led him here.

"Big brother!!"

A small blur of purple rushed in before anyone could react, followed closely by a more composed figure stepping forward with regal grace.

"Welcome home, Lord Commander." Wales bowed elegantly, her tone refined as always.

"Unicorn—!"

Yuuki barely had time to respond before the smaller girl collided into him. He caught her easily, returning the hug with a rare warmth. "It's good to see you again."

Wales beamed, then her eyes shifted—

"…Avrora?"

"Comrade Wales." Avrora inclined her head politely.

"Big sis Avrora!" Unicorn slipped free from Yuuki and ran straight to her, wrapping her arms around her without hesitation.

"Unicorn…" Avrora's voice softened, returning the embrace just as tightly.

Across the room, the Nikke squad froze.

"…They're… children?" Anis whispered.

"No," Rapi corrected quietly, eyes sharp. "They're combat units."

Neon leaned in, stunned. "And… stronger than us…?"

The realization settled in—deep and unsettling.

Meanwhile—

Yuuki blinked.

"…When did you get there?"

Perched comfortably on his shoulders, Laffey rested her head against his, eyes half-lidded as if she'd always been there.

"…just now…" she mumbled sleepily.

"…You're using my head as a pillow again."

"…comfortable…"

Before he could respond—

"Ah, Herr Kommandant. Welcome home."

Nimi approached with a small, polite nod, her usual composed demeanor intact.

Yuuki exhaled, then clapped his hands lightly once.

"Alright, everyone—listen up."

He gestured between the two groups.

"These five—are my new Nikke units."

Then to the other side—

"And you five—these girls are my shipgirls."

A brief pause.

"Try to get along."

Silence.

Two factions.

Two very different kinds of soldiers.

One room.

Then—

Unicorn, still holding onto Avrora, smiled brightly.

"Everyone can be friends… right?"

It was a simple question.

But it carried more weight than anything said so far.

Behind her, Laffey yawned.

"…friends… are fine…"

Rapi stepped forward slightly, posture still formal—but less rigid than before.

"…We will cooperate," she said. "If that is the Commander's will."

Neon raised the Volt Auto Rifle slightly. "As long as I can study your weapons!"

Anis smirked. "Yeah… guess we're stuck together now."

Wales gave a graceful nod. "Then let us ensure this cooperation is… productive."

Nimi adjusted her stance. "Agreed."

And just like that—

the first bridge between two worlds began to form.

=============

Dinner, as it turned out, was anything but orderly.

What should have been a simple meal quickly devolved into a full-blown contest—shipgirls crowding around, hands flying in rapid succession.

"Rock—paper—scissors!"

"Again!"

"No, that was a redo!"

Yuuki pinched the bridge of his nose. "…You're deciding seating like this?"

"In matters of importance, fairness must be upheld," Nimi said firmly.

"And luck!" San Diego added brightly.

A final round—

"Rock—paper—scissors!"

Silence.

Then—

"I win!" San Diego threw her hands up, laughing without restraint.

Nimi exhaled softly, lowering her hand. "…As expected."

Somehow—

those two ended up as the victors.

Yuuki slumped slightly into his chair. "Sandy might be a kid in a teenager's body… but her luck is completely broken."

San Diego only grinned wider, already claiming her seat beside him.

"Hehe~ Lucky Sandy strikes again!"

Nimi took the other side with far more restraint, though there was a quiet satisfaction in her posture.

Across the table—

The Nikke girls hadn't touched their food yet.

They were staring.

The spread was… excessive.

Warm dishes, freshly prepared. Balanced meals. Real ingredients. Steam rising gently under proper lighting—not ration packs, not scraps, not leftovers salvaged from survival.

Actual food.

"…This is…" Anis muttered, her usual bravado gone.

"…Real," Neon whispered, almost reverently.

Rapi remained still—but her grip on her utensils tightened ever so slightly.

Soda blinked rapidly.

Ade lowered her gaze.

Even Avrora—who had endured far more than most—looked shaken.

"…Is this… normal here?" she asked quietly.

Yuuki didn't answer immediately.

"Eat," he said instead. "No one's taking it from you."

That was all it took.

At first—hesitation.

Small bites.

Careful.

Like they expected it to vanish.

Then—

Something broke.

Anis took a larger bite. Neon followed. Soda's hands moved faster, though she tried to maintain composure. Ade ate neatly—but with urgency she couldn't fully hide.

Rapi… paused.

Then ate.

And didn't stop.

Tears formed quietly.

No one spoke about it.

Not the shipgirls.

Not Yuuki.

Because they understood.

This wasn't just food.

It was safety.

It was stability.

It was something they hadn't had in a long time.

Avrora wiped at her eyes, smiling faintly despite it. "…It's warm…"

Unicorn looked at her, concerned. "Big sis… are you okay?"

"…Yes," Avrora nodded. "I just… forgot what this felt like."

At the head of the table, Yuuki leaned back slightly, watching the scene unfold.

Still chaotic.

Still loud.

San Diego laughing.

Nimi correcting posture.

Akagi eyeing everyone like a hawk.

Neon asking questions mid-bite.

But beneath all of it—

There was something steady.

Something real.

For tonight, at least—

No one was hungry anymore.

When the last plates were cleared, the energy in the room shifted from chaos to quiet coordination.

Drones hummed softly to life, gliding across the kitchen space—collecting dishes, washing, drying with mechanical precision. But they weren't alone.

The shipgirls moved alongside them without hesitation.

Belfast directed the flow with practiced ease. Nimi handled sorting. Even San Diego—though less precise—helped enthusiastically, her laughter echoing as she nearly dropped a tray before catching it at the last second.

Ade and Soda slipped into the rhythm seamlessly.

No instructions needed.

This—this was familiar.

Soda wiped surfaces with almost obsessive dedication, humming softly as she worked. Ade moved with refined efficiency, ensuring everything was placed exactly where it belonged.

For a moment—

It felt less like a war room…

And more like a home.

When everything was finally done in the Health Center cafeteria, the room settled.

Quiet.

Clean.

Warm.

Yuuki turned toward them—his gaze lingering just a moment longer on Avrora… then the Nikke squad.

"Take a few days. You girls just got here."

No one spoke.

"To all of you," he continued. "No missions. No expectations."

A pause.

"Just rest. Starting tomorrow."

His eyes moved across each of them.

All his shipgirls.

Especially the ones joined him on the recovery mission.

"That includes you too," he added gently. "Get some proper rest, alright?"

Silence followed.

But it wasn't empty.

It was… heavy.

Because those words—

simple as they were—

meant something entirely different to them.

Rapi's posture stiffened—then slowly, uncertainly, eased.

"…Understood."

But her voice was quieter than before.

Anis blinked, caught off guard. "…Wait, seriously? No assignments? No drills? It's our first day tomorrow."

"None."

Neon tilted her head. "…We're… allowed to just… rest?"

Yuuki nodded once. "Yes."

Soda's hands clasped together instinctively. "…Without conditions?"

Ade lowered her gaze, her voice softer than it had been all night. "…You're giving us time… freely?"

"Yes. Once you fully rested, you can follow Belfast for your first duties."

That was when it hit.

Not all at once.

But enough.

Avrora's shoulders trembled faintly.

"…We were never given that before, the day we rest is the day siren attacks." she admitted.

Rapi looked away slightly.

"For us… rest usually meant waiting for the next order."

Anis let out a quiet breath. "Or recovering just enough to get thrown back out."

Neon didn't speak.

She just held onto the feeling—like she didn't trust it to last.

Yuuki didn't interrupt.

Didn't explain.

Didn't justify.

Because he knew—

This wasn't something you convince someone of.

It was something they had to experience.

"…Then use it, take a few days to explore the base, get to know everyone..." he said simply.

A long silence followed.

Then—

"…Yes," Ade bowed her head, more deeply than before.

Soda followed immediately. "We will… thank you."

Rapi gave a small nod. "…We'll make use of it."

Avrora smiled—soft, fragile, but real.

"…Thank you… beloved."

Around them, the shipgirls watched quietly.

No teasing.

No interruptions.

=========

Just as the room began to settle into a quiet calm, Yuuki reached into his inventory.

A soft shimmer of light—

—and suddenly, packages began to appear.

One after another.

Carefully wrapped. Neatly arranged.

A small mountain of gifts.

"…What?" Anis blinked.

Yuuki rubbed the back of his neck lightly. "Souvenirs. From Magellan… back in Aqua." He gestured casually. "Yorktown, Enterprise, Atago, Takao, Illustrious, Belfast—we picked them out."

There was a pause.

"—For everyone."

Silence.

Then—

"Shikikan-sama~~"

Akagi was already there—arms wrapped around him from behind as she pressed close, holding a beautifully crafted dress and brooch. "You really do think of Akagi all the time~"

"Yes, yes…" Yuuki sighed, though not resisting.

Nearby, Kaga examined her gift with quiet approval, running her fingers over the fabric. Nimi adjusted hers with precise care, already noting its practicality. Wales held hers with poised elegance, offering a soft nod of appreciation.

Unicorn's eyes sparkled as she hugged hers close.

"Big brother… it's so pretty…"

Laffey simply mumbled a sleepy "…nice…" while holding hers like a pillow.

San Diego immediately spun around. "Woah—this looks amazing! I love it!"

Eldridge stared quietly, clutching hers like something fragile.

Akashi's eyes practically turned into credits. "Nyaa… this material… high quality… very high quality…"

Vestal smiled gently, already appreciating both the beauty and the thought behind it.

And then—

The Nikke girls.

They hesitated.

"These are… for us too?" Anis asked, unusually quiet.

"Yes," Yuuki said simply.

Neon carefully picked hers up, inspecting it like a rare weapon—then immediately froze. "…This craftsmanship…!"

Soda held hers close, eyes wide. "…It's… so clean… so soft…"

Ade ran her fingers along the fabric, her usual composure wavering. "…This is far beyond anything we've ever owned…"

Rapi stood still for a moment.

Then accepted hers.

"…Thank you," she said, her voice low—but sincere.

Avrora looked down at her gift—dress and brooch, elegant, dignified.

Perfectly suited.

"…You even thought of us," she whispered.

Yuuki shrugged slightly. "You're part of the group now."

A beat.

"…So it's only natural."

Anis let out a small laugh, though her eyes were suspiciously glossy. "You're seriously something else, Commander…"

Neon nodded rapidly. "Firepower is great—but this… this is also powerful!"

"Emotional firepower?" Anis muttered.

"Exactly!"

Yuuki chuckled faintly.

"Yeah, well… we spent around fifty thousand credits on all that," he admitted.

A collective pause.

"…Fifty thousand?" Anis repeated.

Akashi nearly fainted.

"Nyaa?! That's a fortune!"

Yuuki waved it off. "It's fine."

Yuuki lifted a hand lazily, already anticipating the reaction.

"Ask those six."

All eyes turned.

Yorktown. Enterprise. Atago. Takao. Illustrious. Belfast.

Standing together—far too composed.

Far too calm.

…and very clearly not innocent.

A subtle shift passed between them.

Then—

Yorktown gave a small, diplomatic smile. "We simply ensured that everyone was included."

Enterprise crossed her arms, expression neutral—but there was the faintest hint of satisfaction in her eyes. "It was… efficient."

"Atago~" tilted her head, a soft laugh slipping out. "Ara, we may have gotten a little carried away~"

Takao closed her eyes briefly. "…It was necessary."

Illustrious lifted her hand delicately to her cheek. "One cannot neglect the morale of dear companions, after all."

And Belfast—

Belfast simply smiled.

Perfect.

Unshakable.

Dangerous.

"We deemed it appropriate, Master."

===========

Meanwhile—

Akagi's gaze flickered between them.

A slow smile forming.

"…My, my… how thoughtful."

Kaga's ears twitched slightly. "…Suspicious."

Yuuki just shrugged. "They handled it. I didn't mind."

Which was true.

What wasn't mentioned—

Was how those six had quietly prioritized certain selections.

How some gifts had just a bit more care.

A bit more detail.

A bit more… intention.

And how, for one brief moment— for one day...

They had indulged themselves as his "favorites."

Unspoken.

Unacknowledged.

And very deliberately—

Hidden.

Belfast's eyes flickered for just a fraction of a second toward the others in her group.

A silent agreement.

No one needed to know.

And just like that—

The secret remained intact.

For now.

==========

By the time the corridors quieted, it was already nearing midnight.

Doors slid shut one after another, but not before soft excitement slipped through—fabric rustling, quiet laughter, hushed voices admiring details.

Despite having access to clothing generators, this was different.

These were real.

Chosen. Gifted. Owned.

Something tangible.

Something theirs.

Yuuki guided Avrora and the Nikke squad to the MCV quarters.

The doors opened—

—and they stopped.

The rooms were vast.

Not just spacious—expansive. Easily four times the size of standard accommodations, with layered sections for rest, training, and personal space. Clean lines. Soft lighting. Warm tones.

"…This is temporary?" Anis muttered.

"Yes," Yuuki nodded. "Once the Citadel is complete, your personal quarters will be even larger. Think… apartment scale."

Silence.

Then—

Neon slowly turned in place, absorbing everything. "…This alone is already overwhelming…"

Yuuki gestured lightly. "There's also a clothing generator in each room. You can design your own outfits—within reason. Nothing overly revealing."

That clicked instantly.

"…So that's how they do it," Rapi said quietly, recalling the shipgirls' distinct uniforms.

"Exactly."

There was a pause.

Then—

"Thank you, Commander…" Rapi spoke first.

"For the gifts… the room… the food…" Neon added.

Anis let out a slow breath. "…I'm starting to think we died somewhere back there and this is just heaven."

Ade lowered her gaze. "…We don't feel like we deserve this."

Soda stepped forward slightly, her usual smile wavering for once.

"…Master… you won't throw us away, right?"

Yuuki didn't hesitate.

"No."

His voice was steady.

"You're as valuable as any of my shipgirls—like Avrora." He looked at each of them in turn. "Don't think of yourselves as anything less."

The tension in the room eased.

Not completely.

But enough.

"…Okay," Rapi nodded.

"Get some rest," Yuuki said. "Breakfast—or lunch. Your choice."

One by one, they entered their rooms—still glancing around like they expected it all to vanish.

It didn't.

As Yuuki turned to leave—

He paused.

Six figures waited near the entrance.

Yorktown. Enterprise. Takao. Atago. Illustrious. Belfast.

"…You're still awake?"

Yorktown smiled faintly. "We noticed something."

"You didn't receive anything tonight."

Yuuki blinked. "I was the one buying, remember?"

Belfast stepped forward slightly. "That is precisely why."

"This," Illustrious added gently, "is from us."

Before he could react—

Yorktown leaned in first.

A soft kiss on his cheek.

"Thank you… Commander."

Enterprise followed—hesitant, her composure cracking just enough as she brushed his cheek.

"…Thank you."

Atago's turn came with a playful warmth. "Ara~ consider this our gratitude, Shikikan-sama~"

Takao followed, far more restrained—but unmistakably flustered.

"…Arigatou…" she murmured, cheeks faintly red.

Illustrious placed hers with elegant grace. "Thank you, Lord Commander."

And finally—

Belfast.

Precise.

Gentle.

"Thank you, Master. For letting us be your favorites."

Yuuki froze where he stood, face flushing as the sequence ended.

"…It was just one day," he muttered. "I can't play that here."

"Perhaps," Yorktown said softly, her smile lingering. "But it mattered to us."

She turned, the others following her lead.

"…Good night, Commander."

And just like that—

They were gone.

Leaving him alone in the quiet corridor.

Yuuki stood there for a moment longer, hand brushing lightly against his cheek.

Then—

He smiled.

"…I really am getting attached."
